PRODUCT FOCUS: Memory stick wrist band
THE CHOSEN PRODUCT
My product that I have chosen to improve is a Lifelines wrist USB. I have chosen this product because I like it a lot I have had it for the last 2 years and I have used it almost every school day however there are some large design flaws that I can easily alter and improve. However the product was never sold it was given to people that worked at lifefitness so I have no indication of price.so I will have to research all components to get a starting price.
The consumer primary need is to move files from one place to another this is the primary need because it is the purpose of the USD.
It will also have to look stylish because no consumers will buy it if it does not look good the consumer will not by it this is why I will have to think long and hard about how to shape and what colour my band will be however the USD cant be modified because it is a very complexes and I don’t think that I will be able to change it.
Durability is another important need because if it does not last along time because if not it will be unable to complete its primary function which means that it not meeting the consumer needs
The ergonomics of the product is also very important because if the consumer cannot use the product it is pointless. I will have to research in to material that is easy to bend and does not irritate the skin. The size of the USB will also be important because if it is to big it will get court on thing and fall of, however if it is too small the memory on the USB will be very small and not very usable.
THE INTENDED PURPOSE OF THE PRODUCT
Its purpose is to move files safely and easily from computer to computer with minimal effort. To move files all the user has to do is plug it in to a USD port which all computers have, then drop the file in to the USD symbol by clicking and dragging on the file you want moving. because of its smart design it attaches to your wrist this makes it easy to get out instead of going through your pockets also its colour is red so that it can be found easily when dropped or lost it being attached to your wrist also helps because you are constantly aware of its location so if you are a forgetful person you can easily remember where it is. It is also good for people that do sport because if you have no pockets because it attaches to your wrist and also will not be ruined by sweat because the material is water proof. The material is also not irritable so the user can wear it with out being uncomfortable.
The USB is 20-30cm in length and 1.8-1.2cm in thickness and 3mm in depth.it will be made out of HCR because it is strong and can withstand a high rang of temperatures I will need to buy or reuse the USB from the original product this is because the band is being remade too be adjustable for all wrist size. And in doing this I may need a different size USB because the why in which connect is friction so they need to be the exact size otherwise the band will be to easily disconnected from the USB. Because of the simplicity of the design there is only 2 components the USB with will be mad3+0.

HOW TO USE THE PRODUCT
The product is very easy to use it is essentially the same as every other USB apart from it can attaché to its self to make a band that goes on your wrist for hands free carrying. The band will fit in to its self by using the head of the USB as a the computer would by friction this is so that the user does not have to bother with notes or other forms of fashioning the band together this is also because the friction between the head and the band is strong but not to strong that the user can‘t pull it apart easily. The USB will not be removable from the band unlike the original product this is because when I was using the products it would sometimes fall out which was annoying and could also damage the USB.
THE KEY CRITERIA USED IN ITS DESIGN
To safely transport files from computer to computer easily also to look very stylish while doing this. The band must also be very comfortable because it will be irritable for the user otherwise. Another function for this product is to be a fashionable wrist band that males and tamales can wear as jewellery. The band also acts as a pocket space saver because the USB does not need to go in to your pocket their for saving space for other items in the pocket.
How the band works with the client is very important because otherwise the band doesn’t work so to make the band work with people well I will be a survey of what materials people enjoy the feel of and what irritates them this will help me make the band enjoyable but functional also for tight the band is to the skin will also play a major role in how the band works because if it is to tight it will cut of blood supple to hand but to loose it will fall of.
The look of the product is as important as the usefulness of the product in the modern world this is why I will have to make a large collection of paters and designs and then have a group of people rate them out of ten for how much they liked them this will be critical because without this information I will have no gage of how popular the chosen paters are.
The material for the band must be very stretchy but at the same time it must be strong because it will be exposed to all the toures of normal life for example sweet, friction and fast changes if temperature. The USB will not be made by me so I will not be able to set a critical standard of performance.
Because I‘m going to be going to be working with rubber I will need to learn the key factors of rubber working, this may include the machines that are uses to work is and the sources of it. Also if I‘m using a USB I must know how to fit and use a USB this my include doing research in to how durable the USB or interims of how long they last and how much of a beating they could take before being unusable. Also the basic manufacturing process that goes in to making them because this will give me a greater understanding of how to apply them.
All the way thought manufacturing I will need to make notes of how much of what material I‘m using this will be so I don‘t over or under estimate how mush I‘m spending. The cost of the band will be relatively cheap because of its small and unexpansive parts however this means I can spend more on aesthetics. I think the range of price that I think I should be looking to sell my product at is £5-10 this is based on market research of other USBs .
EASE OF USE
The band does not have any safety hazards that I can think of this is because it is soft and does not have any electricity running though it however it the user has overly large wrist is has the potential to prevent blood flow to hand. The head of the USB is slightly Sharpe so if someone has it on there wrist it could scratch or cut wrist if deep anoth this could be a curios injury because of major arteries that run there.so I will have to find some way of preventing metal ever touching skin in the band.
The material that it is made out of will have a large effect of how easily it can be used this is because if the material is to grip the band will rub against the skin of the user. It will also make it very hard to use the connector of the band because it will grip to much. Size will also make a major role in how easy it will be to use because some users may have small wrists so the band will slip over there hands and fall of on to the flour.
ANALYSING THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE PRODUCT
The product has a simple function making it easy for the user to use it. There are also no large floors in the design it is compact and light so there is not a large strain on the users wrist.
The USB has a large amount of space in it so it can store lots of files on it. Also the function of the friction grip way of holding the band together this is because the band is easy to put on this is because there are no complicated parts it just a push and fit.
The band is sometimes hard to get on to your wrist this is because it is very small on my wrist and others peoples that have tried it.
Because of the large amount of overhang left outside the computer when the USB is inserted it is easy to accidentally pull out or knock out.

