Dear Friends living in America and who care about America,
What if you walked in the door of your home to find a group of armed thugs there waiting to harm you and your children? What would you do? If they pressed would you intercede and stand between the thugs and your children? Would you fight to save them? Sure you would. What if later you found that they gained entry through a window and or door you left partially opened? After the thugs are driven out would you shut and secure the door or window as to not allow reentry? Sure you would.
Friends, I sense I feel I have allowed spiritual thugs (sin) to invade my personal life, my family, my church and our nation at least to some extent? In a loving way I want to say I feel we (believers and others living in American) have also done this to some extent. Could it be that what we see in our country and the political arena are the consequences of years of leaving windows and doors partially opened? Could it also be that what we see in our country and in the political arena is a reflection or somewhat of a reflection of the state of our heart and soul in American? We see brash, boisterous, brazen behavior along with sophisticated polished cover ups. We see corruption, dissension, blaming, making excuses, minimizing big issuers and maximizing small issues, immoralities of all sorts, etc.
With that said, I really feel a call to shut the door (REPENT) to sins I have allowed to come in unknowingly and or willfully. I am not saying all our problems are the result of open doors or sins but I am saying it doesn’t hurt to ask God about it and take a look. King David did this Psalm 139:23,24. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me (sinful thugs in my life), and lead me in the way everlasting. Also see Psalm 32:3-6.
3 Ps: of the 3-day plan: Purpose, Plan and Prayer.
Primary Purpose: The sins of our nation are many with judgment upon us thus we need to repent and pray as an act of faith and obedience thus glorifying God and enjoying Him which is our ultimate goal in life. Secondary purpose: To spark revival and refreshing among ourselves and the church with the hope of others coming into a personal relationship with Jesus. (see Acts 3:19, Romans 10:1, Proverbs 11:30). It is up to God whether or not He wants to bless and restore us as a result of repentance, prayer and fasting. We do want deliverance and healing of our land but God is worthy even if He does not deliver this. We don’t want to seek God just for His stuff. (see Job 1:9-11). We want to come to God with no strings attached like Habakkuk in Habakkuk 3:17-19.
Plan: To get this invitation of the 3-day national repentance, prayer and fasting to as many people as possible via social media, email and other forms of communication.
Prayer: The Repentance, Prayer and Fasting days will have a focus and recommendations. See 3 days below.
1st day: Oct 7 and or 21: Individual repentance, prayer and fasting.
2nd day: Oct 8 and or 22: Family and church repentance, prayer and fasting.
3rd day: Oct 9 and or 23: National repentance, prayer and fasting.
3 Rs of recommendations:
Repent and Reveal: Repent means to change your mind and do a 180 degree turn from evil and do good. Repent of known sin in our lives individually, corporately as a family and church and nationally. Repent and confess in private and with others for restoration and healing. (see 1 John 1:9, James 5:16). Reveal: Ask God to show us what we can’t see, the good for encouragement and the bad (sin) for repentance. Ask Him to reveal things that are not pleasing to Him, (i.e. thoughts, words, actions or lack of actions). (see Job 38:3) Ask Him to show you doors or portals opened through which satan obtained access to build strongholds in us individually, as a family, a church and or a nation and or where God withdrew His hand of protection and blessings due to sin. (see Joshua 7:12) Ask Him to show you sins you may have committed in ignorance (see Acts 3:17). Not knowing about things does not necessarily make us unaccountable.
Remove and Replace: Remove things unpleasing to Him. They may be things in your home or vulnerable situations at work or in communication with the opposite sex if you are married. Maybe it is spending too much time on the internet or being unaccountable. Maybe you are getting in trouble looking at inappropriate images. Replace the sin and time it took up in your life with something good and Godly. Luke 11:24-28 points to a “remove and replace” principle.
When you are trying to break a bad habit replacing it with a good habit often helps. However, don’t replace one idol for another as I have done in my life. You may want to pray over your home and work place asking Jesus what He wants you to remove that is unclean in His sight and not profiting you or your family. i.e. certain magazines, stuff coming through the internet, limit time on internet, social media, etc.
This is big: Replace a fast paced over committed schedule which does not allow much time to rest, be in the Word and prayer, to think, play, etc. with a simpler slower paced schedule with much less stress and more time to rest and think. I have been a believer for over 30 years. Over the years I have heard stories of people working too hard and long, going too fast, taking on too much where they are stressed out. Some stories did not end well. Some did repent in time and saved their marriage. In the fast paced stressed life, we tend to gravitate or may gravitate to things that give pleasure or relief quickly but don’t deliver down the road. Remember Sabbath rest. We are certainly learning this on Sabbatical.
Recommit or Commit. If you are a believer, recommit. If you are an unbeliever commit to surrendering to Jesus and start to follow Him for the first time. I did this at age 23 and it was the very best decision I ever made in my life. One, it saved me from going to hell. Two, it brought me into a wonderful personal eternal relationship with God my Great Father and His Precious Son, Jesus. Commit individually and corporately to follow Jesus. Come together as one to follow Jesus with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and to love our neighbor as our self. (see Acts 2:42, Ephesians 4:1-6, Matthew 22:35-40)
Please seek your health care provider about fasting for any length of time. If you can’t fast the whole three days, consider a partial fast of giving up one meal a day or giving up social media to some extent. You can fast from recreation or other things and use that time in prayer.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Try praying 3 times a day as was the custom of Godly Daniel. (see Daniel 6:10). It is not necessary but consider a prayer posture like kneeling or lying face down on the floor reflecting a heart that is totally submitted, dependent and desperate for God. Set an amount of time to repent and pray that is doable for you and not discouraging. Consider praying in your closet. Pray in your car instead of listening to the radio or music.
