My name is Eric Samuels. I am a star student, tech junkie, and aspiring Neurologist. My choice of Senior project is to train and run a 5K. I choose this project primarily because it was something far outside of my comfort zone. Something that I was never able to claim. Being physically fit.
The topic of my research paper pertains to the effects of supplements on the body. I researched how supplements, such as whey protein, vitamins, and other minerals found in supplements provide benefits when one is training or simply trying to be health-conscious. What I found is that most supplements, such as vitamin C and beta-carotene, provide subtle benefits when taken in appropriate amounts. When overdosed, however, these substances provide a litany of ill effects. Some mundane as nausea, while others as extreme as uncontrollable diarrhea. Whey, on the other hand, stands as an effective muscle-building supplement after the body has been under strain.
As for the relationship between my product and paper, the connection lies in how the two are intertwined. If I wish to perform and train at peak capacity, it is very important to address the smaller as well as larger components of my exercise routine. I faced many challenges on my way to completion. A few were small, like clearing out the exercise room, while some where larger, such as overcoming the pain of running with flat feet. Something that could only be overcome with brains, not more training. I did so by changing my stride when the pain became more pronounced.
My project and paper most directly relate to the career of personal trainer, but are also relatable in the medical field. Keeping fit and having knowledge of what can help keep you fit are undoubtedly helpful when pursuing a career related to the health of humans. What learned about myself from doing this project was mainly two things. One is that I very much do not like Shawn Mendes or any of his songs. The second thing is that I am built more for weights than I am for cardio. I felt good after cardio, but I felt impeccable after weights.
Finally, I find that Senior project was an ultimately rewarding experience, much different than stories of time sinks that I heard when I was a Sophomore and Junior. I appreciate you being the ones to give me final clearance to graduate, thank you for your time.