Because it does not have a large range of materials in the band it is easy to puncture and scratch but not pull apart easily.
Some peoples skin are irritated by the band this is a problem because it makes the product unusable for some people.
There are only two materials in the product the band and the USB the band is made out of some kind of rubber and USB is made out of lost of electrical components.
Both of there's components are non-biodegradable so they will last a long time and be burble. This will also mean that they are both waterproof
Because the materials that are used are used are source from different country's the amount of money that is spent on transport is large.
High Tec machines must be used to make the USB this is because it is very intercalate.
Because of the simplicity of the product the manufacturing process is very simple and does not take many steps this is good because I can be make it lots of time and easily change or tweak the design if I need to. This does mean that the band
The white text can sometimes be very irritating and cause small blisters this may be because it is to tight and cant be adjusted this makes it very easy to pull of if it is nocked. If the band was adjustable it would not be so easy to nock because it would be less tight and have less stress on the joint.
the band fits tightly around my wrist is does not rub and the metal head does not scratch or irritate my wrist ether. The white LIFEFITNEs text lets the user know that this is a life fitness product .
Because it only has two colours on it it does not have a very good contrast this is why it looks very plain and does not stand out against of the products. Also the type of red on the project is not very appealing this is because it is very dark and bleak.
The band is solid red however the only other colour on it is the white writing on the side of the band this is in a nice text font that looks stylish this also gives a nice contrast between the red of the band

IDENTIFYING AND ANALYSING CERTAIN MORAL IMPLICATIONS
Sours of material- because the band is made of plastic ,oil must be mined to make it this proses is very harmful to the environment because is has a very high risk of leaking in to the environment. The environment is damaged by this because is pollutes local water sources making the unusable for humans and animals. The metal in the band must be mind from the ground as well
Pollution- The process of actually making crude oil in to usable oil actually take a large amount of electricity to heat the oil before it is pumped in to the distillation Colom. Plastics take a very large amount of time to biodegrade this means they will site in land fills or seas for hundreds of years before they are full broken down.
Sustainability-the oil reserves will run out eventually because it will is a finite reassure that means it cant be made. However the plastic products that have been made from oil can be reused this is why there is a specific symbol on all products that are made from oil so that they can be recycled. It is not sustainable for the environment to keep on using the amount of plastic products that we have been using for the last 20 years this is because the amount CO2 that is produced in the making and recycling of oil is increasing globule temperatures. This is because of a process of global warming which is where the CO2 in the atmosphere gets heated by the sun but stays hotter for longer than normal air in the atmosphere, so it gets hotter. The effect of this is that the sea levels rise because of the ice caps melting and weather paters become more extreme.
Waist material-the band is made with injection moulding so there is near to no waist material this is because the plastic is injected and has no way of going anywhere else. If the soldering is done by a human there will be less waist than if the soldering is done by a machine. This is because the machine puts a lot of solder on it however the amount of solder a skilled worker puts on is a very small amount.
Where the materials come from-There is no specific source of plastic in the world because there is so many usually oil from all over the world is standardised in barrels so there is no way of finding the source of the oil. Like the oil the metal in the band is
Where it is used and does it do environmental damage when in use- the USB in use make no pollution however for it to function it needs a computer that needs power, which damages the environment because the way electricity in my local area and all over the UK
Safety- the only risk the band poses to the user is to cut or scratch the users writs when trying to put it on this is because the metal head of the USD is sharp. If the user has very large wrists then the band could cut off blood supply to the users hand. If lots of people are sharing the band it may not be high genic because bacteria can be transported from wrist to wrist. The product may not be appropriate for builders or manual labour because it could get court on something and make the user fall over or loose the band.
Fashion- the band is not very stylish and not many people would wear it in public this is because society is obsessed with fashion and looking new which this band does not do. This is because of the colour of the band and the shape is not very modern
Price- the price of the band is relatively cheap this is good and bad good because the band will be obtained at a fair price for the user and lots more people would by it because it is cheap. But because the product is cheap people my think that it is of a low quality and buy a product of the same standard but higher cost. This is why selling it for a higher price my make it a more trusted brand an example of this is beats by dray.
Adverting-the product will need to be advertised to an ordinance that is of an age that they are capable of using a memory stick and have a need for one. Platforms that this product is suitable to be advertised on will be the internet and office equipment site also sites like amazon this Is because they
Inclusive products- the product is not exclusive to any people the only need for the user is two have two working hands. Old people may have some problems with the product because it is a faddily to attach to your wrist and with frail hands it will be much harder. People that are prom having irritable skin may not buy this product because they know that it will irritate them a way around this will be to pad the inside of the band
Effects of product-The effect the product will have on the user is that the band will make it safer and faster to move electronic file from place to place. It does not effect peoples political or social views, beyond saving time for the user the band will have no effect on the user. Is some cases the user might be more wiling to run or jump in normal school or office life because they know that they cant loose the USB.
Quality of life-the product will not be a very large improvement on the life of the user apart from in the long run time save by using the product could total to a substantial amount of time. Some users may feel less stressed because the know that there files are safe
Influents of social rights- The minerals that go in to making the USBs are sources from Africa where some mines us children to work this is obviously affecting there human right because they are not beaning given the chance to an education.
Competition- there Is a large market for lots of different types of very similar USB like I said in my COMPARING THE PRODUCT WITH OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS the market is very oversaturated with band that all do the something however I think there is a real gap in the market for something new and original like this there are only 3 or free products that are really similar to mine this is not many.

