My name is Denisse Gallardo, I am 18 years old and a senior at Etowah High school. After graduation, I plan to go to college to pursue a career in Translation and Interpretation. I currently take a class for that a school , and it's always been something that interests me. For my senior project I chose the career of Psychology. Which was incorporated in my product which was a youth church retreat.
For my research paper I researched influential psychologists. Through my research I learned theories used. As well as the impact of them on society and on other psychologists. By researching this issue I learned better about how psychology works on people and how it is used on people. Another thing I learned was the way theories change from older psychologists to new upcoming ones.
For my senior project product I organized a youth church retreat targeting the Hispanic community. Me being Hispanic I wanted to use what I learned from my facilitator and my research paper to incorporate in helping the youth from my retreat. I try to use some of the theories I learned about to know how to work with the kids better . One of my biggest obstacles was the thought that I had to promote my idea at church and speak to an audience of people in Spanish. On the other hand I think I can say that was an achievement as well. Seeing how many parents were interested in bringing their kids to my retreat made me realize how much of a good job I had done.
I think that my topic and research relate to a career in the sense that you use psychology and certain theories to work with the kids. I learned about myself that I am capable of doing things that I had before thought of impossible. When it comes to public speaking I am a very shy person. I learned about myself through my senior project that by even taking just a small step out of my comfort zone I can make a big difference in myself and others. Even though I am highly interested in psychology I don’t think I would like to pursue it as a professional career.
Senior Project was a very cool experience. Even though there was many struggles and it was tough to step out of my comfort zone, doing my senior project is something I really enjoyed. I feel like I came across things I wouldn’t have in any other situation. I would really like to thank you for your time. As well as for reading my letter.
