Senior Capstone Career Project - Product Work Log
Name: Jake Alvey
Product: BBQ Smoker
Date, Time, & Location: 9/16/16, 4:30pm-6:15pm, John's house
Activity: Filling out questionnaire and discussing ideas.
Commentary: At first I believed to build it out of metal I weld totally together into shape. John told me this is near impossible with the time we have. We then agreed to construct the smoker out of an old propane tank with welded on structures such as the fire box.
Time Spent: 1 hour 45 min
Total Time Thus Far: 1 hour 45 min
Date, Time, & Location: 1/7/17, 11 am-2:20pm, Metal shop and John's house
Activity: Today we picked up the propane tank and metal needed to construct the project.
Commentary: It was not easy unloading it and much less easier unloading it.
Time Spent: 3 hours 20 min
Total Time Thus Far: 5 hours 5 min
Date, Time, & Location: 2/7/17 2:30pm-3:15pm, Cherokee High
Activity: Putting logs and all forms into one note.
Commentary: Computers can be very difficult.
Time Spent: 55min
Total Time Thus Far: 6 hours
Date, Time, & Location: 2/18/17 2:30pm-3:15pm, John’s House
Activity: Changing designs because old design was too expensive.
Commentary: New design is using two 55 gallon drums for the fire box and smoke room. Both are made completely out of metal.
Time Spent: 45 min
Total Time Thus Far:6 hours 45 minutes
Date, Time, & Location: 3/1/17
4:30 John's house
Activity: welding the first legs on the fire box drum.
Commentary: Different angle welding is more difficult than I thought. Although difficult, I accomplished it.
Time Spent: 2 hours
Total Time Thus Far: 8 hours 45 minutes
Date, Time, & Location: 4/3/17, 6:30pm-8:30pm, My House
Activity: Adjusting design so barrels are easier to weld together and doing away with the plate with holes in the middle. Also adding platform for fire to sit on and a cover for the flames so the meat wont get burnt.
Commentary: This design is much more practical and will prevent grease fires.
Time Spent: 2 hr
Total Time Thus Far: 10 hr 45 min
Date, Time, & Location: 4/7/17, John's House, 4:30pm-8:30pm
Activity: designing doors and handles, cutting doors and cover for the flames. Building stand for the fire to sit on.
Commentary: The welding on the platform for the flames was extremely difficult because the platform was extremely thin while the connector metal was thick.
Time Spent: 4 hr
Total Time Thus Far: 14 hr 45 min
Date, Time, & Location: 4:30pm-8:30pm, John's House, 4/8/17
Activity: Welding doors and barrels together. Drilling oxygen holes in bottom. Welding in grill platform. Putting finishing touches on the product.
Commentary: The welding for the grill platform was easy while welding the barrels was difficult. I had to hammer all dents out and make the barrels line up perfectly.
Time Spent: 4hr
Total Time Thus Far: 18hr 45 min
