Dear Judges, My name is Lewis Simonson and I am currently an 18 year old senior at Etowah High School. One of my biggest goals this year was to accomplish tasks as a student as well as an athlete and I believe I did just that. For almost my entire life, I have been playing the sport of basketball and this year was just like every other. Basketball is probably one of my biggest passions in my life whether it is playing the game or just watching it live or on television. For my senior project, I made a documentary on the life of a student athlete. The topic of my paper was The History and Technological Advancements in Film. What I researched included how and when film was started, what they used, how they did it and what they would do with the final product. I went on to talk about the advancements in the film industry such as the editing process and the type of cameras and recorders that were used to film. It came across that things started to change very quickly in the early 1900’s. All of the things I learned throughout this process helped me with this project because it gave me an insight in to the film industry and what I would have to do to make a meaningful product. The product I created was a documentary on my life, and the teams, as a student athlete. It includes everything from before the season, during the season, and following the season. It highlights what it means to be a student athlete and gives an inside perspective on what someone would experience as one. It relates to my research paper solely on the fact that my research paper helped me understand how to use my materials as well as it explained why I used what I used. Some obstacles I overcame were time barriers as well as technical difficulties. Specifically, just things on the the video editing software. My paper and my product relate to the film pathway of being a video editor/producer. After finishing my product, I decided that it would just be a fun hobby. I have no plans in pursuing a career in the above mentioned career just due to the fact that I do not LOVE doing it, but I just LIKE do it. It is not something I could do for the rest of my life, it is just something that I would enjoy doing in my past time. However, I did learn a lot about myself which included that I want to continue to pursue a career in business and that I have a lot of patience. Finally, senior project took a lot of my time and consideration throughout the year. I am very blessed to be able to attend a school in which allows me to participate in something so fun and helpful to my future as this. Thank you for your time and consideration as well and I hope you enjoy my final product! Sincerely, Gordon Lewis Simonson III