The main objective of the product is to be able to safely move files from one computer to another whist the product being comfortable to wear. My target market will be people that live an active life and are constantly on the move doing sports or traveling. This is because the product will be designed so that when people are moving the USB doesn't fall out the pocket of the user in stead it will be strapped securely too the wrist meaning there files are safe, this market also includes school children. The age group that this will be aimed at will be within 13-35 years of age. This is because lower than this they don’t have work to transport and older than this people start to become less active and have less need to have the product secured too them and can just have it in there pocket. Because the age group is so large the band must be adjustable to fit the large variety of different wrists size and shapes. The same goes for the style which is chosen because it must also be fitting for a large variety of different tastes and personality's. The product must not be too expensive because it will put people off buying it how have less disposable income this especially applies to people in the lower end of the age group. However price is less important than the materials which are chosen because if not they could be very harmful to the environment or could be unethicality soured giving the product a bad reputation.
For each If the user lives an active life they will need a strong band that is able to be pulled and hit against thing without causing it to falter.

It will need to be strong because when making and being pulled the materials used are put under strain and it will need to withstand this because other wise the band will break and not function. Also if the user is court out in the rain the band will get wet and the USB will stop working this is why it must be water proof.
The bands sides must be very neutral in its look
Having the hole band in one colour and having not other decoration on the band or having a pattern or deign that appeals too lots of different groups and ages
Being plain means that the band can be appealing to a large group of people because there is nothing to dislike about the band
Having some simple decoration means that the band can still be used be different groups of people but is less plain which some people may not like
The band must be adjustable to a large variety of different sizes and must be comfortable for the user to excessive or move quickly in. its shape must not have hard pointy edges. Also its weight is very important it must not be more then 125 grams
Because if its not adjustable a large amount of people will not be able to use the band. And if the band is not nice to ware and irritates the user they will not ware it.
The main point that will affect how moral the band is the sourcing of materials
It must be usable by all different age race and cultural groups. this will mean that it cant offend or insult people

Tests will need to be done to make sure that the product cant be a choking hazard to children

The cost of the band must be low around 6 pounds. The limit of the bands cost must be around 7 pounds and lower limit must be around 3 pounds.
There must be around a 6 pounds sales price because at this price the band is will make a relatively large margin and also it is affordable and the
And there is a 4 pound price limits so that I don’t make a loss.
If I over use materials it will mean that the band is less eco friendly and makes more waist that could have been used in another product. Also it could start to hinder the function of the user because it will be too heavy.
The band must use a large variety of different manufacturing so that it will have a high quality finish. However I will need to make sure that I am constantly aware are how much each process cost me and if it is efficient at the purpose that I'm trying to achieve
This is because if I'm not sure which possess to use then the material or look will have an unintended effect that make the band in to something the target market wouldn’t find attractive.

I will also do this be having a group of people evaluating the look of the band when it is in the design stage too prevent it from looking anything different then what the market want.
The main function is to safely transport files from one computer to another with out any loss of information.
To look good and make the user feel
Because if files are not transported safely they could be lost and that would mean that the user would have to remake them.
This is because if the user doesn't feel good wearing the band then they will not user it also it will encourage other people too buy the product.
When I'm modelling I will test the function lots o time so that I can improve the way that the band functions with the user.
By changing an testing lots of different ideas and finding the best on from the group that I have made.
Ergonomics & Size
The size and weight must not be more than an average watch this is because the user will find it hard or more noticeable to wear if it is heavier than this.
Its shape must also not be much more than a normal watch too the detentions of this are ruffle 4cm in radios and not more than 1 cm thick..
If the band is heavy the user will find it hard to exercise in it also it will be tiring and may affect the performants and balance of the user. This may seem exaggerated however it does not take much weight too make a person go off balance.
This also applies too the shape because if the shape of the band extends too much in any detention the band will become a massive hindrance of the user balance.

