TOPIC: Global warming.
ORGANIZATIONAL PATTERN: topical
PURPOSE: With want I have learnt from my class and researched on the internet I want to inform my audiences about the causes and effects of global warming
PRIMARY AUDIENCE OUTCOME (I want my audience to…): acknowledge about global warming, it is really happening and human plays an important part in this issue.
THESIS STATEMENT (A single declarative statement that captures the essence/theme of the speech): Global warming is happening because of anthropogenic activities in the past, and it has a lot of impact in human life.
ATTENTION GETTER: Do you know that 2015 is the hottest year on record since 1880. And 99% that it will be surpassed by 2016. What would you think if I said that nine out of ten warmest years have occurred in the last 14 years. Five years warmest are 2015,2014,2010,2005 and 2004. What those problems come from? The answer lies in global warming.
PURPOSE (state specific purpose, relate topic to audience and establish credibility): What is happening with the Earth will affect all of us (unless you have another house on Mars). So my speech today will address one of the problem that are threating our life it is global warming.
STATE THESIS & MAIN POINTS:
There are many factors which include human activities have been proved to cause global warming and on the other hand the increase in Earth’s temperature affect human significantly ,many observed disaster are the consequence of global warming.
3-5 MAIN POINTS PREFERRED USE ONLY COMPLETE SENTENCES
I. MAIN POINT (state as a single declarative sentence): Before we start we need to know what is global warming
A. Global warming is a term used for the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system and its related effect.
1. Scientists are more than 90% certain that most global warming is caused by increasing concentration of greenhouse gasses and other human caused activities.
B. Greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun’s warmth in a planet’s lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet’s surface.
1. Greenhouse gasses are those that absorb and emit infrared radiation in the wavelength range emitted by the Earth.
The most abundant greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere are: Water vapor (H2O), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (NH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), and Ozone (O3).
2. You can imagine greenhouse effect is like what happen in a greenhouse when the light goes through the glass, then is kept by the glass, it cannot get out by the glass, so that rise the temperature inside greenhouse.
Connective: when you all have the basic concept we will move to the next part which is causes of global warming.
II. Global warming is primarily problem of too much CO2 in the atmosphere which acts like a blanket, trapping heat and warming the planet.
A. One of the things scientist have learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for global warming, human emit them in a variety of ways.
1.The gas is responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide, other contributors Methane, Nitrous oxide, and Chlorofluorocarbons.
2. Different gases have very different heat-trapping ability, some of them can trap more than CO2.
a. One molecule of CH4 produces more than 20 times warming of a molecule of CO2.
b. Nitrous is 300 times powerful than CO2.
B. The sources of greenhouse gases both from anthropogenic and natural activities.
1. Human are the main source of greenhouse gases.
a.CH4 released form landfill and agriculture (especially from digestive system of grazing animals).
b. N20 from fertilizers, CFCS from refrigerators and industrial processes, combustion of fossil fuels in cars, factories, electricity production release CO2 and the loss of forests that would otherwise store it.
Connective: There are still skeptical about the causes that rise the Earth temperature and the role of human in global warming, still there are many observed disasters that affect human life a great deal is the consequence of global warming.
III. Global warming is already having significant and harmful effect on our communities, our health and climate.
A. Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts
1. A warmer climate creates an atmosphere that can collect, retain, and drop more water, changing weather patterns in such a way that wet areas become wetter and dry areas drier.
B. The polar regions are particularly vulnerable to a warming atmosphere, average temperatures in the Arctic are rising twice as fast as they are elsewhere on earth, and the world's ice sheets are melting fast.
1. This not only has grave consequences for the region's people, wildlife, and plants; its most serious impact may be on rising sea levels.
a. By 2100, it's estimated our oceans will be
http://nca2014.globalchange.gov/highlights/report-findings/future-climateone to four feet higher, threatening coastal systems and low-lying areas, including entire island nations and the world's largest cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Miami as well as Mumbai, Sydney, and Rio de Janeiro.
C. The effects of global warming on the Earth's ecosystems are expected to be profound and widespread.
1.Many species of plants and animals are already moving their range northward or to higher altitudes as a result of warming temperatures.
RESTATE THESIS & REVIEW MAIN POINT: Global warming is a complicated problem that need more scientific researches on the causes and the effects of global warming, however based on what we have already known, it could be said that humans are definitely a part of the problem.
CONCLUDING PURPOSE (restate specific purpose, reinforce relevance of topic to audience): Earth is our home, so its life is our life. For that reason it is essential for us to comprehend what are causing our planet to become warmer and the consequence of that warming.
CLOSURE/CLINCHER (end with a bang, not a whimper): Now we have known the fact of global warming, and knowledge is a power. The more we know about it the easier we can find the answer and solution.
