ROTARY CLUB OF ST. CROIX MID-ISLE
PROPOSED GLOBAL GRANT
The island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands has a population of approx. 51,000 people. The island’s only hospital, the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital, is the only medical facility serving the population. As a community service hospital, it must accommodate all comers, whether they have the ability to pay for the services received or not. Approximately 20% of its patients fall into the latter category (indigent). The hospital is fully accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and The Joint Commission (TJC).
The hospital has identified a need for eight (8) defibrillators, in order to strategically place them throughout the hospital. The current ones (7 ) have been used 146 times over the past year. The Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid Isle would like to provide five (5) defibrillators, based on our current resources. These would be placed in the Emergency Room, Fast Track, Hemodialysis, ICU and the Endoscopy units. The cost of these units delivered in St. Croix is $30,850.

It is Sustainable in that the hospital maintenance staff do monthly checks on the equipment, and do preventative maintenance annually. Additionally, the seller’s technicians, based in Puerto Rico, are available for assistance if required, and are 30 minutes flight time away.
Please join us in this Global Grant to satisfy the much needed equipment for this Community Service Hospital.
