To whom it may concern:
I am writing this to present to you a candidate for the position of ‘National Secretary of the Year’.
I know all the candidates are more than qualified, but, how many have been dedicated since the age of 10? Yes, that is correct. Todd Bair, a member of the Simi Valley Lodge #2492, in Simi Valley California, has been helping the lodge since 1988 when his dad, Red Bair, joined.
Todd Bair started working in the kitchen helping Doug Wright (now the Club Manager). Example, they would pick Todd up after school on Wednesdays and take him to the lodge so he could make the popcorn for Bingo, to help his dad, Bingo Chairman. He wasn’t old enough to go in the Bingo room so they took him home after he was finished.
Todd Bair would serve the food on dinner evenings and when he turned about 12 he started taking the money for all the dinners. He then started doing special events, decorating, table arrangements while still in the kitchen and still taking money which he still does, for large events.
Todd Bair did all this plus changing light bulbs, washing windows, making sure the cash registers were programmed plus. . . . So much more all through his school years. When Todd was 17 years old in college he started his internship for KTLA television station and has continued working there. Today he holds a position of Assistant Producer.
Todd Bair never stopped volunteering at the Elks while he worked on his career. Before he was 21 PER Ken Willmon gave him an unofficial award of “Junior Elk of the Year” for all he did.
I have been at the Simi Valley Elks Lodge #2492 for 25 years as a spouse of a member. We have watched the child grow into a fine gentleman and a devoted and dedicated Elk.
Todd Bair finally turned 21 and became an Elk. He helps in Bingo, calling, selling, taking care of the Bingo equipment etc. Just recently he put together a Bingo Marathon for the Simi Valley Elks Lodge #2492. It was so successful the community will benefit from his efforts for a while.
Todd Bair has been Elk of the Month, Elk of the Year, Officer of the Year and Treasurer. He has also been a Ritual calculator for the past three (3) years and current District Vice Chairman for CLMS. He always finds time to do it all. He has done Officer reports, including the ER’s and Grand Lodge. He is the Editor for the lodge newsletter, The Bugle, and does most of the invitations and programs for visitations etc.
Todd Bair has been the Lodge Secretary for 10 years, Bugle Editor for a number of years, helps with Special Events, Bingo, cashier, kitchen crew since he was 10 and anything that needs to be done. Born in 1978 and being a volunteer for the Elks since he was 10 while completing his education and working on his career (he has received a couple Emmys for his job at KTLA). I feel Todd Bair is the best person to be named ‘National Secretary of the Year’.
Thank you for your consideration,
