RSS feed allows users to receive updates on the website that they are subscribed to. Figure 1.1 provides an example where the subscribe button for the RSS feed can be like. There is generic icon that is used to represent RSS feeds. Figure 1.2 is an example of how a RSS feed reader would look like. If the user is subscribed to the RSS feed of a website, it will display on the reader. The reader also provides live update in order for the user to not miss anything. For Lazada, they can use RSS feeds to update users whenever they have either new promotions or new products that are in stock. This helps users save time as they do not have to go to the website constant to check for new arrivals. With RSS feeds, the company can spend lesser on the promotion new arrivals or new promotions. As its provides live updates, they business need not worry that no one is aware of updates of the website.
Some disadvantages of RSS feeds are that the users are required to have a reader to read their RSS feeds. For some web browsers, they do not include RSS feed readers. For example, Internet explorer and Firefox have built in live readers for users. While for Google Chrome, the user would need to download an extension in order for the them to view their feed. The next disadvantage is that RSS file size is limited to only 150KB. This would usually cause the RSS updates to only be filled with text and no media which doesn’t attract the user. This would mean that RSS feeds wouldn’t benefit e-commerce companies as much as they benefit informational websites. Also as email usage have been increasing, it makes RSS less of a need than a want. On the other hand, the company can still make use of RSS feed to tap into other targeted audience that still uses RSS feeds. Since many company do not use it, it would make Lazada have a more unique website compared to other websites and also helps to increase their range of audience.
Order and tracking list is where all the orders from the user are recorded with all the information provided. Every order is labelled with an order number where the user can use that number to check the order status.
Tracking of orders gives the consumer the ability to follow and look through every step of the fulfilment process of their orders. It is important to have a order tracker in the website for users to have a piece of mind. If there are any mess ups during the process of delivery, the user can simply use this feature in the website to check their order and see if there have are any problems. The users are also able to check the total sum that they are suppose to pay if they are paying during collection. This provides the user a place where they can review their orders. With the order tracking feature, it increases the customer satisfaction and makes customer retention better. Below are 3 reasons why order tracking is important for an eCommerce website.
1. Automating order tracking ensures accountability
An eCommerce store must always ensure that it is accountable to its customers. When shipments and orders are accountable and can be tracked easily, it ensures that the customers return to the website to shop again. When order tracking is automated, it is also easy for a seller to make all sales accountable. If there is a problem with billing or orders, the business could always go back to their logs to verify claims.
2. It builds confidence and trust
Customers still desist from shopping online, especially the older customers and those who are not yet used to making purchases online. When you automate order tracking, people receive notifications in a timely manner, which builds trust and confidence. Such people are likely to make purchases repeatedly as they already have a decent experience with your website.
3. Avoids unnecessary calls made to customer support
It isn't uncommon to meet pessimistic customers. There are customers who always tend to believe that a parcel will never reach them, even if it has been insured and guaranteed. Insecurity is the root cause of such fears but that insecurity can result in a number of unnecessary calls being made to the customer care. This results in unnecessary wastage of resources of the part of customer care department. In order to avoid frantic and panic-stricken calls about orders that still haven't arrived, automating order tracking and regularly sending out updates to customers is important.
