Dear Human Rescources,
Please find enclosed a a copy of a self cert sick note for work related stress against Diamond buses atherton. On November 2015 during a meeting with Mark the Manger at Diamond Buses Atherton, I brought to his attention the following issues that your office staff are creating:
On several occasions the office staff have changed the rotas without prior warning to staff
On several occasions I have turned up for work to find they have changed my shift by a few hours for which I have had to go home and come back to work (unnecessary travel expenses)
I discussed at length with mark when I was offered the job, the shifts were explained to me as 1 in 4 Saturdays to work and 1 in 6 Sundays to work. Since starting I am lucky if I get one in 4 sat off and the same with Sundays. His reply to this was you are short staffed and that the old staff that he took on with the company have old contracts of no weekends and no late nights for which Diamond (Rotola) has to honour. I informed him this is breaking Equality & Diversity laws and that you can give them 90 days’ notice to change their existing contracts, you said you was looking into that.
I explained to him I am a carer for my sick father who is terminally ill and I need to be able to create a work life balance. He said he was looking at the rotas and things were going to change
I explained even if I get a Saturday off I may be in the Sunday so I cannot have a social life that may include alcohol one again affecting “work life balance”
I had discussed with Mark about filling in a flexible working contract which I am entitled to do so as a carer for a terminally ill parent (as advised by my Unite the Union). He assured me it will not come to this and that the rotas are going to be reviewed and dealt with, equally so all drivers regardless of how many yrs. service will do a share of late night, weekends and early shifts.
At Christmas I wrote down my rota I had already worked my 5 full day’s including bank holiday Monday. Once again the office staff had changed the rota insisting I was to work the Saturday 2nd Jan 2016 too. On Mon 4th Jan 2016 Mark addressed with me why I didn’t work that Saturday 2nd as instructed by the office staff. I pointed out to him that this would bring me to having worked 6 days in one week. (Overtime is not compulsory) and Mark agreed I was in the right and the office staff was yet again wrong in changing the rotas without asking.
Sat 9th Jan 2016 after checking the rota and writing it down my shift was 6.59 am until 4pm. I arrived at work the office staff had “yet again” changed the rotas (which I had checked twice on the Saturday and the Monday Prior) and they were expecting me to go home and come back 2 hrs later and work a later finish. Clearly someone else whose face fits more in the office had been given my shift.
A copy of this letter has been sent to Mark the manager at Diamond buses atherton, these issues should come as surprise to him, as since working there to my knowledge at least 15 drivers have left due to the office staffs medalling with the rotas to adapt them to suit drivers who have yrs. of service against new drivers. When each staff member’s calls an interview with Mark like myself and I can name a few, he claim’s it’s the first he has heard about it and that no one else has ever complained, followed by he will sort it,and then just brushes the problems under the carpet.
He is reponsible for letting the office staff run that business into the ground. There is no work life balance which is breaking the Flexible Working Regulations Act 2014. It’s also breaking Equality and Diversity in the workplace regulations. As favouritism of staff not doing weekends and late nights is an ongoing issue brought to Mark by many colleagues. To make a point Diamoind as a company even threw a staff party yet half the colleagues couldn’t go as they were working late nights or on duty the next day so couldn’t drink. This creates low morale and conflict of interest between colleagues, which is not good for business.
A copy of my sick note is enclosed which Mark has been sent the origonal, along with a copy of this letter addressed to him, stating I will notify him when I am fit for return as I am suffering from “work related stress” caused by diamond busses. I feel at this point it is a matter HR should be addressing with Mark to adress what the hell his office staff are playing at before the business goes bust
