Being a college freshman is exciting for so many reasons, but for most incoming freshman, moving away from home definitely takes the cake! You finally get a taste of freedom. You can leave your dorm when you please, come home at any time of the night (if your university doesn’t have restrictions) and most of all, you finally get the freedom you’ve been longing for! Your side of the dorm can be as messy as you want it to be, or as organized and put together as you want. It’s all up to you! Because we’ve all been freshman before, we decided to create a checklist for all your freshman year must-have’s!
Dorm beds are never comfortable without a little extra fluff!
Pillows! Lots of pillows!
Who doesn’t love being surrounded by a fort of pillows when you need a little alone time?
Clorox Wipes, Bleach, or Spray!
You never really know when you’ll need these things, so it’s best to keep them on hand at all times. Besides, your bathroom mates probably won’t be the cleanest.
Snacks are great for any time of the day. Always have snacks!
A bedside lamp or string of lights above your bed is always convenient. Don’t forget light bulbs.
You can never have too many towels in college! Don’t forget shower shoes!
If your school is anything like mine, you’ll be getting a ton of free t-shirts, water bottles, key chains and whatever else you might find run across while on campus. Or when seasons pass and you need somewhere to toss your summer clothes for the winter, you’re definitely going to need somewhere to store those miscellaneous items! Grab some bed risers to create under-the-bed storage, as well as some over-the-door hooks for extra hanging space.
A fridge, microwave & eating utensils are definitely necessities for those late nights when your favorite campus restaurant is closed or for when you’re too lazy or bogged down with work to make a food run.
As cool & stylish as you imagine yourself being in college, that cool bag you like to carry will eventually break. Invest in a backpack that’ll last through your entire college career, trust me, you’ll need it.
College is expensive. Make sure you have a financial plan!
Fill those out as much as possible. It never hurts to have extra money.
Batteries, flashlights, first-aid, pain meds, umbrella’s and jumper cables for those with cars!
Can’t go without a hamper, iron and ironing board!
Most dorms don’t allow candles, so a bottle of your favorite Febreeze scent, cute wallflowers and/or a can of Lysol should get the job done.
There are never enough outlets for all the gadgets we have! Have a power strip (or two) handy for your chargers, alarm clocks, and other electronic goodies.
