To all my friends who like magic and madness. Love you all. 4 Introduction For many years, I’ve been practicing what I think it’s the most valuable thing we’ve got in life: the knowledge. I always did everything by my own, and that’s why I’ve become what I meant to be: a boy who loves his family and friends, chasing his dreams and mainly, doing his best. The world is full of violence, tragedies are happening all the time, that’s why I’m here: to bring you some kind of distraction, a trip to the fantasy we look for every day when we wake up. When I was younger, my friends would say that I was such a good writer, and my stories full of imagination and crazy things I used to write were praised by them, mainly in school. I’d never imagined myself writing something this big. Anyway, now that it’s done, I hope I will not disappoint you. The story you’re about to read came to me like sparks the other day, and then it became flames once I started to write it. Can’t deny that I’m massive fan of J. K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, George R. R. Martin, Suzanne Collins, John Green, etc. Their books have inspired me in so many ways. The “geek” stuff, you know. But that’s what I love to be 5 doing, this is who I really am. And it has worked out pretty well so far. The protagonist, Robert Lancer (a.k.a. Rob), is a typical boy of our time, although the adventure takes place in the 80’s. He’s searching for the truth about the tragedy that marked his life so badly: his mother’s death. But there’s something greater than you may think, and he’s not alone. He’s getting all the help he needs to figure this out. I really hope you’ll enjoy this travel and I’d like you to share this if you want. I’d also recommend you one more thing: In the end of this book, there’s a playlist. I’ve chosen a single song to every chapter carefully, and I’m pretty sure that they match. Whatever, just in case you’re a big fan of rock/pop songs, don’t forget to check that out, too. Everything works better with music. That’s all guys. Have an amazing reading! Suddenly , the noisy wind seemed scare even more that poor boy. He used to read bunch of ghost stories, monsters and many other nighty creatures that were always looking for lost kids, to pick and carry them beyond the unknown mountains, miles away from that city. Flashes of the worst moment of his life, when he saw his lovely mother being killed by a mysterious man dressed in black clothes with a gun and screaming insanely, came to him like a horror movie. Robert Lancer was a teenager, but his appearance was unusual for a kid at that age. Unlike most people in school, parties and drinking were not part of his life. He pretty much loved and took care of Claire, his only and I 8 twin sister who stayed at home while he was out. It was on her where he focused his mind in situations like that. “I need to return, I promised it.” – He cried inside. Unfortunately, that seemed impossible. Rob realized that anyway, the city could never be the place he’d like to live in. His life in Ghostcity wasn’t the best. People kept always the doors closed, any smile was shown on their faces. Days and nights of pure fear, shadows and a gray atmosphere was the only thing to see there. Later that day, he went downtown to buy some things Claire needed, over three kilometers away. She was very sick and barely could say a word. After leaving the pharmacy, thunder and lightning announced that a huge storm was about to come over, so he ran the faster but 9 he couldn’t reach the bus. Almost 10 p.m., he was alone. No bus would pass. The cemetery was located a few meters from him, and he was scared of what could happen to him if he passes by. A minute later, weird sighs started busting his ears and he became desperate. "What am I supposed to do now? Run? Yell? Call someone? Who? My Mom? Even if I wish, I can’t. She’s dead.” - He thought. Happiness was not a word Rob was used to, because everything had been lost until then. His father had left them by the time they were just six, and he never found out what happened in past, but even if he searched for him, the chances were few. Family now was just he and Claire. Their relatives lived in another country, far away from Ghostcity and nothing, nothing had he known about them, neither they were okay, nor they were alive. The last mail he had from them said that his Grandma had passed away, the only person who still called them sometimes, mainly on the Christmas’ day, when the winter would bring the snow and in couple of hours, everything was covered on ice. He still had memories of they both making snowballs and throwing at each other. Good things they’ve been through. How he missed all of this. Now, the darkness turned his life into a hell, where he didn’t know what to do. Apparently, there was no way out. 1 0 Perhaps the future held something better, a hopeless place like that sucked their young lives, as the years flew. They were now sixteen, too young to die, though he was fully convinced that this would happen very soon. Would be Claire feeling the taste of death already? How long would her disease last for? He feared. “No. If one of us has to die, then that should be me. I could not handle it.” After all, he continued to run, wishing Claire was fine. Cats hid from him when he turned to the last corner before the main street. He had no idea where he was supposed to go. The pouring rain was falling upon him, and every breath he took seemed to explode his lungs. - SHIT! - He shouted when his feet sank onto a mud puddle. He’d never been in such danger, that was the first time he’d got lost in his own city. No one would help him, even if he screamed as loud as he could, those thunders would muffle his voice. Nothing could make that night worse. In a cold sweat, his steps echoed in the dark and a little light at the end of Braze Avenue was the last hope for him. Unfortunately, he didn’t know where he was getting himself into. 1 1 Chap. 2 DON’T TRUST anyone fter arriving and pounding on the gate, a shadow of a woman covered the light. Then he heard a sound of keys and chains shaking and a little door opening. He had to take that shot. - Who’s that? I can’t see your face. - said the woman. - Help, please. My name is Rob and I think I’m lost. I was headed to home when this whole storm began. I can’t take one more second out here. It’s too cold. Please Lady, let me in. - How could I know if you’re not a thief? - If I were a thief, a gun would probably be pointed at your head right now, isn’t it? - Yes, I guess so. Wait a minute. I’m picking an umbrella for you. She was a pretty woman though, but something told Rob to not trust her. By the way, that was a fancy house, with golden tables, diamond-covered chandeliers, lit up A 1 2 silvered candles, and a little cat slept quietly in a sofa full of precious stones. - Well, I’m Angela. I live here since my husband, Peter, passed by. - She said, after they both have sat down on stunning golden chairs, which made Rob wonder for a second: "What would a beautiful, single and rich lady be doing in this strange city? Is she crazy?" - I’m so sorry for your lost. However, can you tell me what made you change from your city? I’m here since I was born and only God knows how suck this place is, too many homicides, deaths and catastrophes, also the stories about diabolic witches... - Do you want a cup of tea? It will keep you hot. - Angela interrupted - Let me tell you something Rob. Do you really know witches? How can you call us diabolic when you are just a kid and do not even know anything about life? - Wait, what? What do you mean by “us”? - Rob surprised - Are you telling me you’re a witch? What are you going to do to me? Cut my head off? Burn me? – He suddenly got up from the chair. - Me? Nothing kid. I’m one of the good witches. We just show up with our real face when it’s necessary, but it has been a long time since our last battle against the bad witches. When you are a witch, you have to be always 1 3 prepared because the war simply doesn’t have an ending. Once, in the bloodiest battle we have ever had, we lost thousands of good witches, and now, we don’t know how or when will be the next. I just warn you this: don’t trust anyone. I believe... Out of a sudden, the gate of the house started bouncing hardly back and forth, so that Angela ran to close the window. But it was too late. Scary shadows got quickly into her room and turned all the lights out. - Rob! Rob! They’re here! THEY’RE HERE! