Coaching kids into Young Adults
January 30th, 8 pm-10 pm, 2 hours
Today my brother and I went and hit the courts again. He quickly fell into the warm up routine that I had shown him the first day we started training. I then taught my brother the proper form on his serve (an important shot in the game of tennis since it is the first shot in any rally) we worked on serving to both the deuce and the ad side for about 30 minutes each. I then put what he learned to the test by giving him three chances to make 1 serve in the box and for each time he didn’t hit one in i was tough on him and made him run sprints. He had to do this task for the rest of practice.
Practice session three
Description: this is me teaching my brother the proper form on serves. He needed to learn the right grips and how to toss the ball and how different ball tosses affect the flight of the ball.
Commentary: Since my brother is a right handed player it seemed that he was more natural serving on the deuce side of the court. He was able to hit many more serves in on this side.
February 5th, 8 pm- 10 pm, 2 hours
In my fourth practice session with my brother I thought that it was about time that he should start getting match ready. My brother and I played a full match to see how match tough he is. We played for about two hours and I helped and broke down each point and gave him some tips on what he could do better in each of them.
Practice session four
Description: This is me playing a competitive match with my brother. I gave him tips on what he could do better within each point and he responded very well.
Commentary: I was very pleased with my brothers ability to keep score and what to do in certain situations within a match.
February 15th, 7 pm- 8 pm, 1 hour
For this hour I went online to USTA.com and planned all the tournaments that I would want my brother to play in the month of march. I had to register my brother for three local tournaments in the age group of 10 and under division because he is 9 years old. I signed him up to play a Tournament the weekend of march 3rd in Cartersville, one at Cherokee Tennis Center the weekends of march 10th, and a tournament in Rome, Georgia march 18th. Each of these tournament increases in levels of play so I can log my brothers improvement.
Commentary: it was great to get a lesson with Lori to see how a certified coach conducts a lesson with a student. It opened my eyes on how passionate you really have to be.
