While growing up Marina new she had a passion for makeup. She would give her friends makeovers, which gave her a lot of practice along the years. After high school, she decided she was going to study criminal justice and forensic science and got a job as a Human Resources Manager for ten years. She took this path since she also enjoyed critical thinking, analysis and gathering information. She didn’t follow her dreams because she did not want her sister to think she was following her footsteps and she also did not get support from her friends and family.
Marina finally decided it was time to follow her dream and not think much about what other thought. She Studied at the Aveda Institution of Atlanta and obtained her license in the state of Georgia. Now she has a busy schedule. She works almost every day of the week and can never take a weekend off since its when work is the busiest. Marina works ten to twelve hour shifts a day since she has a hard time saying no to anyone and works even when she is tired. Work consist of different things every day, ranging anywhere from haircuts, dying hair and styling it to makeup.
Work in this field has its ups and its downs. She loves her job mainly because she loves to see the looks of the clients. “I wanted my job to mean something. I wanted to use my work to uplift others, especially women.” This field has thought her more than just what she learned when she went to school. She learns something every day, such as whatever career of job anyone is in they should always do it with passion or it will reflect them in their job. It may be a great job but she also has some weaknesses. The most difficult one is she has trouble saying no to anyone and even if she has a busy day she still manages to get everything done. It is also a very inconsistent job. Since she is working all the time, she never has any time for things such as family and friends, birthdays, and many other special events. She has kids and has very little time to see them since she is always working. They miss her all the time but she would not trade her job for any other in the world. Overall, the key to her job is to practice and work closely with those who believe in your work and want to see you succeed. She looks up to legends in her book, such as her mentor Stephen Moleski. She says, “It’s a slow process in the beginning, but with time and dedication your hard work will pay off.”
