Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s Psalm of Life exemplifies Life Goals
Tell me not in mournful numbers Life is but an empty Dream, For the Soul is dead that slumbers and things are not what they seem… Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; Dust thou art to Dust returnest, was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment and not sorrow’s, Is our destined end or way; But to act, that each to-morrow Find us farther than today. Art is long and Time is fleeting; and our hearts, though stout and brave, still like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave. In the world’s broad field of battle; in the bivouac of Life, Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife! Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant! Let the dead Past bury its dead! Act, act in the living Present! Heart within, and God o’verhead! Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime and departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time; Footprints, that perhaps another, Sailing o’er life’s solemn main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again. Let us then be up and doing, with a heart for any fate; still achieving, still pursuing, learn to labor and to wait.
One must decide to embrace a plan of action; and receive this assignment to complete any Goal. I choose God’s plan (ways) for achieving this Goal: Ministry, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you and expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11. He who called you will also do it” and The Just shall live by Faith, obeying God’s principle of operation as demonstrated throughout the Bible, for His people. For without Faith it is impossible to please God, Hebrews 11 reveals this truth. I intend to please God by doing things His Way as He directs by His Holy Spirit and the Word.
A successful life is a Believer knowing and attaining God’s goal for life, becoming what God made you to become. Alignment with His Will finds Purpose , Meaning and Destiny doing what God wants you to do. To uncover this information requires an intimate relationship with God.
The true definition of success, according to Mike Murdock, Inspirational Wisdom Writer, is to learn the principles that govern the Divine manifestation of Success, which is in God’s Word.
Leaders in corporate areas of interest e.g. the ability to inspire people, through communication, articulation, demonstration, creating a continuous desire for learning. One who welcomes knowledge and wisdom, experience, education, collaboration and mentoring; (utilizing life experiences, education, set backs, failures, challenges and achievement.) are instructional mentors. Leadership is more often acquired through multiple sources of Life disciplines. All things are for our Learning, yet we better seek the right learning for the best growth and contribution to the whole, for we are only part of it.
Alignment and Goals with God given gifts, talents and potential is meant to be a part of vocation – a calling. Discovering one’s purpose and personally unique design will assist in recognizing strengths & weaknesses is meant to be a part of vocation yet may lead one to an occupation. This requires discovering personal passion. Passion can lead one to Assignment. What is my passion, what I love to do can then be a vocation and occupation? For example, if one’s interest is to become a Leader; then it would behoove one to study those Leaders who inspire me, or at best makes me want to be a better person. I could chose 5 leaders I respect and review their lives, legacy and works.
What are the elements of the Goal of Leadership> Focus, Specialization, dedication, relevance, inspiration, motivation, building relationships, imparting wisdom, giving purpose and meaning to life, adding to an audience of faithful followers.
In this process fulfilling individual potential leading to understanding in six basic areas of success (goals):
As with any concentrated area of application or Focus, it can lead to specialism, so it is that overemphasis in one area often can cause another to be out of sync, imbalanced or deteriorate.
Success is the progressive achievement of a God given inward potential and awareness of unique personhood, or purpose and meaning =happiness.
Set goals for your life but never exclude God from them. (Says Mike Murdock in his book on success). God is the Director and direction to create balanced and reasonable goals. One must focus on opportunity not obstacles. Envision possibility as opposed to probability. Take Risks and pursue people of quality to encourage you. The power of relationships is a beneficial influence or a waste of time, you choose. Choose your companions wisely for they will rub off on you.
Heaven and earth intersect in your mind. Both spheres tug to influence you and affect a taste for Heaven or Hell. Check out God’s government, the best example of Servant Leadership is and was in Jesus Christ (Sacrificial, Accessible, Informative and Serving). To encourage growth in all areas previously mentioned as 6 areas of success for all, Relationships, people are more important, and then tasks leading to solutions to serve God’s purpose for Man by Successful Living as family and as a whole, community.
These are some of the ideas I have collected over my, thus far, life experience and collaboration with the influencers of my Life, those who have called me to come up higher.