Having all the detentions will make it much easier to improve and change my ideas this is because I will have knowledge of all my components.
I will make a durable and long lasting efficient band that has a large storage capacity so that it may be used in movement of large important files for long periods of time safely.
It must last more than 5 years
So that the band can be used lots of times without breaking or needing reparse that would cost materials man hours and money to fix.
This is also so the important files don’t get lost or cannot be recovered.

The target user would be in the age group of 13-100 because at this point in peoples lives they have the need to move files.
There is no specific gender target however I feel less females will use the product because it is unfashionable.
Because it is a large age group to sell too also it means that there will be more sales however this will mean that my ideas will have to appeal to a large group of people and not just my ages group.
The age cut off point is 13 because before this point the user will not really have a need to more work files around because they have no work to do.
consulting my peers advice on what thy like or dislike about the idea and seeing if I can use there constructive criticisms to improve my ideas.
I will also have to consult different age groups so that I can get an accurate picture of the needs of my target market are.
The product will be in a variety of environments because it travels around with the user everywhere they go

Testing the different leaves of waterproofing and also reassuring in too different ways of protecting the band from water damages. Also reaching different USB that come naturally waterproofed.
The main material will be flexible and stretchy can withstand being stretched up too 20-25cm
The USB will be hard and brittle
The band will need to be able to change to different wrist this will mean that it must be able to flexible and the USB must be hard because without the files inside could be destroyed very easily and this is the hole function of the band.
Buy testing and feeling the materials so that I get an understanding of how it would be in the product at the end of production
also so I can understand the limits and drawbacks of some materials I can then compare them to others. This is why the testing part of production is so important because without it the product would not function in the way it should.
The problem that I set for my pears was “the band does not have a very strong connection how could I improve the strength of the connection” they then came up with these designs that I will now evaluate.
This like the magnet and latch connector has the same problem that the band is to fiddle to open this is the main down side of this band however I think it will be strong and will good.
The elastic band will eventually need replacing this will mean that I will have to make a way to replace them.
I like this idea because it is relatively simple and would be easy to implement. Also the cost of the material will be very cheap.
It seams that all I would need to complete this design is put some sort of padding under the USB.
I'm not sure about how strong it will be because it is not much of an improvement.
this is a nice simple design and I think that it will work well with the band apart from I will have to move the USB down the band a small amount for the connector to work.
I am not sure if it will work with the material that the band is made out of this is because the band made from rubber that is very grippe and may take a lot of pulling from the user to open it.
I think that all the user will understand how to work the connector.
I don’t like this idea because the lugs will rub against the back of the band and eventually it will not work because the connector will be loos.
The lung will have to be attached with a glue however it is in close radios to the USB and I'm concerned that it may break the USB.
Its is good however because it would mean its easy for the user too be able to take the band on and off
This is much like the other design apart from it does not have a magnet on it this may be an improvement because it will be easier to use and will be much cheaper to make because the magnet will be very expensive to buy.
Because the band is without magnets it may make it easier to use because it will open more easily
If I am too make this than I will need to get the length of the latch to the absolute right size however the latch will be very strong because ether the latch or the band will have to break before the band will come undone
This is not a very good idea because it is poorly drawn and the animation on it is vague.
Changing the material that the band is made of may be good for strengthening the connection however it will be very expensive to replace the hole band.
My main fear with this idea is that the USB may be affected by the magnet.
I think that this idea will be very strong because there is a latch plus a magnet holding it together.
It may be a bit fiddle opening and closing the latches every time the USB is needed. Also the magnet might be a bit strong for some users to undo and may hurt there fingers

I was looking at bands and holding methods on the wrist and the most popular of them is the watch buckle. It is strong and adjustable but is also comfortable and easy to take of and on this is why I incorporated it In to my design. This means that the USB also has a different method of being pulled out this is because the watch buckle is the way of releasing the band from the wrist. So the way to get the USB head out is by pulling the case of off it.
Note: The gloss will also help with problem 2 because it improves the look of the band
Solution 1: The sharp end of the buckle tongue will have a small plastic head put on it this will prevent the sharp metal end from scratching the user however another way to fix this could be to give the metal a coat of varnish this would also give the buckle a more glossy look.
Solution 2: The look is very important because appearance of the band will determine if people buy it with this in mind I spent some time sketching patterns and thinking of ways to decorate the band.
Problem 1:The safety of the buckle
Buckle gets stuck on things and can be sharp. This is a problem because the user could accidentally scratch themselves or others making the band dangerous also the tongue can get court on thing making the user in the most server situation dislocate there wrist.
Note: the normal tong size that most watch makes use is 12 mm

The aesthetics of the band are not very good it is plane and not stylish this is a problem because the band is an item of clothing so must be patterned of coloured

Problem 3:Weakness of the tongue
The tongue is too thin it will be problem because the strength of the buckle comes from hear so for it to be weak and thin will make the rest of the buckle weak.

