Hello my name is Kiara Parrott I am a senior at Etowah high school. I recently moved to Woodstock from Powder Springs back in September, moving my senior was not easy for me. I am the oldest of 3, I have 2 little brothers one in which is six and in Kindergarten and the other one is twelve and in sixth grade. With me being the oldest and my mom having me at a young age I had a lot of growing up to do. Also with me being the oldest everyone in my family as well as family friends have always called on me to watch their kids. Ever since I was little I always loved being around children and helping others around me.
The area that I decided to research is Early childhood education. I have learned through my research that being a teacher is not as easy as it seems. However I am always opened in learning new things. I am willing to come out of my comfort zone to help these upcoming children. After I graduate I will be enrolling at Chattahoochee Technical college over the summer for my core classes that I will be taking in the fall. Then I will transfer to Kennesaw State University after the two years at chat tech to receive my bachelor's degree.
Although working with the children and their different personalities was a challenge I would not change anything. Some of the children I dealt with had a mind of their own and they were not interested in learning the different bible verses we read as a group. However, no child is the same and everyone is different. Some of the children are more visual learners and others are more verbal learners.
Over the past 3 months, I have been volunteering at Woodstock City Church as a crewmember in their childcare center known as Waumba Land from ages two to age four. Although I was not able to take any pictures with the children for liability reasons I was able to make some amazing connections with the little children. During this time period I watched some of the children develop a little bit more and began to open up. During the times that I have volunteered I have dealt with the horrible cries from the children, the diaper changes, even the throw up. Some people make their job fun by having games and other fun things so the children can interact. Then there is others that would rather sit and read to the children, there is nothing bad about that but there is no two year old that will sit still and listen. However me volunteering in Waumba land has opened me up to seeing how the daily life of a educator may be
Finally, I am so happy to see what the teaching industry has to offer. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to view my presentation and view my product. Thank you once again.
