Saturday November 5 12:42-2:12 (1 hour 30 minutes) Activity Description
Before meeting my facilitator I decided to do some research of my own so I would have a better perspective. First I looked at some of the different type of makeup equipment to see what was the best to use. Then I decided I would look over some videos and what started of as only a couple of videos turned into an hour. There was many different techniques on how to apply eyeshadow. There was also videos on how to apply face makeup due to the different types of face shapes. I also looked over some pictures and examined them to see how exactly it would have been done.
At the begging of the research I didn’t think there would be so many brushes used during the process. I knew I would need different brushes but I didn’t think I would need so many for the smallest details. I also didn’t know how much of an impact one thing made on the final product. Some wouldn’t think it would be much of a difference but after some reading it was as if the smallest thing made a difference. I also learned a lot about steps to take even before doing anyone's makeup.
Doing some reaserch of my own so I have a better exectation of things I will learn duing my lessons. I was a bit surprised that there was so much I didn’t know.
Sunday November 6 10:00-12:07 (1 hour 7 minutes) Activity Description
Then I contacted my facilitator to see when we could start our lessons and what I would need to get started. As soon as I got off the phone I decided I had no time to waste so I went ahead to purchase all I needed. I went to Ulta to purchase all the equipment I needed. I think I got too carried away at first since I almost spent over $300. I called her back to see what she thought about what I had only to finally realize I had some stuff at home. After spending so much time I only got a couple of very important things. Talking to her saved me a lot of money.
I think I got a little too carried away with all the makeup. I was looking over everything and I just wanted to take everything. There are some people who help and the more the talked the more I wanted to spend. They made everything sound like something I needed. At the end I did sit down and think over everything I was about to buy and left some stuff behind but I couldn’t leave the store without buying anything. I had walked past a couple of times but I didn’t want to go in without knowing what I was looking at.
Looking at various makeup trying to decide which one I like the most. It was a tough choice since I really liked both.
Monday-Friday November 7-11 5:00-7:00 (10 hours) Activity Description
I went for a couple of lessons at her job as well as some of her events throughout Atlanta to observe. She thought me everything from the basics to the more complicated. I learned how to blend eyeshadow like a pro and what color schemes to use. Colors are a big part when it comes to everything looking good. Browns should be mixed with warm oranges and so forth. I also learned how to contour and highlight properly. I also learned how to communicate better with clients. I have never been that great with communicating with others but because of this I learned so much from my facilitator. Working with a group is a bit more complicated because time management is a must.
At the begging I didn’t think it was going to look as good as it did. I had done my makeup before if you count foundation and my eyebrows. I thought I was good but after some lessons I realized I had made a lot of mistakes. I was finally about to do it all on my own. I was not going to be just watching or have someone guide me every step of the way. When I started I didn’t have the best lighting so that didn’t help. I also didn’t have all the equipment my facilitator had so I had to do with what I had. I think it turned out a lot better then I thought it would.
December 18 2:05-3:34 (1 hour 45 minutes)
It was time to put my learning to the test. It was difficult at first since my friend had a different facal stucture and eye stucture than what I had practiced on. I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t come out the same but the turn out was amazing. I did struggle at the beginning of the process but it wasn’t too bad. I did a nutral eye look with a gold eyeliner as well as a basic black eyeliner. To the rest of the face I just finished it off by adding some foundation as well as countouring the face to make some features stand out.
Doing my friends make to test my skills learned at this point. I was exited to see how it would all turn out now that I was on my own.
