Judges, Senior Project

My name Is Joseph McRae and I am a hopeful graduate of Cherokee High School soon after the reading of this letter. I am an 18-year-old who is very interested in the ever-growing business of entertainment, specifically music. My goal not only for the senior project, but also rather for my life outside of my education is to produce music for myself and others that want to do the same as me. For my senior project, I chose the very common, semi-difficult, and probably repetitive for judges to view, task of learning the guitar.
The topic I chose for my research paper was the effects music has in mental health. My main ideas were about how these music effects affected autism, depression, down syndrome, and the thought that music can help with ones intelligence. While I was writing on this topic, I was surprised that this widely loved past time was doing more than the surface appears. People with mental disability have found comfort in some of their favorite music. It was proven to increase their attention to their work, thus becoming more productive. With a mental illness such as a depression, music lets one feel less alone. It can improve one's mood and their overall outlook on themselves while listening to their preferred jam. Music has so much more to offer society than just a good song to listen to every now and then. Through research, I have found different ways it can do such.
The product for my project is a collection of songs burned onto a classic CD. I feel my product relates to my research by the direct connection of music. The type of music I had wanted to learn was the music I generally would listen to when I would be feeling down. By creating music such as I have, I hope I can have the same influence the musicians I listen to had on me. I had some complications during the process of my project. The worst was when my guitar strings had been stripped, or rather just snapped. This was very hard and I had to search around for my own guitar I could be comfortable using. Eventually I borrowed from an acquaintance of mine and began again on my journey to learn the guitar.
Although I pursued learning am instrument, my interest is rather in the technological aspect of music. I think learning guitar might help me make sound judgment and increase my skills in keys and notes of music. My preferred career in the music scene would to be a sound engineer or producer. Many known music producers use live instruments in their music. The raw sound you get from a live instrument cannot be compared to that of a virtual sound. I hope to be able to go to a studio and play the live instruments they have there one day. I would love to create masterpieces for people to admire with awe. I enjoy doing what I am currently with music production and only hope to continue to grow in the field.
In only a few words, I would describe the senior project as a tasteful time. It is a sample of something you may want to bite your teeth into later down the road. I would now like to thank you for reading my letter and taking the time to look over my project.
