CAMPOREE 2016: Wild About CAMP!
Saturday May 21st – Sunday May 22nd
What is a Camporee?
A camporee is a FUN Girl Scout event for all registered girl scouts in the Five Nations Service Unit. It takes an extensive amount of planning and organization, but it is a great experience for Girl Scouts at every age level to enjoy the outdoors, make new friends, eat yummy s’mores, sing songs, create crafts, sit around a camp fire and enjoy an overnight camping experience.
When and Where is this camporee?
Our camporee will begin on Saturday morning, May 21st and end Sunday morning, May 22nd. The event will take place at YMCA Camp Hough in Silver Springs, NY. It consists of cabins with electricity, a kitchen and dining hall, and numerous outdoor activities that are truly designed to make camping a wonderful experience!
What is the cost?
While the majority of this event is done with volunteers, there are still lodging fees, food, supplies and many extra goodies given to the girls. The cost for spending the night at this camporee is $25/girl. This covers the lodging fees, food and drink, all the outdoor activities, a camp t-shirt and a patch. The cost for attending for the day Saturday is $20/girl. Much of this event is paid for by the help of our Sausage Roast Fundraiser, so thank you!! There are a limited number of scholarships available for those with financial hardship. Please contact your troop leader if this is a concern.
How do I know if my child is ready to spend the night?
It is critical that parents of younger girls assess their child’s ability to sleep one night away from their parents in a different environment. We ask that parents consider the questions listed below and if the answer to any is no, seriously consider allowing their child to simply come for the day on Saturday (you will be responsible for your own transportation, but we can help arrange for carpooling) or staying overnight with your child. All parents are more than welcome to attend Camporee with your child. The cost for a parent is $15/adult, whether they are coming Saturday only or spending the night.
Has my daughter spent the night away from both parents?
Does my daughter enjoy the outdoors, with no extreme fear of noises, darkness, bugs, etc.?
