Learning is made more tangible and real. Students are empowered by discovering that they are able to change in the world around them. They become more engaged and passionate about learning because they can see the direct results.
Students plant a community garden and need to calculate the area to make the composter the correct size.
Giving students a mathematical word problem to solve based on the invented idea of a community garden…something that will not come to fruition.
