My name is Brenda Ramirez, I am 19 years old. I am currently working as a server at a Mexican Restaurant. I chose the career in writing and publishing as my senior project because think it’s an interesting field. Especially since you are able to express your feelings and thoughts in to your writing. One of my goals is to write and sell children books, and entertain them with my stories, as well as to educate them with the meanings the stories have behind them.
In my research paper, I researched how stereotypes were portrayed in children’s books. Meaning how controversial topics were interpreted in books, such as gender roles. In many books men were portrayed with characteristics that women didn’t have. I learned that several authors now try to show children that you do not always have to follow society’s expectations for people or anything, and that it is okay to be and think different.
For my product, I wrote a 20-page children’s book with illustrations about a dog, in particular a certain breed, a pit-bull. This book relates to my research paper in many ways because it has to do with a stereotype. The book breaks the stereotype, teaches an important moral, and encourages looking past the stereotype. In the process of writing this project , I had to spend a lot of time trying to put together in a computer . My biggest obstacle was the process in general as well as the amount of money I had to put in. I worked hard not just trying to make it neat, but eye catching and attention grabbing especially for an audience of kids. My own dog, who is a pit-bull, inspired the book.
Stereotypes relate to writing because you can express your thoughts writing, grabbing a reader’s attention and changing their perspective towards things. I learned to express my feelings into writing and to view things from opposite sides. I will continue to pursue my career as a writer and publisher, even though it can be challenging.
This project was a bit difficult at first because it was bit expensive, it was one of the reason I got a job, to pay for this project. I wanted to pay this from my hard work, and not ask my parents for help. I spent a lot on the supplies, such as a sketch pad and art colored pencils. These items had to be a certain type or else the illustrations were not going to show up well. Overall the project was fun to make, a bit stressful at times, but I got everything accomplished. Thank you for taking your time to read this, and I hope you like my project.