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! - Angela screamed at the top of her lungs. Bullets kicked off the walls and broke the windows. - Who are they? Where are you Angela? Talk to me! - Rob shouted back afflicted. He had no idea of what was going on. Perhaps he already had. Witches were real. Evil was real. However, he was under the golden table when he heard the last sound from Angela. A terrible scream of death. They came to kill her. Nothing else. She was just a nice woman, despite being a witch. How many people had died that night? The city was a death field. Every day was a battle to everyone, and now, Angela had lost hers. She’d been trying hard to stay alive but the future was unpredictable. Rob was astonished, running out of air while the shadows vanished out one by one through those broken 1 4 windows. After all, he kept hidden and silent, laid down on the floor until the sun gives him a sign of life. Chap. 3 1 5 A LITTLE GROWN WOMAN he was sleeping like an angel in his bedroom when he came home early that morning. Her face looked like a sad girl about to cry, but he was relieved to see Claire was okay. He still could hear Angela screaming, and those dark shadows moving upside down into that house. All he wanted was to forget the terrible scene, but that was very difficult. He glanced at some photos over the bedside table. How could he lose his parents so early? The smile on their faces, the beauty of the place, and petals of flowers flying in a springtime full of good moments they had enjoyed together. All these memories contrasted with his current situation in that horrible city. - They’re looking at us, wherever they are. - A weak voice came from his bed. – I believe that one day we will see them again. - Of course. I believe in it, too. – He said. – How are you doing? – He searched for the pills in his pocket. - I’m better. You spent too much time away, so I made a tear and the flu went out. Thanks for nothing, Rob. I forgive you, anyway. S 1 6 - I’m sorry, I got lost in the storm and couldn’t find my way back home. I’m happy to see you as well. Very well, though. – He said after Claire gets up from bed. – That means you can go to school. So, hurry up, I’ll make our breakfast. - Ugh, last time you cooked I almost threw up Rob. You’re so bad at this. – She said with a crooked smile. Rob actually loved that mood sense. - Hey girl, we don’t have Mommy here anymore, and I guess you don’t want to starve like the skeleton right there, do you? – Rob pointed to a paint on the wall, which had a big and phantasmagoric skeleton looking through the wall. - Are you trying to scare me? Uuuuh… - She shook her body in a “ghosty” move. - I’m a grown woman, in case you haven’t realized yet. By the way, we’ve got the same age. - Oh really? Hahaha. Stop talking; let’s go down “woman”. Only you to make me laugh. Come on. Dress your uniform. – Rob said as he left the bedroom. – I’m waiting for you downstairs. Don’t be too long “woman”. - No longer than you did “man”. – she responded to him with a fake smile. Actually, she was the only person in his life who he would fight for, because now there was only her. The most important thing for him was to keep her safe. Ghostcity 1 7 was not a good city for them, but that situation demanded something to happen, and one way or another, he would later be the person to bring back the justice and peace, those people expected that. - The bus is waiting for you, Claire. Hurry up! - I know. I’m coming. – said the girl, now putting a red lipstick. – Bye brother, see you later. She has changed. Now he saw it clearly. Although Rob were just a few seconds older than Claire, she would always be his youngest sister. Chap. 4 1 8 WHISPERS OF DEATH “I understand you… It’s the destiny Rob. I can save your life… Meet me at midnight at the Black Garden Cemetery; don’t make me wait too long. Once again, I’m the only one who can save your life. Just trust me… From an old friend.” Rob found that note underneath the door, after he wakes up and waits for Claire to get back from school. "What is this? Who knows me enough to send this thing to my house? I guess nobody can save my life unless me by myself." - He stopped for a minute when Claire got into home. - So, what happened? – The first thing she said. - Your face is horrible. - Nothing, I just have to solve some things tonight. - I’m coming with you... I promise I’ll be quite, and help you anyway. I'm tired of being home alone, it’s too boring. Please Rob... Please. - Right, are you ready for your first adventure in Ghostcity at night? - Of course. I'll show you how brave I can be, too. 1 9 He knew that was a huge risk, Claire was not prepared yet. But even if he said “no” a thousand times, she would insist until he lose his mind. - We're leaving at 11:30 p.m. Get ready. The Moon was huge that night, and the snow fallen slowly from the grey clouds. Claire held Rob’s hand hardly while they walked towards the cemetery. All the houses had doors shut, and there was only a red car parked in front an old cottage. It was like a replay of the night before for Rob, but somehow Claire was protecting him. This time, love overcame fear. He heard quick noises, like whispers. - Did you hear that? – They were getting closer to the main gate. - What? No, I didn’t. – nodded Claire, shivering with the cold. - Well, it’s here. But where is he? – said Rob. - Who is he? – Claire was confused. - I don’t know, he said that was an old friend, maybe he can help us find the truth about Mommy’s death. - And I really know. I knew you would come. – A deep voice behind them made the ground shake a little bit. – How grown you are since I saw you, Rob. - Who are you? How do you know me? – Rob said to the man. 2 0 - Who are you talking to, Rob? I can’t see anybody here. – Claire was almost crying. - What? Right there Claire, looking at us. - Stop kidding! There is no one. - She can’t see me. I’m a ghost. – said the man. – I thought you already knew it. - Stay away man, I don’t even know your name. - Calm down, kid. I was friends with your mother, and I’ll let you know what actually happened that night. - I confess Rob, I’m very scared, I’m not a grown woman, I’m a coward. Let’s go home. Pleeease! This place gives me chills. Nothing was making sense. How could only he see that man? - I know what you might thinking about right now. Who you really are. Last night, I saw you running until you find Angela and I thought “why doesn’t he use his power to get back home?” - Power? You mean, magic? – Asked Rob, surprised. - Yes kid, you’ve got an incredible power. You heard the whispers of death. It’s a call from the lost ghosts asking for help. Only you can avenge them, including your mother. But as I can see, you have no idea what it is. With all this power, you can save Ghostcity from the Evil. 2 1 