Activity: When for a run/walk, mostly walk.
Commentary: God, I am out of shape. Really thought I could run for an hour. Not even close… At least it was a nice cloudless day.
Time Spent: 1 hour +/- 1 minute

Activity: Clearing out the crap in our exercise room
Commentary: Managed to get most of it out myself, except for the dresser and wooden furniture. Apparently, it is made from real wood and not plywood. Meaning it weighs a ton and I can’t move it myself.
Time Spent: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time Thus Far: 2 hours 30 minutes
January 3rd, 4:45 PM
Activity: Run/walk, again mostly walk
Commentary: Still out of shape, should consider getting new work-out shirts, they are pretty beat up and have my old middle school’s logo on them…

Activity: Finally recruited some help from my Dad to move the crap I couldn’t myself.
Commentary: Luckily, everything still works. Except for the Elliptical thing.

Activity: A 5K run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Maybe it’s not having to wear a coat this time around, or not being stared at by the neighbors, but for some reason I felt much better this time around. Tried to do a gradually intensifying with lulls in between type of workout. I was going to keep track in my head where I slowed down and sped up, but I lost track around the mile and a half mark. Only after putting this picture in my log do I realize how pronounced my cheekbones are. My god, they are almost like Angeline Jolie’s in Maleficent. Great movie, if you haven’t seen it, Google it.

Activity: A 2mi run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Wanted to work out today, but homework happened to get in the way. Can't exercise after dinner because that is pure stupidity, so instead of doing a stamina workout I went for the 2nd best option. Run as fast as you can to get to 2mi. Was then rewarded with some heavenly chicken parm sandwiches for dinner. Toasted Bun and all. Also very happy that I look a lot more heroic and a lot less vampire-ish in this picture than the last.

Commentary: Worked out today after a day of rest, got a new smartwatch (though it wasn't able to tell I was running) didn't quite know how to work it yet, so can't give better stats than what the treadmill gave me. Did get some good news however, turns out that my conversion from 5K to miles is not 3.5 but slightly lower at 3.1 miles. Not sure why I am making this expression in the picture. Maybe because the cowlick makes me look kind of crazy?

Activity: A 5mi run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Figured out how to work the new watch, and by god did it help me do my longest run to date. Though this is going to sound like a promotion for Samsung, it is not. I was not paid any money, nor have I forgotten about their Al-Qaeda endorsement. Still, having an accurate HR monitor very much helped me pace and not over-exert myself. Still can't believe I managed to do 5 miles in 1h 15min. Though I can believe I was dumb enough not to pay attention to the stupid expression I am making in this picture.
Time Spent: 1 hour 15 minutes

Activity: A 1hr run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Although this only happened 4 days ago, I really can remember much about it. I would be able to remember something about it if my smartwatch didn't have to FACTORY RESET just to connect to my phone. Honestly Samsung, what happened to you? First exploding phones, and now resetting watches? This is the exact reason why my next phone will not be a Samsung. Not when it comes with all these problems.

Commentary: Finally got the watch setup the right way, and got to listen to some music with my sick BeatsTM. I kind of messed up when running this time, I was keeping a good pace until a song got me really pumped up and I for some reason thought it ok to sprint. I could only do it for about 40 seconds before I can't breathe and see my heart is going 200+ bpm. Yeah, had to walk the rest of the way. And the treadmill reset itself when I had to take a break to catch my breath, so yeah. Have a watch pic.
Edit: After taking a second look at the beats box I see they happen to be made by Apple and do not support any other functions on Android phones other than call answer/end. Not even volume control. So they will be essentially useless when I get my Pixel. Great. Just great.

Commentary: My god, my memory is really bad. The only thing I can remember about this run was that only whiny Shawn Mendes songs were playing on iHeartradio and that I had significant trouble keeping the Beats in my ears. A double header of crap I despise. Need to get laundry done, starting to run low. As for the beats, don't buy. Too bassy and only worth it if you are 100% loyal to Apple.

February 8th, 6:24 PM
Activity: A (would be) 1hr and 15min run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Managed to hit that perfect pace I had a few days back. It was great. iHeart was playing good songs and I ditched the beats for my old reliable wired Samsung ones. Finally decided to look up why my feet hurt when I was running fast, and apparently it stems from ankle tendon strain. Which is caused by many things, bad shoes, running in one direction on the track, plain old ankle injury, or in my case flat feet. For some reason having no arches wreaks absolute hell on your feet. Gonna have to find a way to limit this without completely stopping or walking for 10min until I can run again. Also, didn't get to do the full 15min at the end because of dinner. Just plain raviolis. Filling, but nothing special.
Time Spent: 1 hour and 7 min

Activity: A run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: Didn't know how long I would have to run since I started this run later than usual. So I just told the watch I was running for as long as I can. Didn't do too bad, hit that good 5.4 mph pace that suites me. Finally figured out how to use iheartradio. Instead of swapping between a bunch of stations and getting slapped with a stupid ad every time, I just selected the "my favorites" station and listened to only the stuff I wanted to hear. It was even pretty good at guessing what I wanted to listen to. Also started looking at 5K's to run in the spring. Haven't picked anything out yet, but you know, it's not like I'm ready to run one right now.

Commentary: Tried to do a 1 hour run, but I was interrupted because we had to go get dinner. Looked up how to reduce the side cramping when running and taking deeper, bigger breaths, helps alleviate this pain. Missed a few of the past few days because dad said I could only work out after dinner. That really doesn't help when we eat late. I am not going to work out at 7:30 PM. That's too late, I'm full of food and just want to relax. My method is better. Would have got post-workout pic if I had not been interrupted and had to take a really quick shower.

