Name: Helen Majano
Product: Fashion Magazine
Date, Time, & Location:
January 9th 2017, 1:30-3:15
Activity: I sketched the layout of my magazine and the theme of the magazine.
Commentary: I had trouble trying to figure out how long I wanted the magazine. I want the magazine to include all of my ideas, but I may have to cut out some because it will be too long. Also, the longer the magazine is, the more money it will cost to print it. I mentally prepared outfits that I want my models to wear for each style that I have in mind.
Time spent with mentor:
Total Time Thus Far:
1 Hour and 45 minutes
January 10th 2017, 1:00-4:37
Activity: I designed all of my sketches onto a program that creates magazines and choose my models who are going to participate in my magazine.
Commentary: Designing all of my ideas onto the program took longer than I imagined it to be. I messed around with my theme and sketches and ended up changed some designs and the theme. In addition, I managed to minimize the magazine to 36 pages, which will result in the printing to hopefully be in the price range I want it to be. I scheduled to meet with my mentor by the end of this month.

Activity: I picked out the outfits I want my models to be in and what poses they will do for each two outfits. I planned when I will be doing the photo-shoot with my models.
Commentary: It was hard to narrow down different styles I want for my magazine, but after looking at my models, I picked the best styles that represent them and myself. I went out shopping to pick up clothing and shoes I want featured in my magazine. I designed a pair of two-toned jeans and finished sewing the jeans, which I will assign a model to wear them and give it away.

Activity: I showed my mentor my sketches and designs of my magazine. Mr. Knaus gave me advice on how to present my sense of fashion in my designs and photographs of the models.
Commentary: Mr. Knaus suggested I either present all seasons for each style in the magazine or have the styles listed in order of the seasons. He sketched out his ideas of how I should add small details when I present pictures of the styles. His feedback was very positive and was interested in my layout and design of my magazine. Mr. Knaus also helped show me how to edit my photographs using my camera and the editing program.

Activity: I began editing the photos that I took on this day and have rearranged some ideas I had for the magazine layout because of some of the photos.
Commentary: Some of the photos I took of the models did not pair up with the design and layout I had in mind for the certain style, so I had to rearrange some of my ideas. It was difficult to edit the pictures like how I wanted them, but with time everything worked out. I had to take an hour trying to figure out how the photo editing software worked.

Activity: I had my second session of taking pictures with another two models. I had the models change into two outfits each and walk around the area taking pictures.
Commentary: Today was far easier than the previous day taking pictures. I already had certain poses and outfits I wanted the models to be pictures in. I used a few same locations from the day before, but I did discover some other cute, photogenic places to take pictures. One of my models had to reschedule because she was sick, so I still have a few more sessions with the rest of my models.

Activity: I had my third session of taking pictures of my models. I changed the location to Downtown Woodstock.
Commentary: I was supposed to shoot two girls in Downtown Woodstock, but one of the girls was unable to make it, so I either plan to replace her with someone or reschedule her. This photo-shoot went really well and it is one of my favorite photo shoots that I have done. Editing was a bit hard for this session because of some lighting in the photos, but the pictures ended up very good. I also added the pictures to the magazine.

Activity: I met up with my mentor to show him the magazine in progress.
Commentary: My mentor loves the magazine so far. He had some editing comments about rearranging some photos and adding some designs to the pages.
He liked the idea that I used my clothes and purchased a few items for my models, and let them pick outfits to wear. He was also surprised about how much clothes and shoes I have for a seventeen year old and can’t imagine how much I will have when I am older. My mentor is excited to meet with me in a few weeks to see more updates on the magazine.

Activity: I worked on my third session with two of my models in Downtown Roswell.
Commentary: I wanted to change up the location and get more backgrounds for my pictures. The two new models I worked with had great ideas for their outfits and certain poses that pertained to the outfits. I took a lot of pictures, but since I had some restriction on the amount of pages that I had, I was limited in using only a few.

Activity: I am going to go print off my magazine at Staples in Canton.
Commentary: I went to Staples to finally print off my magazine. The employee and I had to work around to adding some white pages because the pages were printing off in a weird order. The cost ended up less than I had imagined. The employee was fascinated with the magazine that she gave me a discount, which lowered the price even more. I am very happy and excited about my printed magazine