No, no, no. That was just a nightmare. Rob nodded completely shocked. Could he save? Could “he” save everyone? - Rob! Come on, let’s get out of here! You acting like a crazy. – Claire had already left the main gate when something big grabbed her. - Rooob! Heeelp! – Screamed Claire uselessly. Now there was only dust left in the air where she had been seconds before. Rob ran towards the gate and, seeing nothing anymore, started screaming for her. The pain was unbearable. He knelt down on the wet ground while his tears didn’t stop to fall. The luck was not in his favor. Two days in a row of tragedies and bad stuff. He couldn’t get this shitty life anymore. Chap. 5 2 2 THE (M)OTHER SIDE ob wanted to know what, and mainly WHY that was going on, because he couldn’t accept it. His sister, his twin and undefeated sister lost in the night with something that he did not even know. - I know where she was taken to. Now it’s time to reveal who you really are to the word Rob. Come on; let me show you something. By the way, I’m Gaspard. It’s a pleasure to see you again. - I can’t believe. She was right there for a second. – Rob cried. – It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have let her come with me. How fool I am! - Don’t blame yourself kid, your sister is a warrior. Now hurry up, dry these tears. I’ll take you to the other side. - What? But if I see you, I’m on the other side already. - No, no, no. There’s another world Rob. Different from everything you’ve ever seen in your life. - Is my sister there? So, let’s go now. I want her back to me. - Hold my hand. – Gaspard said – Close your eyes for a second. You must think of the worst situation you have ever been and scream what comes to your mind right after. Did you understand? R 2 3 - Of course. Rob didn’t need much effort to review the same weird assassin shooting your mother down. That was automatic. - I WILL KILL YOU ASSHOLE!!! YOU TOOK MY LIFE, I’LL KILL YOU!!! – In the middle of the twilight, your voice was the only sound echoing along the cemetery. When he opened up his eyes, there was no more graves, no more crucifixes, no more flowers… Everything had changed. Now instead of a large moon in the sky, a bloody red ceiling took place in a cave full of strange shadows. Under his feet, there was a floor, but not a common floor; it was like a gigantic mirror reflecting his scared face. Rob not even missed Gaspard when someone called his name. He couldn’t believe, but there she was. - My dear son, thanks God I got to see you again!!! – His mother ran to grab and hug him tight. - Mom I can’t believe, it’s you! – Rob barely could say something. –But how? - I guess you already know Rob, you’ve been chosen to bring the justice to Ghostcity and guide our spirits to the light, that’s why you received the power you have. - But Mom, I don’t even know how to use that. - In the right moment, when the time comes, you’ll know. Gaspard is a good friend; he’s got all the help you need. 2 4 - And what about Claire? How do I find her? Is she here with you? - She was caught by him, son. Listen, I know you want to save your sister but… - Him? Who? - The man who murdered me. His name is Grejey Hull. - What? Mom, where is him? I have to go there right now. I promise I’ll avenge you with the rest of life I still have. Tell me, please. - Well, his fortress is five miles away from Ghostcity. First, you have to learn how you can use your abilities with Gaspard. I’ll take you to him again. Let’s go, dear. Rob followed your mother without saying a thing, assured of what he had to do. The fact was, he only knew part of the history. Why did Grejey kill his mother? Had he also killed Angela? Was there a reason for all of this to happen? He wanted to know why his whole family was being hunted and many other questions were crossing his mind. In spite of all this madness, that was a rare moment, he could enjoy his mother and, who knows, spend a good time with her. But there was no more time. Claire was waiting, Ghostcity was waiting, it was time for the boy to become a hero. 2 5 Chap. 6 Chosen one 2 6 verything in that place was very strange: no house, no car, and no people. Just silence. Rob walked with his mother inside a kind of cabin. In a plaque, it said: MEISTER. - I must to leave you right here Rob. - But Mom, can’t you go with me? - No, no. I’m just doing what has to be done, and my task ends here. Find him and save your sister. I can’t go any farther. – she said, crying. – Goodbye my son. You have a great future. Fight for it. - Goodbye Mom. You’ll always be in my heart, I promise. Thank you for everything. I love you. – Rob hugged her. Then he kept walking in that cabin. - Hello! Anybody here? - Welcome to my home Rob. – The same deep voice he heard on cemetery hours ago. – What do you think? E - 2 7 Hi Gaspard. It’s not that comfortable, but you know what I came for. I need to learn how to use my powers. Please, help me. - This will take a several time, if you really want to. - You know more than anyone that I have to. You saw what happened to Claire, to Mom, to Angela and many lives massacred by Grejey. This sucker must feel the taste of death. - He already felt. He’s now a type of dead-live. Once alive, he was a drug dealer. Your mother knew him because a closely friend had recommended him. - What? My Mom and a drug dealer? Impossible. - I’m so sorry to say that, but the truth is: there was a time, soon after your father leaving her, you and Claire were only two little kids, she got depressed. Then looked for drugs, drank and cried a lot, such a hard situation. I offered her my support, whenever she needed. But it was inevitable. - She never told me that. - I know, she didn’t want to worry you two with her problems. Because she loved you so much to let you know what she was going through. - But what happened later? - Well, she bought many types of drugs from Grejey, but didn’t have enough money to pay for them. He was 2 8 the most wanted drug dealer in Ghostcity, and the police was searching for him everywhere. Your mother owed him a lot when he came that day, decided to finish her. I arrived there too late. I still can see the blood flowing on the floor. You were crying without knowing anything. - I remember him. He wore a black jacket, black pants, and a black cap. But I couldn’t recognize his face. - Yes, the officers reached Hull running on the streets a night after the tragedy, and he was sentenced to death in an electric chair. - Well deserved. – said Rob. – He wouldn’t have a better way to die. - I’m not done. – Gaspard ignored Rob’s comment – Grejey had fell in love with Angela, even knowing she was a witch. But when she found out he was a wanted drug dealer, solved to break up with him, because this was too dangerous to her real identity. Months later, she got married to Peter, a well-known magnate. Grejey would not accepted that, and ordered his death. Then promised to kill Angela later on. - So, he was there. That night at Angela’s house. But how? - A few hours before the imprisonment, he had been on cemetery with the bad witches, and offered his soul to gain power. Before the sacrifice, the witches said he - 2 9 needed to die first, so that he could enjoy his “magnificence”. Then he accepted and did that. This is crazy. I can’t believe. Selling the soul to Evil is not something we see every day, and even if we saw, still it’s not a good idea at all. - To him, it was the best thing to do. He could come back and get revenge, kill everyone who somehow had owed him. Wherefore he let himself be found by the officers and die further. - So he comes back to make new victims every night. – Rob said. - That’s for sure, and