Senior Capstone Career Project - Product Work Log
Name: Jacob Little
Product: Bucking Barrel
Date, Time, & Location:
12:00 - 1:00
Activity: Me and my friends Bailey and Damon loaded up some extra steel from my house into my truck.
Commentary: The steel is for support and I got a huge steel plate for the base.
Time Spent: 1 hours
Total Time Thus Far: 1 hour
3:45 – 4:45
Activity: We had to look for a barrel that was in good enough shape to use for my product. Then we loaded it up and took it to the shop.
Commentary: The barrel is the main part of the product, so I had so make sure I found a good one.
Total Time Thus Far: 2 hours
4:30 – 7:30
Activity: Me and Tyson, started cutting up some of the steel.
Commentary: Had to have everything measured out perfect and make sure the cuts were good.
Time Spent: 3 hours
Total Time Thus Far: 5 hours
Date, Time, & Location:
Activity: Had to use a cutting torch to cut the plate some more so it could fit inside of the wheel, and then I had to measure out the studs on the bearing and cut holes for it to go in to the steel I cut.
Commentary: Tyson and I had to make sure the bearing went into the steel snug, because it’s the part that makes the barrel spin.
Time Spent: 5 Hours
Total Time Thus Far: 10 hours
Activity: Then we welded the piece of steel with the bearing on to the wheel, then we added some metal supports.
Commentary: This was one of the most important parts because that’s where all of the weight and pressure will be.
Time Spent: 2 hours
Total Time Thus Far: 12 hours
4:30 – 5:30
Activity: Tyson and I welded the spring onto the bearing and then compressed the shock down about 4 inches so it wouldn’t get top heavy.
Commentary: We had to do that so it wouldn’t fall over when I jump on it.
Time Spent: 1 hour
Total Time Thus Far: 13 hours
Activity: We then stuck a metal 2x2 pipe and ran it straight up from the spring and then sat the barrel onto the pipe. Then I welded up all the areas to make it hold and be sturdy.
Commentary: This was one of more important parts of the whole project.
Total Time Thus Far: 15 Hours
Activity: We had to finish the handle to the barrel, and then we wrapped some old carpet around it and drilled it into the barrel so it wouldn’t come off.
Commentary: This was just some of the finishing touches of the bucking barrel.
Total Time Thus Far: 17 Hours
