Personal Relationship with Jesus
Please provide a brief spiritual history, including how you came to have a saving relationship with the Lord, and where you feel that you are with Him now:
I became a Christian at age 8 when a Sunday School teacher led me to Christ. I struggled with sanctification growing up because I did not have any real shepherding experiences until I got to college. I attended a Christian College. It was while I was in college that I felt a strong conviction to renew my commitment to the Holy Spirit and to really stand up for what I believed. Through various trials as an adult , I have had a strengthening of my relationship with Christ. I know I can not make it through this world without the daily guidance and convictions of the Holy Spirit.
Please describe your devotional life: I daily read something and pray. Some days I read an email from various devotional sources such as Devotionals Daily or Loop. Other days, depending on the time available, I will read from a Christian book writer or the Bible.
He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand. (Psalm 78:70---72) Making disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ is what Community Bible Study does and shepherding through in---depth Bible study is how we do it. The following questions serve to help each leader anticipate the working out of his/her call to shepherd anyone who desires to study the Bible through CBS.
How has God called you to this ministry of shepherding and making disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ?
I struggled for many years wondering what my purpose in life was. I had accomplished all of my worldly dreams and goals, such as a doctorate degree, marriage, and family, but I still felt like I was wandering looking for something of purpose. Once I found CBS and the joy that I was given leading others to grow deeper in Christ, I knew he had called me to a further commitment to that purpose.
What would be your attitude toward class members who have been divorced/remarried, are engaged in a sexual relationship outside of traditional marriage, or are transgender?
We are all sinners saved by grace. I am not here to judge or convict anyone. As long as the class is focused on the CBS materials, I think is it good to have all types of people in class to hear the truth of the gospel. If I am approached about a topic outside of class, I would lovingly refer that person to the Bible and to ask them to pray to God for his opinion to be made clear to them.
Are you comfortable serving in a ministry that takes a neutral position regarding the sign gifts of the Holy
Spirit? (e.g. tongues, prophecy, etc.) Yes
In a situation where someone did not believe doctrinally the same as you on a non---salvation issue, would you think it important to convince them that they are in error?
No. I would pray that God would bring clarity to either one of us as to how He would want us to believe.