Problem 4:Materials weaknesses
the material is very grippe too itself and skin this makes it hard to do up and undo. Because the material is difficulty handle and it also make it difficult to adjust when wearing it.
I then did a quick survey of which band people liked the most here are the results I said to them rate them out of 10 on appearance.

Problem 5:Duradility of the holes
The band is made of weak stretch material this will mean that the tongue may tare the holes because it is metal and will receive lots of pull from the wrist and when this happens the band will be unusable. This will also make the band unable to adjust to different sizes.
Solution 3: I will use a thicker peace of metal for the tongue this will make it stronger and much more easy to buckle and un buckle because the lounge is thicker and easier to see as well as move. However increasing the size of the tong will mean that the material cost will increase.
there are lots of different sizes of rod that I can use for the tong so I did some research in to the size of the average tong on a watch buckle. Using models that I had made and other peoples watches
Problem 6:Waights of the band
because the USB is on the outside of the band the user may find it unfairly balanced and waited. This is Because the USB is large and not soft like the band.

Problem 7: Thickness
How thick the band is could make it uncomfortable for the user because it will cause his or her wrist to over heat and get sweaty. During exercise this could amplify this effect.
Solution 4: the problem with the band is that the material that it is made out of makes lots of friction when past over each other so my solution it so make the end that has the holes on it slightly pointed this will mean that the your can slide the strap thought the buckle with less resistant.
Problem 8:Function of the USB cover
Making it so the material stretches enough too get the USB out and is elastic enough too stretch back. Because if not the USB will be coming out all the time when the user is using the product this will be very irritating and potentially very dangerous because the USB head is sharp and could cut someone.

Solution 5:I have come up with an idea to reinforce the holes with a more durable material this may make the band more uncomfortable but the need to have a durable holes is more important than it being comfortable.

I think that it is a good idea but the way that the band comes on and off is good because I use a watch and Its easy to take that off and on. However I use a watch so I can were both at the same time this will mean I have to chose which one to ware in the morning.
The material that I have chosen to reinforce the hole is copper. This is because it is naturally lubricated and strong it is also cheap in comparison to the other materials that I have tested it is also the most effective.
The cardboard represents the plastic band and the paper is the more durable material. During the test I found out that the best way of reinforcing was 2 on the model.

Solution 6:I will make it so that the USB is more smoothly on the band instead of it being like a block on the side of the band. This will make it more comfortable because the band will have a more curved feel and look instead of it just being a block.
This will make the feel and look of the band more appealing because instead of harsh sharp edges on the band the sides are more gentle this is a more modern look and will also make it more ergonomic

Solution 7:I tested the different thickness of the band on myself this was because it would be quicker than testing the different thicknesses on different people this was also because I felt that I could more accurately measure how the changes affected the product this was because it was myself and not another person.
Though test on my model I have decided that the band thickness needs to be thin instead of think this is because of my test on pupils in my class and strength test that I have done. It needs to be fin because it is much lighter. the band itself is not very heavy even if I did use the thicker material but the pupils I tested the thicker bands on all said something like “the band feels blocky and heave” and the pupils that used the lighter thinner band said that it was “much less noticeable”
There was lots of different problem with getting an accurate reading on which thickness the band should be this was because the difference between them was very hard to feel I also had to keep account that the band also had to be durable as well so couldn’t be to fin however the trend was that the finer the band the more comfortable
because the thickness of the band is so important I will have to buy my materials to size this will ensure that the thickness of the band is the right size. And it will save time because I don’t have to cut it myself.
Solution 8:By changing the material that is around the USB it will be able to stretch and contract. The material will need to be able to stretch and be durable at the same time I can make sure that the USB is easy to get out but stays in when the user does not want it.
I need to find a material that is capable of performing this task I used my model to test different materials. This was difficult because the different materials had different pros and cons however all of the materials where more expensive than the original material that the band was made out of this is the main con because the price is a important factor of sales. However it will make it more appealing to potential customers.

Now that is the final design I see that went wrong with the first and how far it has come from there is good and the product look much more appealing that how it did before.
Because of the improvements like changing the thickness of the band it feels much more comfortable this is only from the model though and this affect might not be carried on during production however I think there is still room for improvement
This design is much better than the other one because you have changed all the main flours in it but some of there modifications might be to hard to complete however if they are the band will be very functional and a good product that I would be very happy to buy.

