But it’s also about the decades of love and commitment shared between two very cool ladies from New York’s Greenwich Village. (

Why should her relationship with Spyer be any different when it came to rights, taxes and more than a heterosexual couple? Why should Windsor have to pay, literally, for losing her soulmate? Neither opinion settles the matter for good. That is expected to happen when

She hopes, through her struggle, to help make it so gay teenagers can "fall in love knowing there's a future," that children of gay couples won't feel the need to explain their families, and that homophobia becomes a thing of the past. I don't have a definite opinion about this. The Supreme Court has spoken and it's settled for me.

Before the modern effort to redefine marriage gained momentum, was there a suggestion that the male-female relationship that produces the children who will carry society into the future could not be given special status under law? We're talking about a paradigm that's been in place for over 200 years and it has been strongly upheld by nearly all courts.
Just like fingerprints producing children naturally is unique to opposite-sex relationships. It is not the law that "discriminates" based on "sexual orientation"—it is nature.
Additionally, it is the powerful dynamic of a mother, father, and children that creates those bonds of family that form the bedrock of all societies and provide the best environment for raising children—as social science has clearly demonstrated. Children need both a mom and a dad, not just two adults. These are compelling, scientific reasons to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman. They expose the arguments of same-sex advocates as self-serving talking points with no basis in human nature and American history.4 Discussion Question #8