your sister was the last one, I hope so. You weren’t chosen in vain, Rob. The war between Good and Evil doesn’t have an end, but Ghostcity depends on you. – Said Gaspard opening a little door in the right corner of that room. – Come on. Let’s start your training. Rob was a little confused. As well as to deal between the two sides he was passing through, he had to prepare himself to the greatest battle Gaspard was talking about. - You’ve got the key, Rob. Get ready. – Gaspard said when a huge and bright room took opened before them. 3 0 Chap. 7 Preparation he room was a kind of coliseum, very large with glassy columns everywhere, and the center concealed something covered, like a box, which aroused the Rob’s interest. - That is the Meister’ Room. Few ones had the chance to see it. – Gaspard said to Rob – Only those specials, just like you. - Wow, I never thought I’d see something like this, unless in the movies. – Said Rob, impressed – What is that? – He pointed to the mysterious box. - You’re going to find out, but not for now. Just let me introduce you to a person. Vivian? Get down here. - I’m coming, Dad. – A little flashlight upstairs the roof increased as it fell down slowly and took shape of a teenage girl. Long hair, beautiful eyes, with an air of mystery. - Well, that’s my daughter Rob. We both died in a terrible car crash not long after your mother’s death. T - 3 1 Meet Vivian. She will help you during your stage at my home. Rob couldn’t believe that a pretty girl like her was dead, depending on the point of view. “What a waste of beauty!” Hi Vivian. Nice to meet you, anyway. Everything is new to me, so, I’m sorry if I seem inconvenient. I’m Robert Lancer. But you can call me Rob. - Hello Lancer, I can supply whatever you need, indeed I’m at your disposal when you judge necessary. I only ask you not importune me; I’m not a friendly girl. – She looked at him seriously. - Will that be all Dad? - I think Rob should take a walk around and you could show him some things. He’s got a lot to learn. Go with him. – Gaspard ordered – Be here at six o’ clock. - Of course. For this way Lancer. – Vivian guided Rob to a library and showed him some books. – These are the best books you’ll ever see in your life. The gods of magic, ghosts or not, acquired experience from them. – Vivian grabbed an old book where Rob could read “The Secret of the Power” - I will leave you reading here, come back later. - Thank you Vivian. See you. – said Rob while Vivian left the room graciously. “She’s got some kindness”, Rob guessed, “but she’s also so confident. By the way, I can impress her when I 3 2 dominate my powers.” Then he started opening the books and saw lots of things about initiation in the magic world. From History of Magic to Practices of Witchcraft, he spent over six months trying to learn the maximum he could, but it was not enough. - You are about to put it all into practice Rob. Just keep on going, you’re making progress. - Gaspard always helped him out – It’s almost finishing. Vivian watched everything from a distance, but a little friendlier than when they met each other. And she already called him Robert. - What are you going to do after it all ends? – She asked him once. - I don’t know. I just want to save my sister, defeat Grejey and leave Ghostcity once and for all. My life has been taken away as I lived there. - I wish you good luck Rob. I know how much your family matters to you. Even if that means a sister. You’re such a good person, I must admit it. - Thanks for everything Vivian, I hope we can be friends when I die and come to this world. Only when I’m too old, of course. - Well, even in the other side you can call for me and we’ll talk whenever you need. After all, you belong to both worlds. - 3 3 Yes, now there was a move. For the first time Rob could see that, Vivian was worried about him. - I hope so. Now I have to go. Your father is waiting for me. – Rob got up from the chair, and when he was about to open the main door, something happened. - Rob! Wait. 3 4 She held one of his hands and put a red stone on it. Then gave him a kiss. It was a different sensation. Rob was walking on air, literally. - Just for protection. Don’t die, please. - I won’t. Thanks again Vivian. Goodbye. 3 5 Chap. 8 THE trial rejey’s fortress was like a big castle of the Middle Age. At first sight, it looked like a peaceful place. But in the inside, each room was a prison cell. A few candles hanged on the walls were the only light there. And into one of them, Claire was in a corner, unknowable. With her hair and skin too dirty, she was shaking, whispering something. - I can’t wait anymore. We have to do something. – She was talking to a girl next door through a little hole in the wall. – It’s been six months full of horror, fear and sadness. All he wants is to see me die slowly. Tonight, when we leave for the monthly bath, we’ll make a riot. The others already know. - You sure about it? It’s too dangerous. We’re dealing with an invincible creature Claire, you know what could happen to us? He is a poltergeist, and can find us wherever we go. – said the girl. G 3 6 - I can’t stay any longer in this suffering Elena. I think my brother is already dead. Grejey should have found him. I don’t have family anymore. Let’s save our lives. Dying trying is better than doing nothing. – Claire replied with a weak voice. - All right. I’ll be ready. - Good girl. Two hours later, a noise from the end of the corridor awaked Claire. It was now or never. - Get up, bitches! The shower is waiting. – A group of caped men started to open the bars. – Dress off and stand in line right here. Any movement and we finish all of you. Claire was the last one in the line. She was prepared to give a tug in Elena when there was a black out. All the candles dropped to the floor with a strong wind. He came to visit his prisoners. - Hahaha. Look at you all! Skinner than when I saw you. – Grejey hovered in the hallway – I’ve got something special for you tonight. A trial. I think it’s time to send some of you to the eternal abysm under this fortress, because there’s no more place to allocate my new victims. – He said dissimulating - Be prepared. I’m starting one you finish the shower. Enjoy it, because it might be the last for some of you. Hahahahahahah! 3 7 Then he left. The prisoners were taken to a type of bathroom, not a conventional one. This was way too dark and narrow. Only a trickle of water fell down through a pipe. - So, what are we supposed to do? – The first thing Elena said to Claire. - Let’s wait for the trial. – Claire said lowly – Maybe it’s our ultimate chance. A court had been set up in the main room of the castle. Grejey sat down right at the center and started to call one by one. With many people sentenced to death, Claire was afraid about what could happen to her and her friends, although she was decided to rebel. - It’s awesome to be on the other side. I’ve been judged before, did you know that? Probably not. – He said sarcastically – Next one, Claire Lancer. Everybody turned to see her face. Elena was in tears, because Claire was the only friend there. She didn’t deserve to die. Who would be her company if she went away? Not everyone knew how courageous she was, and if the chance came up, Claire was the one who would make justice. Anyway, desperate whispers could be listened from them all. The future never felt so unpredictable. What 3 8 would happen? It was just a matter of time. Every breath was valuable. But still, there was a last hope. 3 9 Chap. 9 An EPIC RIOT oon after Claire sits down, Grejey opened a big and dark book. A massive noise from the others made him throw a curse, and immediately