Makeup on different skin types
Kelsi Painter – Senior Project
My project is on the different types of skin.
The four types of skin I focused on were oily, dry, combination, and troubled (acne)
With each skin type comes with proper skin care and appropriate makeup depending on how oily, dry, or troubled their skin is. For my product, I decided to do makeovers on four girls that I worked with using the proper products suited for each type of skin they had.
In my research paper I focused on the history of makeup, the different ways cultures use makeup, skin care, and how your internal health shows through your skin.
I learned that the Egyptians used charcoal to keep the sun out of their eyes by putting it around them. They also used scented oils to clean, and soften their skin, and were the first ones who had the idea of contour and highlight. They used razors, tweezers, and other tools to maintain their appearance.
Most of the cultures used makeup to represent beauty and wealth.
Skin care for the types of skin is different because they require unalike products. For example, the drier skin types would use a more heavy moisturizer like coco-butter. Jojoba oil would be good for all skin types because it replicates the skin's own natural oils.
Internal health can also help skin appearance. For example, honey is a natural protective antioxidant for the skin, wine could sooth lines and irritated skin (if directly applied), and eating yogurt and papaya can help create softer skin.
My research paper relates to my product because I'm focusing on the skin care, and the makeup appropriate for the skin types. The research paper gave me an overview of some of the things I needed to know and understand.
My facilitator is Donna Rowe, and she is a professional Beauty Advisor at the Clinique station in Belk.
She has an education in merchandising and went to many modeling schools, such as Barbizon School. She also stays up to date with the latest trends in the fashion industry with her current training with Clinique.
Donna was a huge help and a great leader while I was completing my Senior Project. She gave me many tips, and also provided me with samples to use so that I saved money. She put me on the right track for my project, and showed me proper skin care for the different types of skin.
I did the girls makeup the first time with the foundation they used everyday. Then, I logged my results in their individual packet so that I could compare the final results.
I met with my facilitator to discuss the products appropriate for the skin type I focused on, and logged it in the packet.
I did the makeup on the girls again with the products I picked out based on the new information I knew.

Final Acne Makeup
Final Dry Makeup
Final Oily Makeup
Final Combination Makeup
My product is the finished makeup on the different skin types, and all the products I used that was appropriate for them, as well as my log/research packets I made for each girl.
This project was a learning stretch, because I wasn't aware of all the different things about the skin. They are very unalike and need separate care. I never knew how to care for, or apply makeup to any other skin type except my own.
I wanted to go to school for cosmetology, so I thought that doing this project topic would be a good start in that career.
I learned how to do the appropriate makeup for the various skin types.
When doing this project I learned how to manage my time, work with other people's schedule, and how to do makeup with more knowledge.
The main obstacles I dealt with was getting in touch with my facilitator for a short period of time, as well as finding the products I thought would work best for the different skin types. Minor obstacles I faced were working with the girls' schedules and getting their makeup done.
I learned that makeup is not what I want to do as a career, but I still love it enough to do makeup for other people if it is needed.
Since cosmetology wasn't the right path for me, I've decided that I want to further my education in college and major in Early Childhood Education, and minor in business.
I am happy I did this project, because it gave me a preview into the cosmetology world and made me realize that it's not something I would like to further myself with.
