Analytics and Insights
Georgia Institute of Technology Gains Broad Access to Powerful Design Software
The College of Engineering from Georgia Tech sought to virtualize its computer labs’ desktops, on which it ran the massive engineering applications used by students to learn sophisticated, and compute-intensive, three-dimensional computer-aided design and manufacturing graphics software. The common solution—maintaining physical machines with graphics cards—would diminish the benefits of virtualization. Instead, Georgia Tech adopted an innovative solution: using graphics capabilities in Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V.
Learning management system
Universitas Gadjah Mada
UGM chose Office 365 over other productivity suites like Google Apps for Education to create an online version of its learning management system—eagerly adopted by other local universities—and to enhance its distance learning programs.
Recorded class sessions
Dunamare Education Group (Netherlands)
Dunamare uses Office 365 and Lync to record classes and make them available on the school intranet for students unable to attend class or interested in reviewing class sessions. Teachers can edit classes to update material or add links/videos. Videos are hosted through the Azure platform, removing any need for local storage.

Goal of slide: introduce Windows 10 and how it connects into the Cloud Productivity Platform
Windows 10 is a key part of the vision to add on to the Cloud Productivity Platform. Windows 10 enables immersive education experiences with support for rich applications, a new leading-edge web browser and new Universal Windows Platform apps. At the same Windows 10 also supports both new cloud and existing infrastructure enabling IT to choose the solutions that work best for them.
Windows 10 introduces native support for Office 365 (or AAD) identity, enabling connection for:
User management and device sign-on so there can be a single identity that gains access to a device and cloud productivity and data
Windows Store for Business, enables an organizational app store that is free and easy to get started with for schools with an Office 365 tenant
Integration with existing infrastructure for management and security and support for new cloud-enabled functionality such as with AAD identity and MDM
Windows 10 is the operating system that allows schools to move their infrastructure into the cloud on their terms choosing when and whether to go cloud.
Microsoft also has started to build devices directly in addition to working with a wide array of partners to offer innovation across form factors and price points.
Goal of slide: Immersive Education Experiences are what creates magic in the classroom; they are enabled for IT by having one identity, Office 365 and Windows 10
Windows 10 introduces native support for Office 365 (or AAD) identity. With Windows 10 and Office 365, teachers can bring out the best in students by providing a platform for collaborating, exploring, differentiated learning, personalized teaching, and getting things done across all devices.
Windows 10 and Office 365 empower teachers to create a dynamic learning environment that excites and inspires students to learn and grow and build 21st-century skills like the 4Cs. Microsoft delivers many of these immersive experiences directly in addition a set of amazing apps built by partners.
These apps create experiences that allow students and educators to…
Collaborate Student can collaborate on the same projects from anywhere, and teacher feedback are exchanged automatically in one place virtually anytime, anywhere with programs like OneNote, OneDrive and Office 365.
Communicating well has been identified as the #1 skill for students to succeed in today’s global world. With Skype, students can connect and communicate with other classrooms and students all around the globe.
With programs like Office 365, Office Mix and Sway, teachers can inspire students, and engage students to create in unique ways.
Building thinkers for the future, who are flexible and adaptive, is a major objective of schools. To support critical thinking skills, apps and tools like Minecraft, Excel, and Bing help students explore concepts like perimeter, area and volume and foster problem solving and leadership.
Goal: for IT Microsoft offers a set of solutions that you’re likely aware of but that support both new cloud tools and existing infrastructure
School Data Synch, Azure Active Directory and Single Sign On help bridge between cloud and existing on-premises infrastructure. Nearly all of Microsoft’s technology is able to adopt to the type of environment that you choose to run. However it is all made flexible for the future by also enabling the migration to the cloud.
Moving more workloads to the cloud enables tasks that are done today like hosting servers or running analytics more cost-effective, powerful and flexible for both IT and users.
Beyond just moving workloads to the cloud there is a set of new opportunities unlocked by having the scale and power of an intelligent cloud working for you, one that integrates with your infrastructure. With a range of off-the-shelf and custom-built solutions possible the sky is perhaps not even the limit for the cloud.
Goal of slide: Reiterate that Microsoft is working against a holistic vision for its products & solutions that integrate well together. Close with call to adopt Office 365 Education, Windows 10 and Azure.
Across all of our products and services Microsoft is tying things together in a scalable well that provides immersive education experiences built on top of a cloud productivity platform delivered on a modern O/S, supported by the power of cloud technology that can also be run on-premises.

