LGBT and Gay Marriage Those who fight against the LGBT community defends that being gay is a sin and therefore should be banned by law. In response to that, another claim is that being gay is choice therefore homosexual individuals are not protected by the laws of the government. The anti-gay community argues that gay marriage is not a civil right, and instead a morally wrong decision. Therefore that cannot be a just defense in court. (Osunsami). Civil rights are not being denied. They have the right to marriage just as heterosexual couples. They may not want to, but the right is still given
It violates the natural law of marriage between man and woman and it denies a child from having a father or mother. Children without fathers are at higher risk for engaging in early sexual activity. While children raised without a mother lack a necessary emotional security. People who are gay are at a higher risk of health problems including depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Homosexuality also spreads disease. AIDS and other STDs have higher rates in homosexual communities than in heterosexual relationships.
The institution of marriage has traditionally been between a man and a woman. This tradition is not just measured in centuries or decades but in millennia’s.
Those who are advocates for LGBT people constantly defend themselves. One argument they support is that denying people the option to marry is discriminatory and that it puts the LGBT community into a separate group of people, which is illegal. Putting restrictions on homosexuals is unconstitutional and is only meant to “hurt, discriminate, and deprive people of equal rights” (Procon). The concept of traditional marriage has changed over time and the tradition of a marriage between a man and woman is historically inaccurate. Polygamous relationships were very popular worldwide as well as inter-racial marriages. Therefore the argument of “traditional marriage” is invalid.
Gay marriage is protected by the U.S constitutions commitments to Liberty and Equality. “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.” (U.S constitution)
The LGBT community not only faces political issues but many other challenges as well. For example there is not sexual education for homosexuals, therefore they can lack the knowledge needed to properly take care of themselves.
They also face discriminatory issues everyday. They may be faced with businesses that deny them services based on their sexual preferences. They can also get strange looks and questions from people, which is very offensive. Because of the issue of discrimination LGBT individuals also have to worry about violence and safety. “Between June and December of 2014, at least 12 transgender women of color were killed in brutal incidents that police are investigating as hate crimes.”
