My name is Keshawn Smith, an 18-year-old student who loves sports and always dream of being like my favorite sport broadcaster Stephen A. Smith. My goals in life is all in one and that is to be an inspiration to other kids who might not believe they can achieve their goals. Since a little kid, I always had interest in sports because that’s all my family talked about. I was named after a NFL football player named Keyshawn Johnson who was playing for the Jets the day I was born. My senior project is sport broadcasting and the reason I chose this to be my project is because that’s what I want to major in college as I look to pursue this as my career in life.
When I started my senior project back in fall I researched some interesting things about broadcasting in general. I learned that broadcasters are constantly traveling everywhere and sometimes even out of states. Also, broadcasting is timed consuming as many of the broadcaster’s film at 5 o’clock in the morning to 12 o’clock midnight. I learned that journalists have a big part in what broadcasters say on television. Journalists are the ones who discover the stories to give it to the producer of the broadcast as they revised the story and then give it to the people who controls the teleprompt for the broadcasters to read off.
Researching broadcasting really gave me some knowledge and it helped me put together my product. My research paper gave me some quality help when it came to my product, but it couldn’t put my fear away from talking in front of the camera. It was difficult reading off the teleprompt as I had to have a nice pace between my words so that I wouldn’t be rushing through it making it harder for people to understand me. As much important it was to have a nice pace you also had to have a timing pause between words, so that the listeners could have interest in what you’re saying. In the beginning of my product I had some strugglers in talking in front of the camera and having a nice pace between the words as well as having a timing pause so that people could have interest in the story, but now I have become much more confident as my project facilitator helped me out through all my strugglers.
My topic and research paper directly relate to my interests in becoming a sport broadcaster. I have always had an interest in talking about sports professionally. My personal interest has given me the drive to research about broadcasting and journalism. After high school, I hope to further my knowledge on broadcasting by going to college in majoring in communication and broadcasting. I’ve learned through this process that to be able to become a sport broadcaster you must know more than just about sports and by watching myself improve on the things I learned from this senior project I’m really excited of what my future holds.
Through all my struggles in completing the senior project it’s been helpful for me. The senior project has given me a lot of tips of the career I’m pursuing. Thank you for your time!