Commentary: After about a month of serious busyness and straining my right foot, I finally find myself with enough time to actually work out. Did a speed test today. I needed to gauge how fast I could run the mile. The best time I managed to get was 9:30. My first try was slowed by needing to warm-up.

Activity: A run/walk on my treadmill. And time on the bike.
Commentary: I tried to run for a full hour, but my lower legs (calves and ankles) got so stiff and painful I just couldn't do it. It hurt too much. Instead I spent the remaining 40 minutes doing something productive but easy on my feet. I biked approx. 7 miles on the stationary bike in 40 minutes. My thighs burned afterwards, but it was worth it when my feet don’t hurt.

Commentary: I finally managed to reach my 35 min goal for a 5k. Used a different strategy to get there. Instead of running at a slower pace for a longer time, I ran at a fast past for a few laps than walked 1 recovery to run again. Spent the rest of the hour on the bike to get those thunder-thighs. By god, I just actually typed that.

Activity: A run/walk on my treadmill.
Commentary: I ran again today, wasn't able to reach the 35 min goal today. My lower leg pains got in the way. My time was around 39 min. Can't exactly remember it though since I am doing this entry on Friday (Just too lazy/busy to put it in right after) At least I got in a good workout.
Total Time Thus Far: 16 hours 48 minutes
March 17th, 6:00 PM
Commentary: I did it again! I don't know if part of it was good biorhythm or using my new strategy to manage my lower leg pain, but I did it! 32:27 The strategy I used was based on changing how my feet (specifically my right foot) strike the ground. The normal way I run is with a heel strike, but after 3 laps or so (at the very beginning of the run) my right foot begins to disengage and flop on the treadmill. I can tell because every step gets louder and it hurts more. Since this "flopping" takes more effort to go the same speed, I change my stride to a frontal strike, this allows the shin muscle that is used for foot articulation to rest and for duty to be swapped to my calf. Once my calf gets tired I go back to a heel strike. Rinse and repeat until I run out of breath and have to slow down. By using this method, I was able to run at a 6.4 mph pace for 2 miles straight. This is a eureka moment for me and I feel great! Of course, once I got tired I walked a one lap recovery (0.25 mi) at 3.4 mph. But still, 2 MILES CONTINUOS? P.S. If you missed why I set my target at 35 min here is the formula: Beginning mile time x3 + 5 minutes for endurance oriented pace = 5K Time target
(10 min x3 + 5 minutes for endurance pace) = 35 minutes

Commentary: Managed to get under 35 min again on the second day. Now that I am able to consistently get under 35 min in controlled conditions, all I have to do is make sure I can get under this in a real run. I you were wondering why the previous few entries have had no pictures, it is because my phone went for a swim. This time I asked my dad to take the pictures.

Commentary: Ran for about .75 mi until I realized my throat felt like it was on fire with every breath I took. As I am writing this the day after, I can confirm that I am sick. A cold with a wicked fever. Woke up at 3 AM last night and had to take 2 ibuprofen to tame the fires. Felt groggy and under-the-weather all day. I hope this doesn't last for long, I have a 5K to run on Saturday!

Activity: Cough, *Clears throat*, Medicate, repeat.
Commentary: I really am worried about this sickness. Not the severity, just that it is par for the course that I happen to get sick the week before my 5K. Never mind my resilience against the sweeping stomach flu and my brother's strep infection that swept through the house all winter. But god forbid the common cold comes my way. I have a hard enough time running sub 35 5K in full health, I don’t have any chance of doing it when breathing burns my throat and I can't breathe through my nose. I really hope this clears up. Sooner rather than later.

Activity: Kickstarting Run
Commentary: I finally feel well enough to start running again (hopefully just in time for the race). I gradually got my speed up to a speed walk and focused on my breathing for 50 min. After that, I ran the last 10. This should be just what I needed to get back into the swing of things.

Commentary: Well, looks like being sick didn't take too much of a toll on my physical ability. I managed to run the 5k in just under 35. (34:30 to be exact) And take a cooldown afterwards. Maybe this is one of those "stars aligned" sort of moments, or maybe I am just that good. Whatever the case may be, I hope I can repeat this on Saturday.

Commentary: Never mind about yesterday, I just can't make up my mind. I managed to get a pretty good time today, (32:40) I used a very odd method to get there. I started at my slowest running pace (6 mph) and increased the speed by .1 every 30 seconds for the first 3 min and then every 1 min after that. I found out my maximum speed was 7.4 mph. I tried to limit myself to 1 lap/ 3 min breaks. I took would try and take the run at quarter mile increments. It worked out pretty well.

Commentary: Final run today. Decided to run the full amount of a 5K instead of just the general 3.1 miles. The extra 0.04 miles didn't affect my time. Looks like all is good and I am ready to go. Hopefully running on real terrain will not be my downfall.
EDIT: turns out that the race was actually on the 9th, not the 8th, so I woke up at 5:30 AM for no reason. Instead I had to help dad clean out the garage and dump all of our old stuff for Canton dumpster days. Too bad our house is right outside the Canton city limits, instead we had to pay money to dump our stuff.

Commentary: This is it! The final run! All these months of training have finally come to this! What lies at the end of this race is more than just the completion of a project. No, for all intents and purposes what lies at the end of that race is my high school diploma and the first steps on a new journey. Even with all the hills in my way, I pushed on. Feet don't fail me now!