Consider praying with one other person 3 times a day for 3 days or 2 other people (a triad) 3 times a day for 3 days. I like triads. I like the old fashion way of praying with others face to face but you may consider Skype, video calling, group texting or email. If you are married I highly recommend you to pray with your spouse. I find praying and getting into the Word with my wife helps with our oneness and we enjoy sharing the insights God gives us in the Word. Guys, I encourage you to lead in this and the 3-day event. I recently heard a Pastor quoted saying, “She can’t follow a parked car.”
Consider making a short 2 to 3-minute video of your testimony of coming to Christ or a recent testimony and posting it on fb and YouTube. This will help overcome the evil one and facilitate the great commission as our time on earth here is short. (see Revelation 12:11,12 Matthew 28:19-28).
In order for our nation to change, hearts need to change and only God can change the heart. However, we can beseech Him with compassion, intensity and frequency to change the hearts of all men and leadership. 1 Timothy 2: 1-8. Jesus desires all to be saved, even Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton. As many detest the words and actions of these candidates there is still only one sin that will send them or anyone to hell. That is to reject and not totally surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Lord and Savior. God commands us to pray for leadership.
I plan to share written prayers from my quiet times on fb 3 times a day for 3 days of repentance prayer and fasting. You may want to use them as a guide.
Follow up and action after the 3-day event: You may want to consider asking your Pastors or church leadership for permission to form a prayer ministry in your church if you don’t already have one. (see Isaiah 56:7, Mark 11:17) In a loving way I want to say that not only do we need to bring prayer back in the public schools, we need to bring more prayer back in many of our church services. My prayer is that this 3-day repentance, prayer and fasting will facilitate an ongoing life changing, life giving, fervent pray movement individually and corporately. Jesus encourages us to always pray and never give up. (see Luke 18: 1- 8).
I really like some of the EM Bounds quotes on prayer:
“Wise is he in the day of trouble who knows his true source of strength and who fails not to pray”. – E.M. Bounds.

Tips on sin:
Sometimes when I reflect on the Holiness of God and confess my sin I fall into grieving that moves to self-focus and discouragement. Ask God to take you from grieving to His grace at the time that is best for you. The 3 G’s: Grieve, Grace, then Go out and live for Him. (see Ephesians 2:8,9). Go from Romans 7:7-24, honest introspect of sin in your life, to Romans 8;1-11 mindset of no condemnation and total freedom!
Sometimes sin can have a stronger hold on us due to physical problems that may hinder our decision making and energy levels. I know this from personal experience and in talking with others. Recently my sleep apnea really took a toll on my mood and ability to crucify my flesh (see Galatians 5:24) and fight the forces of evil. (see Ephesians 6:10-20). I am not making excuse for sin but I believe it is it harder to live a holy life when you can’t think well and have low energy.
I recommend taking to your health care provider about a physical examination, blood and hormone levels checked (thyroid levels), maybe a sleep study if you don’t’ feel rested in the day and talk about stress levels. Mental and or physical stress as a result of some type of trauma or offense may alter your course for some time as it did mine and has others.
Sins: Here are some possible sins we may need to confess: Unforgiveness, resentment, bitterness, envy, pride, conflicts, lust, unreconciled relationships (see Matt 5:23,24) porn, materialism, self-loathing, passiveness, judgmental or critical spirit, workaholic, passive aggressiveness, manipulation, favoritism, too much social media, any type of sexual sin, adultery, drugs, alcohol, anger outburst, prayerlessness, laziness, gluttony, etc. (see Ephesians 4:31). Indifference that precludes repentance is a sin that can be overlooked and it is offensive and serious to God. (See Matthew 11:20-24 and Luke 10:11-16).
Ask others around you what good fruit they see in your life and what sin or potential sin they see in your life. Ask your spouse or children.
More thoughts and support on calling for a 3-day national repentance, praying and fasting:
The Bible and history support repentance, prayer and fasting. I like the example of Esther the best for our current situation in American. (see Esther 3 to 5). Annihilation of the Jews was interment. We have danger and possible annihilation of the freedoms and ways this nation has known. Perhaps like Esther, we were placed here for such a time as this. Let us not be silent but pray and fast for 3 days as Esther and the Jews did. Perhaps it is time individually and collectively as one man to enter the King’s throne with total humility and ask for mercy for ourselves, family, church and nation. Our King has extended His scepter (Jesus Christ) to us because we had saving faith in Him. God now looks on us with favor. Now we can enter His throne of grace with confidence and find mercy and grace to help us in our great time of need here in America. (see Hebrews 4:16)
Jesus talked about avoiding future judgement by repenting. (see Matthew 11:21 and Luke 10:13-14) God also warned and told 5 out of 7 churches to repent in order to avoid judgment and consequences. If Jesus were to evaluate our churches today what would He say that is good? What would He say was not good? What sins? We can ask Him to evaluate us and our churches now! What a privilege!

http://www.dayofrepentance1.org/repentance-history-examples/http://www.dayofrepentance1.org/repentance-history-examples/ Read how Abraham Lincoln and others instituted a national or public day of humiliation, prayer and fasting as the nation had sin and faced great dangers. Are we not now in the same condition?
….” Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do, by this proclamation, designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer. And I do hereby request all the People to abstain on that day from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite, at their several places of public worship and their respective homes, in keeping the day holy to the Lord, and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.
All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country, to its former happy condition of unity and peace.”
