Injuries in teenage athletes increase everyday despite products and remedies to prevent them. The extensively conducted research and final project contains a proposal in which a diagram will be constructed displaying the human body parts and how different types of bones are injured. The diagram is displaying a skeleton type layout and researching the composition of the human body. “Whether your treatment involves surgery or not, rehabilitation plays a vital role in getting you back to your daily activities. A physical therapy program will help you regain your quality of life,” (Nolan).
The physical therapy field has many different avenues and therapist often portray the pros and cons with selecting the profession. Sports therapy has become increasingly popular due to younger children participating in year round sports and events. When looking at most cases, athletes work through the pain and end up injuring themselves more. “Athletes who participate in high demand sports like soccer, football, and basketball are more likely to injure their anterior cruciate ligaments,” (America Fitness).
“Maryland State school board has adopted a new policy involving concussions and head injuries in young athletes. During practices, the school board has made coaches limit contact and make special accommodations for injured athletes,” (America School and University). Coaches and therapist have always helped students injured, but their new process has made rehabilitation more efficient (America School and University). Many schools change procedures every year in dealing with injuries and rehabilitating athletes. Most coaches and staff are informed of important procedures when an athlete is injured. For example, if an athlete has a neck injury, staff knows not to move this athlete until paramedics arrive. There are many procedures in place to ensure the athlete is give the best care. When pursuing a career in the field of Physical Therapy, one should like working with people, but most importantly, know the best program for a person to regain their full potential.
“Many athletes’ conduct their practices and performances in an overwhelming measure with an absence or scarcity of fluids, leading to crucial injuries. This specific article talks about a star track hunter, who after winning the 300, tore her tendon in her hip so bad she could not even walk,” (Kuzma). Many sports now are year round and children, teens, and adults are playing without resting. These ligaments and muscles are overused. When working out, lighter weight can be a lot more efficient in improving bone strength (Lift Light for Stronger Bones).
A licensed Physical Therapist can work with many different age groups in the area of home health, schools, or athletic functions. In reading, many therapists enjoy home health if they like to set their own schedule. Some therapist like to be in the schools working with children, and some enjoy more rehabilitation in sports. One therapist stated, “she loves the challenge of watching regain their life back,” (Pascoe).
There are many success stories written by Physical Therapist. Rehabilitation is the key component to people living the quality of life they want. An article told about a patient with cerebral palsy. This article talks about a nine-year-old who cannot walk due to the disease. Her grandma said she has high hopes that she will someday have the ability to walk (Cerebral palsy patient needs P88K for treatment). Therapists are doing all they can to see the boy walk again, and they have confidence in all of his progress that he will. With a strict schedule and plan, the boy has overcome obstacles that the doctor said would not happen. One therapist said, if the patient is motivated, the skies the limit (Cerebral palsy patient needs P88K for treatment).
A licensed Physical Therapist requires a Master’s Degree and the starting salary ranges from 50,000 – 80,000. With the year round sports and children starting sports so young, there will always be Physical Therapist needed. There is a deep knowledge of Science needed for this degree and a love for people. An important aspect of Physical Therapy is the relationship between a therapist and their patient. It takes a lot of patience and willingness to work together (Vogel).
