_____________________ P ass It On: Collecting Old clothes Senior Project
Hello my name is Ife’la. I chose this project because before I moved to Acworth after I had a tragic home fire in Lithonia, Georgia, my mom suggested ways to get myself a head start in life with a good business and we both came up with the idea of collecting old clothes and donating them back out. We though it was a good way to star a Non-Profit off and also to let me get a glimpse of other options to make money.
Career Research Paper
When we started in first semester, I searched up how donations started, when they began, and what impact it had on across the globe. I researched these topics because they we’re going to help me better my knowledge I already had known about donations and giving back. I felt as if there was more to learn and understand just to gain more information and incite.
My project facilitator’s name is Willa Allgood. She is a great mentor, facilitator, guider, teacher, and a great family friend. She is a very good listener and is very open to questions and advice. During the year and her being a great help, she has looked for places to place bins, she has collected old clothes from her children and children and parents in her neighborhood. We had no luck getting bins in a lot of places and I soon ran too late to ask to set bins up the school due to working a lot and me being tired, we soon were able to put bins by Kroger. Ms.Willa would come over and bring me clothes and help wash the collected clothing. This journey was long but also very fun and influential.
With the items I had collected, most of the clothes needed to be washed, dyed, sorted, and folded into separate bags.
The problems I had encountered weren’t huge issues but they did interfere with the process, such as not being able to post my bins at certain stores, working my late shifts or being busy, having to be able to have to squeeze in my time to wash my clothes with my families clothes at home.
Going through this process with completing my project taught me many things about myself. It helped me balance school, work, and dedicating myself to my project. I work at McDonalds and having to work hours such as 5pm-11pm, makes it hard for me to have energy for school work, college, my home and social life, and doing my project. Overall what I learned through this process was dedication and responsibility. In order to get this done I needed to be able to get up early and work long late nights to get this done.
Postsecondary Endeavors / Self Realizations
What I learned about myself, that if I want it I will go and get it, I am dedicated to prove to myself and others that I am capable to do anything I put my mind to.
The skills that I came in contact with that I would have to have in college would be responsibility, dedication, compassion, and to be driven.
I aspire to be a Psychologist, but in the future I do plan on continuing this work I have created.