How does it do this?
I have given it an 8 because the band does come off and on with ease this means it does for fill the function needed. However there is still room for improvement with I think I can achieve by mixing this idea with other ones
The rang of materials that are used in the band has been expanded to include to metal and leather. This is a good thing because the band has needed the main material change because it was bad for the environment and not very comfortable. It is also much stronger that the old material the only down side is that it cost much more but the durability and functionality will be worth it.
The materials that the new idea is made out of is more environmentally friendly because it uses less oil. However the new materials that are used in the new band are not completely environmentally friendly. For example the leather that will be use has to come from a cow or other animal these animals produce a large amount of carbon dioxide and need a large amount of food. The metal that is use is also very hard to extract from the earth and in the process large amounts of land are destroyed
From the feed back I got from the thickness testing, people said that the new material was much better that the old one because it feels more natural on the skin this is why the mark is so high.
Because of the different patterns that I have come up and implemented in to the idea the band is much more aesthetically appealing says some people in my market study. This must mean the band better looking from when I started
Because of all the improvements the price of the band has increased much more than I would have expected this is because of new components costing a lot more. However the band is much more durable and will cost lots less than buying a new on every time it brakes. This is why it is ok to exceed the limitations I set in my specification however this does mean that I will have to keep the high production cost in mind when making my final idea
The main safety risk with this idea was the sharp metal tong on the buckle, that scratched the user and the strap hole. This was solved by using a stronger copper tong that did not get sharpen by the buckle when in use this also made the was safer to store dater on because the holes didn't get cut though the band stayed on more securely.
MORAL ISSUES 6/10
Morally the band is better than the original because the materials are more sustainable than oil. This is not including the USB that still need rare materials that are not sustainable mind or collected. However because it is made out of leather some people wont use it like vegans because they believe that the use of animal skin for clothing is not morally correct. Even though it is much better for the environment.
The idea behind this band is having an easy way of taking off and on my band however it still being comfortable and durable in sport or exercising environments. This is achieved by the innovative pin hold technology and its smart theaters.
by reducing the length of the part I will be able to attach it too the band without the user being affected by the part. Because I have reduced the size of the part the band comes undone more easily this is because the part is shorter so there is less to pull out.

This makes the band much less functional and a different solution is needed. Another way to solve it would to 2 different parts that stick in to holes this way the parts can be short and because there are two it means it has the same if not more strength to stay together.

Solution 2: will have lots of different holes in the band in a line about 2-3 cm apart so that the band can be adjusted this problem is much like another problem that I had in a different band so I will repurpose the band so that I don’t waist more materials than necessary.
Problem 1: Function of fitting band
The way the band is fastened on is very un-functional this Is because the part that sticks out to go though the hole irritates the users wrist. Making the band unwearable.
Note: because of problem one band will have to have 2 sets oh hole drilled in to it
Making the holes the right size and in the right place is difficult because the holes need to be the exact size otherwise the band does not stay together or the band will stay together to well and the user struggles to operate the band without pulling really hard.
Problem 2: Ergonomics of band with different wrists
There is no adjustability with this band meaning that people with smaller of larger wrist cant wear the band at all. This is a problem because it means that a large amount of the market cant operate the product.

Problem 3: Cost of upgrading the USB
The storage space of the USB cant be increased and when it is full files will have to be deleted or moved. For some user the amount of space on the band may be to small and they might find this challenging too overcome especially if they are using it to move large power points around like this one.
Solution 3: Too solve this problem I will have too change the USB there is nothing else I can do because the original USBs space cant be increase by tampering also this would be a very large and time consuming task that could be solve by buying a now larger USB.
Problem 4:Duadility of the Inlet
The part of the band that fits in to the hole is to weak and in all of my models the part has been pulled off or has snapped in to two parts. This mean the hole band is unusable and must be repaired.
Problem 5: Ergonomics of how the band feels
The material the band is made of is like I have said in my other deigns very uncomfortable. The way I have solved it before was to change the material the band was made of however is very expensive and I think there is a cheaper way of doing it.
If I were to upgrade the USB that I have it will cost a lot more because there are expensive to way up the pros and cons I will make a table to compare them.
On my analysis of other products page there where other products that had larger storage spaces however they where smaller than the USB that I'm using.

Because the user may want to use the band whilst exercise it being strong is very important and must be able to withstand being pulled and stretched. The strap is to long meaning that it is uncomfortable for the user too use the band also it means that the band comes undone very easily. Making it hard for the user too use the band for exercising because it comes of with small movements

I think that the way that it stays on your wrist is good but I really don’t like that the band is so plain. I wish there was a way to customize it although the way it looks plain might appeal to other people.
I'm afraid that the bit that goes in to the band is going to be really annoying because it looks like it will go straight in to my wrist. And I don’t like that there's no adjustability because if I lend it to a friend he or she cant use it.
I have very large hand and I think that the band will fit me however thing that I really like about the band is that it looks really easy take off and on this is a really important to me because I have sensitive wrist.
Problem 8: Function of the holes size
because of the small holes it is hard for the user to quickly put the band on and off this is connected with the other problem with the band being to easy to pull apart because the hole and part that goes in to the hole are to small.
by testing the material though modelling I will get a better understanding of what will be good to use to get maximum durability with maximum comfort.
Solution 4: by changing the material the part that sticks in too the hole is made of too some thing more durable but still not totally hard because the users wrist will be harmed if there was something really hard in the band.

I have decided that the material that would work the best is ???? This is because it is cheap and works functionally in the position that it is in.
Solution 5: because to changing the material is expensive I have decided to instead make a padded layer on the inside that will make it more comfortable for the user and keeps cost down.
The pad will need to be comfortable but not restrictive I though the use of my model think I know what this requires. The pad size is and what they are made of are the two most important factors that determine the of function of the pad and whether it is effective at its job.
When I was making the pad I kept the pad against myself and determining where the changes where better or not. This was a very time consuming exercise and because I had to keep braking to test the model.

