To comply with employment legislation – under Terms of Employment (Information) Act an employer is obliged to provide an employee with a written statement of terms of employment within the first two months of employment and when changes occur in employment. It covers core aspects of role including name and address of employer and employee, hours of work, place of work, title of job, terms relating to pay, annual leave, sick pay etc and other basic details.
It is good professional practice – it sets out clear expectations, terms and conditions in a consistent format and is a useful tool to guide the employee /employer relationship. It can become more important if there is a dispute between employee and employer.
It communicates essential policies and procedures regarding how the employer deals with critical issues which can arise in the employment term ie.
