Senior Capstone Career Project - Product Work Log
Name: Josie MacAulay
Product: Lesson Plan
Date, Time, & Location:
January 5, 2017
4:00- 5:00 pm
I met with my senior facilitator, and we discussed my research paper and my plans for my product.
When discussing my product for my lesson plan took a while. We decided that my idea to do a lesson plan would work. My mentor liked my research paper and wants me to incorporate learning techniques into my lesson plan. The struggle with my lesson plan is that I will be teaching in a resource classroom, so my lesson plan might be a struggle. My facilitator is easy to talk to, so I am glad that we get along. I am looking forward to working with her students.
Total Time Thus Far:
January 19, 2017
I met with my senior facilitator at Knox Elementary, and I sat and observed her class.
I observed my facilitator teaching her classroom to see what it would be like in an elementary school class. My facilitator teaches a resource class. I think working and teaching in a resource class will challenge me. My facilitator has to focus her attention on the whole class while also giving individual students attention. There were few students in the class. She said that different students come during different times, and she also teaches different grades throughout the day. Some students have behavioral issues, and I think that will challenge me as well.
February 5, 2017
I researched lesson plan templates and examples.
While researching lesson plan templates and ideas, I felt over whelmed. There are many websites and guides online to help. There are also many formats and set ups for lesson plans. I am not sure what my goal for my lesson plan is, I definitely need to meet with my mentor and look at some of her lesson plans for guidance.

Senior mentor’s home
I met with my senior mentor at her house to discuss my project.
I went to my senior mentor’s house to talk about my product. We previously agreed that I could make a lesson plan for my product. My facilitator talked to me about teaching and what its like to teach in front of a classroom. She also mentioned that I would have to have patients with the younger kids. She walked me through her schedule for the day. She teaches different grade levels through out the day and can have a combination of different grades in her classroom at one time. I am concerned that teaching different grade levels and making a lesson plan for different grade levels will be difficult. She talked to me about the different units I can make a lesson plan for. We also went through some of her lesson plans and she showed me her process with making them. The lesson plans are thorough and are long. We will meet again after February break and she will give me a unit for my lesson plan. After I get my assigned unit I will need to read up on the curriculum for my lesson plan.

I met with my senior mentor after school at Knox.
Today I went to Knox after school to work with my mentor. We finally sat down and looked at Mrs. Hagadone’s schedule to determine when I would be able to teach and what group of kids I would teach. After looking at her schedule we decided that I would teach her second grade language arts kiddos. I would teach her students from 12- 1:30. During this time Ms. Hagadone has a crossover in her schedule and she has second grade language arts resource students and second grade math resource students in her classroom at the same time. It is difficult for Ms. Hagadone to divide her time between the two groups, so she assigned me one set of students. After we decided which students I would teach, Ms. Hagadone help set up a smaller lesson plan and helped guide me to start my lesson plan.

I worked on my lesson plan.
After After Ms. Hagadone help start my lesson plan, I went home and finished filling in the activities. We previously agreed that I could do a book based lesson plan. So I found a book online and found things that I could incorporate into a lesson plan. My lesson plan template that Ms. Hagadone helped set up for me is a five-day lesson plan. My lesson plan includes activating activity, whole group, independent, standard and strategies. I was able to fill in activating activity, whole group, and independent on my own. Ms. Hagadone will help me fill in the standards and strategies.

I met with Ms. Hagadone to go over my lesson plan.
Ms. Hagadone helped to critique what I put in my lesson plan. She also helped to add the standards and strategies into it as well. After reviewing the lesson plan, I was able to make copies of materials I will need for my lesson plan. Part of my five-day lesson plan is the students will create a rough draft, final copy, and a bug. Since I will not be able to miss five days of school, Ms. Hagadone and I have agreed on me teaching a “mini lesson.” In my mini lesson, I crammed all five days of the lesson plan into one day, to the best of my ability. Ms. Hagadone and I then agreed that I could come in and teach her students the Friday before spring break. I will be teaching four second grade language arts students.

I taught my lesson plan.
Today I met my facilitator at Knox around 11:30. Today was the day I was going to teach. I arrived thirty minutes early so that I could set up and prepare for the students. We also went over my lesson plan again and my plans for the day. We then read through the original book I picked out, but decided it was not going to work for the lesson plan. The original book, How Rude! has humor and is somewhat inappropriate for a second grade resource classroom. The book’s contents are not inappropriate by mentioning adult content; the book mentions poop and buggers and we agreed that it may not be a good idea to read the book. Instead I went to Knox’s library and checked out a book on bugs and read that one instead. I started teaching at twelve, and the students stayed in the classroom longer to play a game that was in my lesson plan. At the end of the day, Ms. Hagadone and I went over my progressed and discussed what I could do when I presented to the judges. I also stayed behind to help clean up the classroom.

I worked on my Senior Project presentation.
I compiled a PowerPoint to use when I present my senior project. In the PowerPoint I included many pictures of the students. I also included information on my research paper. After I finished the PowerPoint, I made my pictorial log for the judges and my teacher. I then did a practice presentation to my sister. My practice presentation was sixteen minutes long, which is way too long. I am going to have to not go as far in depth as I did with my sister when I present to the judges in order to cut down my time. I also am considering compiling a book for each of the judges with my lesson plan as well as a blank rough draft and final draft sheet. I would also like to include the bug parts, however I have pictures of all of this on my PowerPoint, so I am not sure if it is necessary.

I uploaded all my work to OneNote and docs.
I uploaded all of my Senior Project items to OneNote. I had to print all the documents, take pictures of them, and then upload them to OneNote. I then upload all of my work material to docs. I once again had to take pictures of documents and upload documents. After finishing uploading to docs, I completed my Sway.
