Judges, Senior Project
Cherokee High School

My name is Joshua Tate Smith, but I go by my middle name Tate. My goals are to go to college after high school, and figure what I want to do in the future. For my senior project I chose to landscape my house. It was bigger project than expected so I chose to show you phase 1 of my project, which was the front of the house.
For my research paper I chose landscaping. I focused mainly on the install phase of landscaping. I learned that landscaping is not just going and putting plants in the ground. You have to start by designing the job, then you have to talk about how expensive it will be to install what you want. Then the last part is the install phase. Landscaping was not as easy as I thought it would be.
My product was landscaping my house. Much like my research paper, we had a layout design of the house. What we wanted to plant and where we wanted. Then we priced it. Most of the plants we got were free, but we still went through the pricing phase. Then we reached the install phase and began planting. The hardest obstacle was really just getting out and doing the project. Hard work pays off and now, I have a beautiful landscaped house.
The landscaping and phases of landscaping are leading towards a career as a landscape architect. I learned that I am pretty good at putting plants in the ground and that I can do a nice job at designing the landscape. I do not think I will be pursuing this career in the future. Mainly because it is just a long, boring process. Even though I was really good at most of the phases, I do not see this being my career.
The senior project was a fun learning experience. Learning how to do something that I will need to do in the future was very neat. Once again thank you for taking the time to listen to my project.