Office 365 Education
Free collaboration tools students and teachers need plus the control and flexibility IT requires to help keep your data secure.
Help students and teachers accomplish much more with simple file sharing, real-time co-authoring, online classes and conferencing—all accessible anywhere.
Protect student privacy by setting permissions and policies. Archive and use in-place legal hold to help meet compliance needs. Advanced data protection helps keep your data safe.
Gain IT control
Reduce IT overhead and hassles while staying in control. Manage the cloud on your terms, easily, with automated tasks.
School Data Sync (SDS), which is included in Office 365 Education, mirrors user profiles and class rosters from a Student Information System (or SIS- such as Powerschool) into Office 365 through Azure Active Directory. Currently, applications used in classrooms have no connection to the student, their group, or their identity and permissions. If there is a connection, it is often time consuming for administrators and teachers to set up and maintain that information. SDS models classrooms within Office 365 as Groups and Group sites, so teachers can easily manage classes and class materials, freeing up time for lesson planning and teaching. SDS also enables Single Sign On (SSO) so students logged into Office 365 are automatically logged into other supported classroom applications- saving instruction and administrative time. Finally, SDS automates complex processes to reduce burden on IT staff, saving time and money. Since IT admins can determine what student data to sync and which apps can access the data, it is easy to remain in compliance with your standards and policies.

Goal of slide: Windows 10 is a single platform across devices
Windows 10 adapts to the devices customers are using — from Xbox to PCs and phones to tablets and tiny gadgets — and what they’re doing with a consistent, familiar and compatible experience. Windows 10 runs across an incredibly broad set of devices — from the tiniest of sensors as part of the Internet of Things, to servers in enterprise datacenters worldwide. Some devices have 4-inch screens, some have 80-inch screens and some don’t have screens at all.
A single Windows OS that can run across every type of Windows device. It has a single device platform to enable true universal hardware drivers and a single application platform to enable true universal Windows apps. Years in the making, this is a significant engineering accomplishment.
At the OS level, this means a single, maintainable and agile code base. For developers, it provides a unified, reliable API surface across every Windows device, from Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as Raspberry Pi to phone, Xbox, tablet, Surface Hub, laptop, PC and more (like Microsoft HoloLens).
Goal: Windows Store for Business is built for organizations

The value of analytics and insights in education:
Cross-platform and open source friendly: A hybrid analytics solution enables students, faculty and facilities managers to view all of their data in one place. Structured and unstructured data can process on a larger scale, allowing the sharing/use of data internally and externally.
Self-service access: With data at their fingertips, teachers and faculty are able to uncover insights quickly and efficiently. An end to end platform accelerates the time to action; and reporting and visualization can be customized without the standard wait time of traditional models.
Personalized learning path: With real-time access to data, teachers can evaluate student performance and tailor their approach according to specific student needs. With predictive analytics, educators can identify at-risk students, uncover learning disabilities and take actions that promote student achievement.
Scalable and flexible: With a hybrid cloud and on-prem solution, schools and universities can take advantage of their current investment in storage and scale it based on their specific capacity needs.
Highly secure, highly available: Using Azure is very reliable, offering year-round, 99.95% availability for your data.

The benefits of an enriched, modern e-learning solution:
Decrease Cost: Eliminate initial infrastructure investment costs by piloting and scaling e-learning solutions on Azure. With Azure you can run a wide variety of open source e-learning solutions that run on Linux (i.e. Moodle, OpenEdX, Mahara)
Increase Reliability: someone else manages system administration, backups, disaster recovery, and networking, making sure your e-learning solution is working when your students and faculty need it most.
Address Retention Proactively: With Power BI and Azure Machine Learning you can garner insights from your e-learning solution that can better help you identify at-risk students and develop customized interventions tailored to their needs.
Increase Student Engagement with Better Content: An e-Learning platform is only as good as the content it hosts. With first class content creation tools like Microsoft Office combined with the power of Azure Media Services for Video you’ll enable your faculty to create new content that will capture the imagination of your students
Enable Anytime Anywhere Learning Securely: Allow faculty and students to use flexible and reliable authentication methods to access all of the functionality they need, on any device