Note: I also used lots of other pulps to test the pad to see what they likes and didn't so that I could adjust it to what they like this was however very difficult because the verity of different answers I got was too large for me to make a pad that worked well if every body. So I started responding to the most common answer only.
Solution 6: like I said is solution 5 to change the material that the band is made out of will be very expensive this so in the pad or inside the band I will make a frame to re-enforce the band this frame might be harm full.
To make the band stronger I will add a frame the down side of this may be that the frame gets irritating because it will be made out of fine wire that could come though the band and cut the wrist. Also I'm not sure on how much heavier this will make the band.
Also the proses of getting the wire inside of the band may make it weaker because I will have too cut the band in two sideways so that I can put the wire inside and then seal it up by using glue. This may also affect the astatic look of the band because there will be a line from the cut.
I will find the average wrist band size by researching in books like ????/ this is important because if I don’t find the right amount the band would be ether unusable for people with larger wrist or people with smaller wrist will have large irritating straps that are un-needed.
Solution 7: by finding the average size of the users wrist I will know what the normal size of the band will need to be and then by how much it should be able to expand by for the band to be able to fit the most amount of people with minimal waist on unneeded materials on the strap.
Because there is no fiddly watch strap or complicated method of strapping the band together the score is high. This is also because the band can be easily pushed though the band and
There is a much larger variety of different material used in this band, from wire to soft padding material. I think this for fills the requirements of the specification very well. This is without using to may and over complicating the design.
The pad on this band will make it really easy for the band to be used by the user. This is because the feel of the band is less restrictive and can be adjusted to sort the specific size of the band and make sure that the band can be changed so the user can change it also if there are doing a different task like running and need the band to be less tight. They can do it.
Because of the large amount of additional materials that I have used the price that I have estimated will go up extensively like I said in my other spec against design the price will affect the amount of sale however the product is more luxuries so the price can be higher and so there is less sales but more money made from each of them. This is why the material cost is not an issue because the it is not so high that people wont buy it.
Because of the large amount of padding in the band the wrist is actually slightly protected from indurates or sprains. There are lots of different small safety problems with this design

This band Is arguable the most moral because of its simple push and pull method of being used there are a lots of different groups of disabled people that this band will be able to be used by because the band extends to more then average sizes also there is a pad on the inside so that if people have sensitive wrists can use the band without problem. The materials that go in to the band are also less damaging to the environment because there is no metal apart from the USB.
Solution 8: in the model I have made the same problem that the holes are ether to large or too small still happens too solve this I will do something like what I did in another design with is to add metal rims to the holes.

Problem 1: Ergonomics and materials against the skin
The Velcro strips are very irritating against the users skin this is a problem because the band is very uncomfortable to were and can scratch the skin making makes that take days to heal.
Because velcro is such a cheap and easy to use material I decided that I should use it as a joining methods in an idea for my band. Factors that encouraged my to do this is that it works very efficiently in my design and could be so easily implemented in to manufacturing.
Problem 2: Ergonomics of the strips
The strips are hard to pull off and are also time consuming to pull off. Making it hard to use quickly and effectively this makes the band less effective at fulfilling it purpose instead of just having a USB without a band
Because there is more space ether side of the Velcro it means that there is less chance of the Velcro making contact with the skin of the user this will make the band much easier to take of and on faster and whilst playing much less attention when doing it
Problem 3: aesthetically and functionally
When strapping the band back together the straps often don’t line up making the band sit aesthetically and functionally wrong on the users wrist this is a problem because it takes a long time to accurately line them up and wear there band making is less easy to use the product.
Solution 2: by having small handles on the ends of the straps that the user can use to pull the straps with more force than normal but with less effort the band will be easier to use
The handles will be made from metal because they need to be strong and small so that they do not hinder the user when they are wearing the band. Because they will be made out of metal it means that they will cost more then if they where made from plastic however the plastic will not be as strong or durable enough.
Problem 4:Durability of the band
Because the strapping method is Velcro lots of different materials will stick too the band making the Velcro less efficient at holding the band together however this also makes the band look much less appealing because the different materials that stick to the band like string are different colours which the user might not like.
However is it was made from plastic it would be much litter and easier to manufacture because plastics are easier to model.
Problem 5: the cost of the materials
The ergonomics of the band are very different from varies users because the feel and sounds that Velcro is very uncomfortable to some users this would make it very unlikely that they would purchase it in a store.
Solution 3: this problem is also solved by solution one because having more distinction between band and Velcro may help some users to see where the strap needs to rest.

