Plan to arrive around 5:30 pm in order to setup before the families start coming in at 6:00 pm and plan to stay until 7:00 when volunteers for the evening fellowship arrive.
The church requires two members to be present at all times, so it is important for volunteers to sign in and stay until the next shift arrives.
Some families may come in later. When that is the case we leave their food in the refrigerator in take-out boxes. Some of the families also pack lunches for the next day, so you can leave any leftovers in the fridge using the styrofoam take-out containers for storage.
The Family Promise gathering room is located downstairs near the elevators. A sign should be outside near the Warehouse entrance. The gathering room has a semi-kitchen with a counter, sink, microwave, and a refrigerator. There are tables where the families eat, and there's one table against the wall from which we serve the food.
You do not need to bring plates, cutlery or napkins. Those things are there. Whatever you choose to bring for drinks will be fine - tea and lemonade are the staples. In addition, there are plenty of serving utensils and the families will serve themselves. However, we do encourage volunteers to sit and eat or interact with the families.