everyone shut up. - Silence in the court! I always wanted to say that. Hahaha! – Then he continued. - Let me see… Hmmm… This is a special one. I remember your mother very well. The reason why you’re here is just because that bitch didn’t pay me what she owed me. I worked my ass off to get those specialties. And she just forgot to pay me. That’s kind of funny, don’t you think? Huh?... – He got closer and lifted her head up – LOOK AT ME! I’M TALKING TO YOU, HOE! Anyway, I’ve finished my job. I put my gun in her head and… POW! Hahaha. – Hull made fun of the situation. - And now, you’re going to find her, wherever she is, because her soul, yours, and your brother’s are my payment. I really need them. Hahaha! Every word was like an arrow into Claire’s heart. Her mother’s smile was the only memory she had. But all the S 4 0 truth was leaking out like poison from Grejey’s mouth. She was crying bitterly, and could not control: screamed from the top of her lungs. -LIAAAAR! - Then looked right into Grejey’s eyes and said - Monster. The only payment you’ll have is your self- destruction. – Then she dried her tears - What have you done to my brother? Tell me! I just want to know that. If I’m going to die, let me know if some part of me is still alive. TEELL MEE! - Poor girl. I’m a kind of an… invincible. HAHAHA! No one can’t stop me. And about your brother… A thunderous explosion made part of the ceiling collapse onto the ground and something like a lightning hardly hit Grejey. The walls began to catch fire and all the prisoners were screaming and running to the exit door, including Elena. Claire took the opportunity to run away too. But when she was about to left, something made she turned her face and that’s when she saw an incredible scene. There he was. Rob was floating. Quite different since that night at the cemetery. - Did you miss me “woman”? - Rooob! – She turned back and hugged him – I thought you were dead. You won’t believe what I’ve been through all these months. I’m so happy to see you! – She said, clearly emotional. 4 1 - I know Claire. Now I’m here. Let’s get out of this place. – Rob held Claire’s hands when Grejey got up and flew a few meters from where he was. - AAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! – A lot of beams of light got out from Grejey and kicked Rob - Who do you think you are kid? So, you come to my house, interrupt my audience, set my prisoners free and hit me with this foolish magic? I’m very disappointed with your attitude. But you made me save my time, because I didn’t have to search for you, you brought yourself to me. HAHAHAHA! That’s gonna be awesome. Rob threw a spell back to Grejey and he lifted upwards. Claire, hidden under a broken door, watched everything, impressed. Her brother was dealing with magic. Nothing was making sense. She reminded that only Rob could see the ghosts, and probably had found a way to try to save her. - You’ll pay for it Lancer! – Grejey attacked Rob and made his body spin around the court in flames. – I’m the only to win the war and I will rule the two sides, and you’ll never be part of it. Get ready to die! At least, the battle lasted for a long time, and Grejey couldn’t expect such power. Rob was now his declared enemy. Super powerful, he was unstoppable. Every spell he threw towards him was bigger than the previous ones. 4 2 - This is for my Mom! – Rob threw a fast jet into Grejey’s chest – And this is for Angela! – A stronger jet made all the fortress shake hardly and collapse completely over Grejey. - I’LL FIND YOU LANCER! NO ONE CAN HIDE FROM MY EYES! YOU’LL REGRET THIS! MARK MY WORDS, YOU SON OF A BICHT! – Rob could hear a diabolic voice coming from the dust and fumes. - Claire, take my hand! – Rob ran to Claire and pulled her against him, then said something like a curse and suddenly they were already in another place. By the way, a well-known place. 4 3 Chap. 10 BACK HOME he house was exactly the same way they left once. But curiously Ghostcity was quieter than it used to be. Like there was anyone living there. The sun didn’t appear that day, and thick clouds covered the gray sky. Some buzzards flew over the horizon, perhaps the last living things in the city. Rob watched the streets through the window deeply sad. He came back too late. - Now it’s time for you to tell me what that means. – Claire sat down in the bed and covered herself in a blanket. – Did you become a wizard? How did you know where I was? - That’s more than you may think. – Rob sat on the bed next to her – I’ve seen incredible things, like ghosts, monsters, dead lives, and mainly, I’ve seen Mommy. - Mom? Really? – said Claire, surprised. – But, how? Then Rob told her the whole history, and as he was describing each part of his journey, Claire seemed more curious than ever. T 4 4 - How do they live, floating back and forth all the time? Don’t they feel hungry? Rob explained every doubt she had. And when he told her that their Mom really had owed Grejey in life, she was in state of shock. - Oh my God. I can’t believe she did drugs. And kept this hidden from us all the time. - Yes, we could help her anyway, even though we were just two kids. The twin brothers hugged each other and cried a little, satisfying their sorrow. The feeling they felt couldn’t being explained. Tragedies had happened, bad stuff they had been through, and the truth was finally out. However, they were still in danger, even if Rob could brightly dominate his power already. Grejey architected a plan, more furious than never. Anyway, the city was empty. If he solved to come and provoke a war, no innocent life would suffer the consequences. Rob kept in alert, while took care of Claire’s cuts. She needed to keep safe, and he knew what he had to do. - Claire, you will not be totally safe right here with me. I’m afraid of what he will try to do, maybe he’ll attack you again. But I can’t lose you. You’re the only thing I have now. So, I need you to accept to go with me to the 4 5 cemetery and do something. This is just for your own good. Please, let me take you there and keep you in safety until it has finished. Do you accept? - Don’t worry Rob. I know what you’ve made for me and I will never be able to reward you at all. Thank you for saving me, my brother. Of course I do. Let’s go. – Claire smiled, though she was clearly worried. – Just promise me you will knock out that son of Evil and pick me up later. Nothing against good ghosts, but I don’t want to stay there too long. Only when my time comes. - I’m glad you did. I made it all just because I love you “woman”, and I’d do it again if it is necessary. Now let’s get out of here. We’ve got a long way to go. Claire glanced at the house for one last time and followed Rob. It was very windy, but after what they had faced, nothing like that could scare them anymore. After a few steps, they got at the cemetery when Rob called his, now new mentor, Gaspard. - Gaspard, come out! Claire was waiting for someone appear, but even when the same man with his same deep voice answered Rob’s call, she couldn’t see anything. 