Problem 6: safety of stored files
If the user undergoes exercise whilst using the band the Velcro straps become very week because of moisture from sweat being obscured in to the strap. And in an environment of exercise the band will experience more strain on the joint. This makes it more likely to be pulled off or too fall off the wrist of the user this could lead to the band getting damage or the USB and files which are stored in it.
Another way of dealing with this problem would be to have the part that the velcro sticks on to in a small dip so that it can't even get close to the skin however this would make the band much more bulky and would increase material cost
Problem 7: material and hygiene
Because the Velcro straps absorbs sweat the band can release unwanted odes that may cause most uses to stop using the band and because the band is not washable the band will become unusable and unwanted. This is also a hygiene problem because the sweet could be carrying pathogens.
Whilst the band has a very good rang of adjustability if the user has an abysmally large wrist it may mean that on the inside of the band there is a section of the Velcro strapped exposed to the skin this is only if the users wrist are very large however the band must be inclusive to all users so the problem must be resolved.
If I did use the idea from solution 3 it would greatly reduce the amount of material that would get caught in the band however there is no way too stop this completely.

I like that there is a lot a adjustability because not much stuff fits me well and that the uses of Velcro in this design is very good however I'm really not a fan of Velcro because the way it feels on my skin is literally the worst but apart from that I like this idea.
I'm concerned that the band is too plain and that your missing out an a big chants to attract customers using the space on the side of the band although the plain look is slightly appealing and simple. My next point is that Velcro is very strong and a good material to make a joint out of this also means that it will be harder for them to get it off and on easily and fast.
I don’t like the idea because the straps look too hard to put on accurately without it making it really irritating to wear and use. Also the amount of stuff that would get caught on the Velcro when I'm using it would be annoying because I would have to pull all the stuff off it
Solution 4: I cant think of a solution to this problem because the material itself naturally does this and if I stopped it from having this aspect it would mean that the Velcro would not stick to the other Velcro and would be pointless

Because the material cant be changer I will have to be reach in to different materials that could be used in stead of the Velcro one of these are is Ni- Mn -Ga which is a memory alloy which transforms from the cubic high temperature phase to thermoplastic martensitic and undergoes a magnetic transition during cooling. This basically means that the metal works like Velcro apart from it is silent .
Solution 5:There is no way to make the band sound or feel different this is because the material naturally makes this sound and to stop it would make the material useless.
The only problem with the Ni- Mn -Ga is that it is really expensive and would be hard to implement because it is large also it need a heavy magnet. There is also the p roblem with the materials being experimental and there being possible problems like it causing irritation.
Solution 6: too stop the band from absorbing the sweat I will make it so that the Velcro is in an indent and the sides have a small lip to stop the sweat from flowing in and making it so that the band is slightly water resistant around the straps
Another way would too make it so the band has waterproof Velcro/industrial Velcro this will be more expensive but it has up to 2x more strength this has its advantages and disadvantages because it will be 2x as hard for the user to pull off the straps. The amount the Velcro cost is only 20p more expensive too this is a small amount however it might not be necessary if the first point works well.

Solution 7:this problem is half solved by solution 6 this is because most of the sweat is prevented from being absorbed. This however means that the band still has a small amount of absorption and will still release odes
The solution to this is to make it so the USB can be removed from the band and the rest of the band can be hand wash this will mean that the band can be wash and the odes will be prevent.

Solution 8: by extending the material that is under the band in contact with the skin it will mean that not mater how large the wrist is the Velcro will not be in contact with the skin. However this will mean there are more material and this will in crease the weigh and material cost.

I think that the part being extended by 4 or 5 cm will be enough because it will mean that I'm not over using material but there is another to be carry out the job that it is needed for.

I can see the points I made about the Velcro being in contact with my skin have been taken in too account and the band seems to stop it from touching me but it still doesn't stop sound the Velcro makes which I don’t like because it’s a really off-putting thing too me.

Where candidates choose to annotate their ideas sheets, they must make it clear which specification points are being cross-referenced. Colour highlighting can help in this respect.
Testing of final developed idea (suggest 2 x A3/PP)
Plans and implements an appropriate method or system to formally test and evaluate their final developed idea, or the suitability of materials, components or ingredients. Real-time results are presented clearly and concisely.
Testing should be planned
If possible the final outcomes should be used by others – allowing questions to be posed on the outcome and the improvements that have been introduced through the project.
Scientific tests covers a multitude of opportunities depending on the actual product or proposed materials
Planning testing and subsequently estimating what the expected outcomes will be is a worthwhile introduction and is highlighted in the mark scheme.
A hands on approach to testing usually works best, many centres have interactive videos with candidates openly discussing their product whilst others actually use it and respond positively and negatively.
Materials testing can be used to further the understanding of candidates, particularly if they think through predictions of how they may or may not respond under different conditions or circumstances.
Middle band responses generally have superficial questionnaires or generic commentary that gives the feel of simply going through the motions.
Lower band for candidates who rely on either just talking about their product without actually testing it at all.
Summary of Results (8) (suggest 1/2 x A3/PP)
Candidates should analyse test results thoroughly and summarise the results of their prototype development.
One further possible improvement to the product should be suggested and presented in detail.

For marks in the top band all three areas need to be considered
Analysis that is fair, open and does not simply state the positives is where we see the best work from candidates.
