My Experience with Theology
My experience with theology has taken a number of different directions. I was born to a family that practiced Catholicism. I was taught that just about everything is a sin, some at higher levels, but sin never the less. It left me afraid and disoriented for 18 years. I always felt a sense of guilt for the most minor of thoughts, actions and what we call today normal hormonal phases. We were never allowed to question our feelings nor did I have a real close relationship with Christ. I always wondered why we had to go to someone other than God for forgiveness, or even be allowed to the search the Bible for answers to the things that questioned me. You could only take the word of priests and lay-teachers. After I got to the age that I could finally leave the church and go out on my own to find the answers that I felt I wasn’t getting from `this religion. I was devastated by the inconsistences that I had been taught to believe, I had been lied to all my life.
So I went on a quest to study every religion I could get my hands on. It left a bitter taste in my mouth for years, and now at the ripe old age of 62, I am finally coming into my own. I can read for myself the Truth, the Bible, God’s Word, and it is such a revelation to finally find what is Truth.