4 6 Chap. 11 Supposedly dead errible memories they had by being there. The same scene, Claire captured mysteriously by Grejey could not disappear from their mind. Even if they tried to hardly. - Did you bring it? – Rob asked Gaspard while Claire waited sat down in a little bench behind them. - Yes. It’s here. – He took a bottle from his jacket and showed to Rob. - Good. – What am I supposed to do now? - She has to drink it. Thus, she’ll fall asleep deeply. So you can hide her body wherever you want and remember: the potion only takes effect during seven days. After this, the person could really die and its soul would spend the rest of the days wandering, lost in the eternal darkness. T 4 7 - We have to take the shot. It’s for her own safety. – Rob said. – Thank you Gaspard. If it wasn’t for your help, I wouldn’t have gotten this far. - This is for you and your mother Rob. I couldn’t save her from Hull, but now you have been chosen to finish the mission. - I know you did your best. No one could help her more than you did. You’re a real hero. - I’m glad to hear that kid. Don’t forget to come to my home when you’re done, you have just one more thing to do. The box hasn’t opened for you yet. Rob had almost forgotten. Gaspard once said that the box always would open when the training finished, unveiling a surprise. But until that moment, this hadn’t happened, and Rob wanted to know what the future held for him. - I promise, after this is done, I’ll be there. - So, see you later kid. Wish you good lucky with your sister. – said Gaspar, disappearing slowly nearby a tunnel, like always. Rob knew that Claire now was brave, after all. He turned back and explained what she had to do. Dangerous, but necessary. She took the potion, drank it and laid her 4 8 head on his lap. “She is more courageous than I thought”. Then, he started to talk. - Do you recall? Ten years ago, we were right there crying while we watched our Mom’s corpse. Just you and me. Her face was sad, somewhat desperate; her eyes shut and tired staring at something we didn’t even know… As Gaspard had said, a deeply sleep took over Claire and a little rain started, with quick flashes of lightning painting the whole scene. Then Rob carried Claire to the grave when his mother had been buried, and casting a spell, opened the top slowly. His heart was hurting a lot, and tears fell through his face during the act. She was supposedly dead, something Grejey would pay for. This time, it would be everything or nothing. 4 9 When he finished, a couple of screams could be heard behind the wall, like roars of laughter. When he went look, some figures crossed quickly above him. It was just some bats fleeing their shelter. But something else attracted his attention. 5 0 Chap. 12 THE ALLIANCE straw cabin was in the middle of the valley, apparently empty, perhaps belonged to a witch in the past, when Grejey made his insane sacrifice to gain power. Where would they be now? Somewhere over the horizon, he knew. Anytime they would come to the war. Rob looked around, and seeing nobody, jumped and walked towards the cabin. The first time he knocked the door, nothing happened. After knocking it twice, a voice from an old woman answered. - Who is there? What do you want? - Sorry Lady, I thought that there was no one living here, but I see that I was wrong. My name is Rob Lancer, and I’m looking for some kind of, well, witches. - Witches? What do you know about witches? Have you met one before? A 5 1 - It’s raining, so if you give me a chance I can explain to you why I’m here. The old woman opened the door and watched Rob suspiciously. She seemed to be just a lonely elderly person, with her cats and dogs, embroideries, books and a rocking chair in the right corner of the room. But when Rob saw a long broom leaned on the wall, he was pretty sure: she was a witch. By the way, a good witch. After Rob introduce himself, he told her his long adventure in the ghosts’ world, the battle against Grejey, and his sacrifice to save Claire. Then the woman showed him some magical artifacts, and promise help him anyway, including the upcoming war. - I have some contacts. We, the good witches, have been always very united. I know your purpose Rob, and what you have in your blood. It’s something great, it’s the young power we need right now, screaming for justice and revenge. I’ll call them, then we will make an alliance. Lost ghosts and good witches, in the search of the same goal: to destroy the Evil. No one could stop us. Because this time, we have you, and you have all of us. United, we’re going to win this war. - I can’t thank you enough ma’am. That’s what I needed, it’s time to use everything we can in our favor. 5 2 Every one last good creature in this world. Speaking of that, what happened while I was out? There’s no one out there. The city is empty. - It’s been five months, at a Halloween night, Grejey came to terrify some kids. He searched for every house, and picked seven innocent ones, I think, just for one more sacrifice. He needs young souls to keep on living. That’s why everybody left. - Monstrous. Probably, he was looking for me. But he tasted the flavor of defeat when I destroyed his fortress. He’ll never forget that. - You have no idea of what is coming. He isn’t a human, can’t feel compassion, that’s why he did. Anyway, I think it’s time for you to go. When the time comes, we’ll be together. - Thank you so much. By the way, what’s the name of this good soul? - Someone who wants the good instead evil. Just that. Be prepared Rob, it is going to be tougher that you think. Go ahead. – said the woman, walking him out. He couldn’t expect this. He only had known one good witch, Angela, who was dead. But a light in the end of the tunnel made Rob feel more hopeful than ever before. He went away from the straw cabin and jumped onto the 5 3 cemetery again to do what he promised to Gaspard. It was the latest thing he needed to. 5 4 Chap. 13 UNBOXING THE FUTURE aspard was awaiting for Rob in the main room, and Vivian ran to hug him just when he came up. She was excited. - I’m glad you came Rob, and also, really proud of you. You learnt the lessons very well. Congratulations. – She smiled and looked into his eyes. – What you did for your sister was an epic effort. I’ll never forget. You impressed me. - Thank you Vivian. But that was nothing compared to what comes next. So, that’s why I’m back here. The box must give me something I still don’t know. - Don’t worry. It’s time to find out. Dad is waiting for you. Good luck. – She hugged him again and gave him a kiss. He couldn’t control his emotion by seeing her. - See you again. You’ve been an incredible support to me. – he said when she went out. G 5 5 Gaspard watched the box attentively, which was rolling slowly, shining bright, and Rob getting closer, asked him a couple of questions. - Is this about power? A wish? What should I right now? - Just wait and see. It’s automatic. – Gaspard answered. – Now, you must put your hands on it. Don’t let me down kid. - Ok. I’m here for whatever. – Rob put his hand over the box when everything started circling around him, falling down and taking him to another place. He was experiencing a vision. It was Ghostcity, but not the city he was familiar with. This time very different, with kids playing in their yards, blue skies, the sun brighter than ever, fresh air, lots of green and flowery trees exhaling the perfume of the same last springtime he had spent with his parents. He could never forget that. The atmosphere of peace made he wish he could live there forever. He calmly walked through the streets full of beauty, happiness, love and quietness. Then he was taken to another view. It was a beach. The Ghostcity’s Bay. He only went there once, not for a swimming, when his Grandma came to a visit. She just wanted to see the sunset, and spend a day with them. Nothing else. 5 6 Rob kept walking on the sands when something appeared in the horizon. It was a type of ship, but it seemed not to touch the sea. “What the fuck is that?” Rob guessed, as it was getting closer. When he found out what it was, almost had a shock. Grejey and his frightening army. The ship was filled with bad witches, nasty magicians, dead-lives and others creatures he could not