WHAT IS FLU
The flu (influenza) is more than just a “cold”- It’s a specific and serious respiratory “disease)”
On average there are 200,000 Flu-associated hospitalizations yearly.
It’s also important to understand that you have a choice when it comes to flu. Trivalent flu vaccine cover three strains of the flu while Quadrivalent vaccine cover four strains. Then there is a high dose vaccine for people over 65. That means you get higher coverage against the flu with the high dose strain flu vaccine.
Understanding the Flu
The Flu may impact each person differently, but typically symptoms include: high fever, aching muscles, sore throat, dry cough, runny or stuffy nose, headache, vomiting and diarrhea. For most people, symptoms last a few days.
Understanding the Flu
The Flu is a contagious disease and can spread quite easily through coughing, sneezing, and nasal secretions.
Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning: 1 Day before symptoms develop and 5 Day after flu symptoms begin.
Any one can get the flu, but rates of infection are highest among children, elderly and pregnant females.
A doctor can prescribe antiviral medication that reduces flu symptoms and helps you to recover faster.
For Flu medicines to work, you must get the medicine fast: best results are seen if you get the medicine within the first two days of symptoms.
Influenza can occur at any time, but most influenza occurs from October through May.
Getting the vaccine as soon as it is available can help protect you in the event flu season comes early in a particular year.
Once you get vaccinated, it takes about 2 weeks for protection to develop. The CDC recommends that you should receive a flu vaccine every year.
As health care providers we have the obligation and responsibility to educate and protect our Customers, community, Neighborhoods and Associates from the strain of Flu this season.
