April 2017 Dear Parents, Each May, the Islip School District partners with Barnes & Noble to kick off our Summer Reading Program. This year’s book fair will occur on May 24 at the Barnes & Noble in Bay Shore located at the Gardiner Manor Mall, 842 Sunrise Highway. A small percentage of the sales from the day are given back to the district. Books from our K- 12 book lists will be prominently displayed. Students will be receiving a voucher just prior to the event. Please present this voucher when making your purchases. These vouchers may also be used in the café. If you cannot attend the fair, vouchers are valid on-line for 5 days after the event. Many activities and raffles are planned for the day. Wayne Mennecke, one of Islip’s high school science teachers, will be signing copies of his new book, Pencils Down! Performances by the Islip Jazz Band and the Islip Swing Choir have been scheduled. Principals and district personnel will also read their favorite stories. In addition, we have a special activity for our elementary students, cupcake decorating. Please see the schedule below for exact times. Jazz Band and Swing Choir 3:00-4:30 p.m. Mr. McCarthy (Interim Commack Road Principal) 4:20 p.m. Dr. Smalley (Wing Principal) 4:40 p.m. Session 1 – Cupcake Decorating (Grades K-2) 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. Session 2 – Cupcake Decorating (Grades 3-5) 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in participating in the cupcake decorating, you must pre-register by returning the attached form and $1.
