Couch to 5k
Instructor: Charley Ingham
America: Land of the Big, Home of the Brave
America is officially the fattest nation on planet.
2/3 (68.8%) Of all adults are overweight
1/3 (35.7%) Of all adults are obese
Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Liver disease, Osteoarthritis, some types of cancer.
How do we fix this?
The main misconception is that it takes much time.
FALSE: 30 Minutes a day of aerobic activity will suit most people
Something needs to change.
My project focuses on going from couch to 5K.
I have never participated in a sport, never been physically active, and have never had the title of “fit”
Anybody can do it, and I am here to prove it.
But how do we get there?
Training consists of two primary parts:
Physical activity (Working out)
Nutrition (Healthier foods, vitamins and minerals)
It’ll take more than just will to get there.
Support from the people around you goes a long way!
Different events have different training procedures
Most importantly: You do You!
One Size Does NOT Fit All
The biggest thing I learned is – No, No, You’re doing it wrong!
There is much more to running than meets the eye, and most people are doing it wrong!
Depending on ambition, further training can lead to a career as a personal trainer, or Athlete, possibly even as high as the Olympian level.
But, after completing this Rigorous Learning Stretch, I think it would be in my best interest to remain fit, but pursue my original career plan as a Neurologist.
