When most people first meet Laura Baker, they see someone who is energetic and passionate about helping others. While it is true that she loves what she does and definitely has a heart for helping others she has also had many other past occupations that were very interesting to me. Mrs. Baker has been both a strategic planner and personal trainer most of her life. She loves using fitness as a platform to give back to her community. I actually first met her when she worked with my mom at the gym. She currently trains and teaches classes at Any Time Fitness, Cherokee Parks and Recreation Center, and Bridgemill Gym. She was a gymnast during college which made her decide to start teaching others. She currently teaches gymnastics and swimming and enjoys what she does. Mrs. Baker’s father was a major influence on her growing up, as he was also a strategic planner and an inspiration for her. “Without my father, I might not be where I am right now”, says Baker. She has two daughters, a physical therapist and an accountant, that inspire her every day. She has also been a senior project facilitator in the past, and she loves to see teenagers accomplish things they never thought possible. She has a love for building relationships with kids and teenagers and helping them with their self-esteem.
In 1993, Mrs. Baker became a small business owner of World of Gymnastics. Throughout this time, she was able to form relationships with many people in her community. She met some people that formed a major impact on her life, including Lindsay Simmons. She taught gymnastics classes, cheer, and even formed a boot camp. Although she says that owning the business was a good experience for her, she sold it in 2010 after feeling drained by the everyday processes of owning a small business. The process of dealing with many parents seemed overwhelming and too much to handle at the time and she had been very unhappy. Mrs. Baker believed that she had a calling for helping underprivileged children. She then started her journey of helping others with every chance she gets. She is constantly forming events, participating in races, and raising awareness for important things in our community. She has worked with many different companies continuing her profession as a strategic planner and personal trainer. She has been known to be extremely talented at forming events and setting them up, so many people come to her. She is also involved in so much around Woodstock and Canton, that she knows more people then we could imagine. She has gone out of her way to volunteer for many organizations, including the Cherokee County Fire Station. Mrs. Baker is very thankful for her decision to sell World of Gymnastics and is thankful to work with other people with servant hearts. She is extremely passionate in everything that she does and always knows how to handle a situation.
