My name is Jake Jones and I am a senior at Cherokee High School.
I have been racing dirt late models for five years.
My product is a hydraulic lift for my racecar.
Hydraulic Lift vs. Conventional Floor Jack
My paper discusses the mechanics behind both the hydraulic lift and the floor jack.
The paper also highlights the multiple advantages the hydraulic lift has over the floor jack.
My research about this topic gave me a much better understanding of the ways each of these systems operates and why the hydraulic lift is a much more effective method of raising and lowering a racecar.
My mentor’s name is Jeremiah Thompson.
He attended Southern Poly and earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
He is currently working for Advanced Control Solutions (ACS).
As a result of the research I did, I decided to build a hydraulic lift.

There were many individual steps taken to accomplish these tasks.
Pump and Cylinders
This project challenged me because I was not very familiar with the process.
I had to research and familiarize myself with the concepts behind hydraulics in order to gain a better understanding of my product.
I also had to learn the process of constructing the frame and mounting the hydraulics.
This project taught me to never give up on something just because obstacles arise.
During the process of designing and constructing the frame, we ran into multiple obstacles and had to return to square one more than once.
Though this was frustrating, it taught me that it is important to learn from these obstacles and use them to make the final product even better.
College and Career Interests
I will be attending the University of Georgia and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
This project gave me a better understanding of the types of projects that a mechanical engineer works with on a daily basis.
My project furthered my interest in mechanical engineering and ensured to me that it is the path I want to take as I begin my college career.
