Letter to the Judges
You never get a second chance to make a great first impression!
Your Docs.com Collection will begin with a Letter to the Judges for introducing your Project and Presentation. Use the full-block letter template and double space between sections, single space within text. Remember the only abbreviations that you can use are for the person’s title. You will use the following format in preparing this business formatted letter.
Your Letter to the Judges introduces you in your own words. It will allow the Judges to see you as a whole person beyond the Senior Project. This should be your best writing, carefully edited, and in correct business form. Keep the tone honest, yet positive.
My name is Brandon Hopper. I have grown up with four brothers and we have all played sports competitively since we were physically able. I fell in love with football at a very young age and through that have learned how to weight lift and condition my body to gain an advantage in the sport I love. The goal of my senior project was to see how far I could push my body athletically, physically, and mentally. I decided to compete in the orange theory sponsored Dri-tri event. This event consists of a 2000-meter row, 300 body weight reps, and finishes off with a 5k.
The topic I choose to write about was the effect of weight training and conditioning on children under the age of 15. What I found was that most of the information people think is correct about this subject is mostly misconceptions. Most people believe that beginning to lift weights too earl will mess with growth plates and could possibly stunt the rowing process of young children. This is a huge misconception and there has never actually been a medically recorded case of damaged growth plates due directly to lifting weights. The main problem that most young children face in improper form, too much weight, and lack of supervision. I found that with the right supervision and lessons on how to perform the exercise properly, working out at a young age is perfectly healthy and can give children a major edge in competitive sports.
My product was completing the dri-tri and this relates to my research paper because it shows the benefits of conditioning your body in the right way and the advantages of a healthy life style at a young age. The major obstacle for my product was expenses. It took me a long time to find the right gym that was willing to give a deal since I would only be using the gym for my senior project. I also had to change my own life style to be able to complete my product. Some of my more unhealthy habits of eating at fast food joints, and being general lazy had to go. I began eating lean chicken and rice as my main meal and this helped tremendously with my efforts and I saw major improvements in my progress.
There are many careers that stem from athletic goals. Personal training, sports medicine, and coaching are simply a few to name. Understanding and researching how younger kids would react to weightlifting would help with training younger children in any sport. I gained insight on myself as well, I learned that the body can do much more than the mind in you dig deep enough. I learned that I am a determined to achieve my goals at all costs. I may pursue the field of athletic training or maybe sports medicine.
My experience with the senior project has been mostly positive. I gained a healthier life style and learned more about myself than I expected. This has definitely given me insight to my future and how I want to live my life. I appreciate your time and evaluation of my project and thank you for being here.
