EVIDENCE OF EXPLORING WORK ORGANISATIONS AND PERSONAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PARTICULAR VOCATIONAL AREA, TO INCLUDE CONSIDERATION OF WORK-RELATED ISSUES AND NEEDS.
In this section you will explore the different employment opportunities within the Industry. Work can be gained in the following areas:
Retail Flower Shop, Wholesale Sector, The Flower Markets, Demonstrating, Teaching, Wedding Florist, Working in a Hotel as an in-house florist, working in an undertakers as an in-house florist, working in a Factory producing flowers for the Retail Industry, Freelance Florist etc.

Identify at least 3 personal, practical and interpersonal skills that you think could relate to floristry. For each skill grade yourself as to whether they are excellent good or fair. Care of Cut Flowers and Foliage
Sorted six boxes of assorted flowers and foliage, visually inspected and conditioned – organised stock rotation in storage area. Will work on understanding different stem structures and how temperature etc affects different flowers/foliage and proper storage to maximise life of the flowers.
Knowledge of seasonal flowers and exotic flowers
From gardening, visiting garden centres, nurseries and gardens have fair knowledge of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter flowers.
Will learn more through Floriculture class, research and studying plants, flowers, being involved in florist year and more practical hands on use. Learn to identify flowers by name.
Good organisation of and safe use of equipment and tools related to floristry and technical skills
Currently using florist scissors, knife, secatures, wires, glue, tape etc.
Greater awareness needed of health and safety and good organisation/hygiene in retail environment and further technical knowledge of oasis, wiring, use of glue gun, range of arrangement for occasions
Retail and customer Service skills
Experience of dealing and responding to customer need in social service delivery. Need to adapt and apply this learning to retail environment and busy pace of retail store.
Experienced at working full time but developing awareness that floristry is physically demanding, carrying, lifting, standing, handling plants and flowers etc and work day is long. Need to build fitness and practice safe working methods.
