Show team, Competitive Cheer, and Hip Hop Tryout packet 2017-2018 “Give your child one of the greatest gifts of all… SELF CONFIDENCE” At TexStar, we make it a fun, family-oriented environment, but we also focus on having structure and proper progressions. We expect a lot out of our athletes, but we have fun meeting our goals. Four years ago, we had our very first tryout for our competitive cheerleading pro- gram. Our teams consisted only of athletes who were in our recreational tumbling classes, and 99% of these girls had never cheered before. Now 4 years later, by the grace of God, we have a top notch and award winning Competitive Cheer & Hip Hop program. We believe that our success is due to our passion for the sport, our family oriented atmosphere, and our determination to help EVERY child to learn, grow, and succeed, not just in cheerleading, but in life. This year, we will be offering Competitive Cheer, Show Team Cheer, Competitive Hip Hop, and Show Team Hip Hop. See following pages for more information. Tryouts are in May!! Teams will be picked by age and skill level. Choreography camps will possibly be in the middle of August. Team practices will start in June 2017 and continue through April 2018. These girls will still learn all that the competitive teams do, the only difference is that instead of competing, they will perform at competitions. Here are a few to help us run a strong and thriving gym in which you feel safe and productive in. We know we have the best parents and athletes, but we have to put this in just in case!! Leadership 1. Each member and parent must be aware of the responsibilities required and the commitment they are making to the team. 2. Each member must realize the manner in which they conduct themselves while representing TexStar, directly reflects on the entire squad and staff 3. Each member will be willing to work hard, take directions, and strive for excellence Expectations 1. Members will set and maintain the highest level of behavior through example 2. Members will do everything in their power to achieve personal and squad goals. 5. Each member is responsible for finding out any information missed. Attendance 1. You are committing to be at every practice. This is a team sport, so when you miss you put the team in a bad position. It is hard to learn the routines and polish them if you are not present. 2. Competitions 1. Members are required to attend all competitions. This means through the award ceremony. Team spirit and support are a very important part of the competition. The more crowd interaction the better the squads do and it makes an influence on the judges! Support your team!! Safety 1. Jeopardizing the safety of oneself or any member is unacceptable. 2. There is absolutely no gum, candy, or jewelry of any type in the gym. Please do not wear jewelry to the gym, we cannot be responsible for items left. Parental Obligations 1. Example: Uniforms, entry fees, tuition, camps, travel, lodg- ing, etc. 5. Parents are to encourage and support their child to be the best they can be. Rules and Regulations 1. No smoking, drinking, or alcoholic beverages or use of drugs. This will warrant immediate dismissal from the squad, 2. Challenging the authority of the coach or person in charge by student or parent is unacceptable. 3. Abusive behavior, lying, or any other negative form of behavior is unacceptable. 4. Each member will follow all rules and guidelines given by the coach or person in charge. If any of the rules or guidelines are broken, immediate dismissal may be taken. Please keep in mind the rules and guidelines are for your own safety and benefit!! This is not the official contract. This is what the contract will consist of. A two part carbon copy will be available to sign in the office. This copy will need to be notarized and brought to the Tryouts. We will have a notary available at tryouts. You must bring your drivers license to tryouts if you would like it notarized. _____1. Athletes are required to wear assigned practice wear to every practice. Athletes can find which color to wear on the monthly calendar. _____14. Rules and Regulations ***Not to turn in. Pick up official carbon contract in the office.*** We will have three or four different fundraisers to help with financial obligations. Fundraisers are not mandatory, but all profit goes into your cheer ac- count, and can be used towards uniform, practice wear, warm-ups, tuition, and cheer fees. We will have our first fundraiser at the end of May to help pay for Uniforms or Tuition. There will be several team bonding days throughout the summer for the girls to get to know each other. We will plan a few fun events, so be looking for more information on this. These dates will be announced by the 1st of May. Choreogra- phy Camp will be the middle of August. This is where the girls will learn their routine for the year. Choreography camp is mandatory for all All Star Cheerleaders. This camp is included in your Cheer Fees. Competitive cheer is a time consuming sport. When athletes are absent, it hurts the whole team. Athletes will be allowed three excused absences in the summer and three excused af- ter summer for the rest of the season. After this, we will charge $25 per absence no matter the reason. We need every girl at every practice in order for the team to be successful. We will try to schedule practices around your schedule, but this does not always comply with other activities. Practice cannot be missed because of another sport, so please keep this in mind while signing up. If athlete is ill or hurt, they must have a doctors note, and if not run- ning fever, must come to practice to watch. Funerals are the only other exception, and we will need a copy of the funeral program. We will have extra practices on the weekends two weeks prior to competition. These are mandatory! If athlete is missing practices jeopardizing their stunt group or routine, we have the right to move them out of their formation or position. All Star Members, between now and tryouts it is in your child’s best interest to attend as many classes, clinics, and private lessons as possible. It is not too late to get skills needed to be on desired team. Coaches are looking for tumbling skills, jump ability, dance technique, stunting strength, and flyer flexibility. These things will determine what team you are on. ALL FORMS & DEPOSIT MUST BE TURNED IN TO TRY OUT!!!