believe. Then a weird voice came from the skies and said: “That’s the future you meant to be enjoying Rob. The future the people deserve and you’re fighting for. He is coming for you tomorrow, and now you know where to find him. When the night comes, get ready. Ghostcity still has a chance to be rebuilt. Be its salvation!” Rob woke up from his vision and took a deep breath afterwards. Gaspar closed the box and stared at him. - So, what did you see? – His deep voice echoed to the four corners of the room. - I’ve got only one more night. That’s all. He’s coming through the sea, tomorrow night. – He answered. - Good. Now you know what to do. Rob left Gaspard and went out when he saw Vivian prettier like never before. - Hi Rob! – she said. – I see the box was very kind to you, wasn’t it? 5 7 - Of course it was. I saw what is going to happen and I’m assured that it won’t be easy. I need to get all the help I can until tomorrow. - I know you’re be the best. But for now, I want to show you something. It’s a surprise. Come with me! Vivian stretched her right-hand to Rob and took him upstairs. He had no idea of what she was planning on. However, he trusted her, the only friend he had (Claire was his sister, so she didn’t count). Whether he wanted or not, he knew that was impossible to love her. Out of habit, he was wrong. 5 8 Chap. 14 Ghosts also LOVE “Once I heard your heart It had a freak beat And I saw you fall in love When I put my hands on it You gave me a chance But I couldn’t recognize That you were the one Who would give me life The dream is over Now it’s just pain When my eyes are open Can’t feel you again Tell me, oh Lord Why did I have to go? Cause I can’t spend one more night Without him, anymore.” 5 9 She read those lines to him while they were staring at the stars. Anyway, the side where she belonged had a ceiling, such a beautiful ceiling, though. When she finished the love poem, they both looked into each other’s eyes. - I loved writing poems at school. I mean, nothing like this one, I didn’t make it up. Somehow, I guess it’s my kind of stuff. I would become a writer or something like that, but this is just a dream that I can’t dream anymore because, well, I’m dead, actually. Everything I had planned with my Mom and Dad came to an end with that car crash. You have no idea how I’m feeling now. – She paused for a while. – Whatever, it doesn’t matter. You’ve got serious problems to worry about. I’m sorry Rob. - You’re totally wrong. I think life loses its meaning when we lose everything. I also had so many plans. But unfortunately, as you probably know, my parents left, I don’t know how my relatives are going, I’ve got no friends but you and your father, and my only sister is now, kind of, dead. So, I’m alone and about to die tomorrow. Do you really think my life is the best thing in the world? She hesitated. - The difference between us is that you have a chance to remake everything you lost in the past. You have the power Rob; you saw things that any human being had the 6 0 chance to see in life and most importantly: You are alive. So I hope you kick Grejey’s ass and change the worlds we belong. That’s why you’ve been chosen for. - I never thought you’d say something like “kick ass”. – He laughed for the first time after months. – You’re the type of girl I’d love to spend the rest of my days, Vivian. You’re so perfect. His eyes never had brightened like that. Vivian got closer to his face and kissed his mouth. For a while, Rob felt the same sensation he’d had when she gave him the red stone. Now was a little different. She laid her body over his and the passion between the two made their bodies hover around the ceiling, magically. It was the best first time ever for both of them. Rob knew that could be so hard to forget that when he had to leave her forever. As soon as the sun came up, he woke up and searched for Vivian everywhere, but she was gone, he didn’t know why. The night before had been so unique and beautiful. Every second with that girl would be worth dying in the war, just to come and live there ever after. He was still thinking about it when the deep Gaspard called his name twice. - I’m here. – He said when got into the same majestic room and saw Gaspard holding something like a gun. Actually, that was a gun. 6 1 - I know what you did and, trust me: she never had a chance to date anyone. Therefore, I would ask you to go slow. This is her first experience. - Don’t worry Gaspard. This is my first experience too, and I wouldn’t be any happier if wasn’t with her. I’ve never been so in love and confident at the same time. - Good. Now let me give you something. That’s the gun Grejey killed your mother. I found it in your house that day, and I never could get rid of this. I guess you would like to see it. - I’ll take this tonight. I have something special to do with it; He will taste from his own poison. – said Rob with a mad face. - The good witches will be reunited behind the cemetery, you know where. Meet them and then go to the beach. Tonight is the night buddy. Hurry up and get them all! Rob took the gun and put it inside his pocked. Then he found Vivian in the library and gave her a farewell hug passionately. Said goodbye to Gaspard as he crossed, maybe for the last time, his way back to Ghostcity. 6 2 Chap. 15 The Final war s Gaspard had said (and he was always right), the good witches were camped right around the good-witch-Rob-had-met-but-he-didn’t- know-her-name’s house, and there was a bunch of them. They all wore normal clothes, as every good witch does. Some of them were training fantastic spells and showing them off aggressively. - Welcome back Rob! – The old woman said – As I had promised, here they are. We must treat some issues before we go. – Then she introduced him to some of her friends. One by one, Rob could see how that fight had a real meaning shared by them: they all needed peace, anyway. - It’s not about to be the best. We just want our lives back. Is it too much to ask for? – An elderly wizard said. – And since we’re not making victims, it’s not a common war. - I agree sir. – He raised one hand to attract attention then continued. – LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, TONIGHT WE WILL MAKE HISTORY. IT’S BEEN A VERY LONG TIME DEALING WITH THIS SHITTY LIFE, SADNESS AND DISPAIR. GHOSCITY MEANT TO BE THE CITY I’D LIKE TO A 6 3 LIVE, TO RAISE A FAMILY, AND SPEND THE REST OF MY DAYS ENJOYING IT. ALL MY LIFE HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM ME BY GREJEY, BUT THIS TIME WE’LL NOT MISS THE SHOT AND WE’LL BRING BACK WHAT WE LOST RIGHT WHERE IT WAS YEARS AGO! IT’S TIME FOR REVENGE! COME ON EVERYBODY, WE’VE GOT THIS! – He never had spoken so loud in his entire life. - LET’S GET THEM AAALL! Everybody praised him by standing an ovation, and something like magical fireworks were sent off to the skies. Then the crowd followed him to the Bay. It was about six in the evening. Rob could still see the sunset over the sea. When a dark point appeared in his view, as the box had showed, the enchanted ship was floating toward them. - Give up Rob! You don’t have any chances against me! My army is indestructible! HAHAHAHA! We’ve won once and we’ll win forever! – Grejey was different. He had a strange face, as if it was transfigured. He did not have his eyes anymore, so instead, a deep and dark hole stared at Rob as he moved forward. - I’d never give up Hull. I’m here to finish what I started at your ruined fortress! COME ON EVERYBODY! – Rob shouted. Then all sorts of magical people and creatures ran to start the battle that would define their future. Good against 6 4 Evil. Bad witches against the good