Marie Bartlett-Sloan you're average mother of three young girls, If there is one thing that she expels in it has to be sewing. Sewing has been a part of Marie's life since she was in her teens. Her first experience with sewing was when she was in her middle school home economics class. Before that both her mom and she would sew, but she never partook of it in her daily life. Since then she has partaken in many different clubs that are involved with it. It has been 40 plus years since she first held her first needle. The family's love of sewing takes alarming halt at Marie because as explained by Marie none of her daughters wish to join in on her love for sewing. Marie claims that she made sure that all three of her daughters at least knew the basic of sewing even if they do not take much interest as their mother.
When she is not working or spending time with her family; Marie likes to spend time sewing in her sewing room or their family basement where she keeps her older sewing machines. Some of the machines down in her basement could sell at price of a couple thousands of dollars. She spent about five hours a week sewing on her newest project. Lately Marie has been sewing many quilts; her newest project is sewing a quilt for a baby shower of one of her coworker. Sewing to her is a way to repay people in her life as well as to relieve stress , but if she ever gets too stress in middle of project she will leave it and come back to it later. Marie states "Never work on a project if you're getting too stress with it. Leave it for another time; if you mess with it you're going to make a mistake." While she steps away from the project she does some cleaning around the house or starts cooking to the relieve stress.
"Key thing you must know is what type of fabric is needed for the pattern if it is a pattern that needs a cotton fabric do not use a knit. Knits are meant to stretch to fit the body while cottons are stiffer. Most clothing people will buy at the store are knits." After telling this bit of information Marie explained that knits are one of the harder fabrics she works with. When asked if she would take her skills into a business one day; she explains that she only does it for herself and those she is close to. As well as she could not see it as a career for herself and only a hobby she partakes in.
With her many years of experience; Marie best work was a gift she gave to her sister as a wedding present. To get to Marie's level of skills; she claims that only after college did she start to get to a level of high experience. Marie's explains that one thing she tells herself every time she picks up a needle is "What am I going to learn today".
