June 3rd 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Taking pictures for research and documentation of the traffic on the
5-75 interchange at Townlake. I used these pictures to help me find the problems with the 675 interchange.
This was a frustrating process. The traffic was terrible trying to get on the highway or going into downtown Woodstock. It would even be backed up all the way back to the Quicktrip gas station about half a mile away from the interchange.
These pictures are the ones I took to document traffic. (I did not take them while driving, a friend took them from t passenger seat while I drove.)
12:00pm – 3:00pm
Working with my senior project facilitator on planning to redesign the 5-75 interchange at Townlake. We discussed ideas and thoughts on the plan to redesign the interchange. We narrowed it down to two different interchanges, the clover leaf, and the single point diamond. I chose the single point diamond because it used less land and we could fit it in the space already available.
I had fun doing this. I got to learn about a lot of ways to design an intersection and I got to plan the best way to redesign the 5-75 interchange.
In these pictures, me and my project facilitator are working on designing the interchange and brainstorming ideas
10:00am – 4:00pm
Working on my product using Google Sketch up. I worked on the basic structure of the interchange, things such as the shape of the roadways and the inclines.
I enjoyed doing this. Being able to see my design take shape as a 3d model was cool. During this time, I worked on creating the underside of the split diamond interchange.
I am working on basic structure of the interchange.
4:00pm – 6:00pm
Working on my design, during this I lined up the roadways and made everything proportional.
This process was slightly frustrating because I had to make sure the lights and the roadways lined up correctly, if they were not correct it looked odd and threw off the interchange.
After I lined up the road ways the interchange finally looked good.
12:00pm – 4:00pm
Finishing my product on google sketch up. I added the lines in the roadway, I took away excess as well as added in more accurate depictions of the support structures of the interchange.
During this period, I worked on the little details, such as the lines on the road and I took away some of the excess I had. This took a while because I had to make sure everything was right.
I am using the schematics to check all the details

3d printing my product
This was a cool thing to watch. I got to 3d my product instead of just having it on the computer.