ones, Wizards, Dead- lives, a group of masked man throwing up flames in the air, and many others who seemed to be taken from a children’s horror book. Rob faced many of them, reaching out the ship by the time a lightning crossed above his head and lifted right onto the ship, making it explode. Grejey screamed like never before. The hole in his face gave an idea to Rob. He guessed: “A blind dead-live. Oh shit! It’s better than I thought it’d be!” Then he kept going to the vessel on fire. Meanwhile, the battle in the beach looked epic. The good ones attacked bravely, and a plenty of the bad creatures were now just corpses floating over the sea. And what about the good wizards? The masters of the witchcraft destroyed one by one all those masked man and now half of the ship was collapsing over them. But they joined their forces to keep it in the air until it completely explodes. Rob flew to the ship when he saw Grejey screaming and casting spells around the remained half of his ship that was still hovering towards the beach. He wasn’t able to see when Rob knocked him over and screamed: - HEY BLIND-DEAD-ALIVE! SO YOU COME TO MY CITY, INVADE THE BEACH, BRING SOME STRANGE CREATURES AND TRY TO KILL ME WITH THIS FOOLISH MAGIC? – Rob was sweating a lot, his eyes sparking while 6 5 he stared at the repugnant man. – LOOK AT ME! I’M TALKING TO YOU! Ooops, wait a minute. – He stopped for a second. - YOU CAN’T SEE ANYTHING! HAHAHA! – Rob mad an impression of him. The others started to laugh loudly, watching the scene. – I CAN EVEN FEEL THE SMELL OF ROTTING FLESH YOU HAVE. AND IT’S ABOUT TO SINK WITH YOU TO THE HELL. TIME TO DIE MOTHERFUUUCKEEER!!! This time, he didn’t need to use magic to finish him. He just pointed the same gun, which had been used to kill many innocent victims, right at Grejey’s head and shot him down. A green liquid leaked from his mouth and gushed out on the water. He was dying, this time forever. In a blink of an eye, his body became ashes, flying above the clouds, making up a phantasmagoric figure of his diabolic face. As the fire consumed the rest of that ship, Rob launched into the air and flew towards the beach, being applauded by the magic crowd. That night really had been the night. They kept on shouting out “ROB! ROB! ROB!” while he took the way to cemetery (for the thousandth time). He couldn’t handle any longer without Claire. Getting there, he casted a spell to open the grave again and woke up her naturally. It was a just simple deadly sleep. - You okay? – He asked when she recognized him. 6 6 - Yeah, I’m good. So, that means you made it through the war! Rob! – She got up from the grave and, still sleepy hugged him tight. - Better than that. I myself killed that miserable. – he couldn’t help his excitement. - Ghostcity is finally free Claire. No more tragedies, no more funerals, no more fear. We can have our life back. - Mom would be so proud to see it. – She said looking at the old picture on the grave. - She’s is looking at us, and all the others whose souls had been taken by, now passed away to hell, Grejey. They’re now going to find the light, as it demands to be done, finally. I’d wish you meet Gaspard and Vivian, but you can’t see them for now. Hope you all can be friends then. - I hope so. – She yawned. - Now let’s get out of here. I need a bath. I didn’t recommend you spend a night in a grave. In spite of sleeping in a grave for quite some time, she still had the same mood sense. Even if the planet collided with another, Claire would still make fun of it. But this is what made Rob’s life a little better. He fought bravely to keep this piece of happiness alive. Besides now, the war was won and nothing, nothing would scare him anymore. 6 7 The sky never had showed off its beauty at night. The Moon lighted up everything around them, and a shooting star crossed the sky in their view, the exact moment the twins left through the main gate. The shit was done. Well done. Robert Lancer had killed the last killer of Ghostcity. Chap. 16 6 8 Changes hen the Spring brought back the fresh air after years, a beautiful sunshine crossed Rob’s windows every morning. Everything had changed. Ghostcity wasn’t just like it used to be. Better than that. The people had moved back in, and it was full of “real” life. Rob got up later that Saturday, walked to his windows and took a deep breath. Then when he was going downstairs, when he heard Claire screaming for him from the kitchen. He got panicked. “What now? Was it everything just a dream? Worse, did Hull return from hell? Definitely not.” He did it right, won the war, nothing would be the same. However, against malign forces we can’t play. After reading more about it since the epic day, Rob learnt that there’s a thing we can’t ever get rid of: The death. It’s inevitable. It comes to the kids, to the teenagers, to the adults and to the elderlies. Nothing is safe from it. But he wished it wasn’t the time to lose Claire. When he ran down and pushed the door, he almost had a shock. - SURPRISE ROOOB!!! He couldn’t believe. They never had a birthday party since they were five. Bunch of friends of Claire’s school was W 6 9 there and went hug him, wishing happy birthday. A sash was hanged on the wall, which it read: “CONGRATULATIONS, R&C”. Claire was in the center of the table behind a strawberry cake made by herself. She knew cook very well, unlike him. They’d brought some gifts and drinks, as any teenager does. Rock was literally rocking on the radio and they danced for hours. It was almost five p.m. when they both were carried to the beach; Claire was a little drunk. After some jumps and cheers, and laughs, etc., everybody sat down onto the sands, waiting for the sunset. “They’d never imagine what had happen right over there weeks before”, Rob thought. “Anyway, it is past.” He kept staring at the yellowed-orange sky and recalled Vivian. “What would she be doing?” Perhaps writing beautiful poems, perhaps despising another lost boy. Her way to glance at him, speaking politely (in most times), her magical love… It was such a beautiful sunset though, and everyone was laid down, tired. Just like every 80s young soul. For a moment, he wanted to go away with the sun. Vivian would be happy to see him. Nevertheless, after years of suffering, he deserved to live. To live until he loses his mind and kills himself to rest in peace with his lover forever. She was waiting for him from the other side, on and on. 7 0 At least, Rob would never forget how special that day was. SPECIAL THANKS I wish this book was recognized by the ones I love. It really doesn’t matter if you believe or not in ghosts, my purpose here is just to make some fun mixing what I’ve been reading for a long period of my life, besides adding some new stuff I made up. I guess we’ve got a lot to learn from the books. Thanks my family for trusting me all the time. You are all part of me. I couldn’t be any happier for having your 7 3 support whenever I need. You guys are amazing! Love you so much. Thanks my friends I FUCKING love: Vivian, Clara, Helena, Pedro and many others I sent this shit first: Y’all live in a big piece of my heart. And I’m sorry for not spending much time online texting you guys. It’s just because I’m always, kind of, doing a thousand things during the day, also I still prefer an old thing: a blank page about to be filled with bullshit (you know, at the silent night, it’s my stuff). Thanks for stay with me wherever you are, college, web or anywhere else. I’m the happiest nerd ever because I have you all. And I FUCKING LOVE WRITING!!! That’s all. I’ll keep doing my best. Thanks for reading! Love, Leo. e teenagers, to the adults and to the elderlies.
