Tourist Potencial of a real site: Tinamastes
Jose Campos A91252 / Randy López A93429
Tourism in Costa Rica is a new way to development and currently work activities in rural areas are potentially attractive for tourism. For this reason this project aims to take advantage of the various resources Tinamastes has. This Project pretends to use sostenible tourism as a engine of development.
In Tinamastes a familiar air is breathed by the friendly people, clean air for its natural wealth and working air because its economy revolves around agriculture. For these reasons this proposal includes to take advantage of the richness nature, agriculture , amazing waterfalls and its mystical nature trails for sustainable tourism.
It is the place where I was born and I want to develop rural tourism in my community, I really love the place and the potential of this community is perfect to develop a touristic proposal. The main object is generate the protection of water resources like rivers and waterfalls of great beauty.
The other reason to choice this location for the investigation is thaht few months ago we did a short field trip and we found around 29 species of reptiles and amphibians; It is important to mention that in this place we can find a mystical and endemic species, as blackheaded bushmaster, It is easy to find species of mammals like raccoons, Tolomuco, and specially Puma.
In this research we use the literature review and field trips, we made eight field trips, we use GPS, camera, binoculars, field guides (birds, mammals, reptiles).
After collecting the information we classify and systematize. After this, we write the proposal.
Develop a proposal for sustainable tourism to Barú distric taking advantage of the natural resources and touristic attractions.
Create an inventory of tourist attractions in the area.
Create a list with the flora and fauna of tourist importance and conservation.
Rural community tourism offers the opportunity to freely experience the essence of country life and the most unspoiled natural landscapes with excellent hosts. It also provides the country folk the chance to demonstrate the activities, traditions and lifestyles of the local population.
The experiences of rural tourism develop from cooperatives or community associations that own private ecological reserves, or are close to areas of environmental and cultural interest. These communities offer new experiences that combine tourism services such as accommodation, tours and crafts, with the stunning landscapes and living culture of its location, including farming culture, indigenous or Afro-Caribbean cultures. This allows our guests to discover the real Costa Rica, to explore tropical paradises, benefit and share with communities that are involved in the conservation of natural resources, have fun and relax in a healthy and creative manner.
Statistics show that more than 6 percent of visitors to Costa Rica realize various activities of rural tourism. For their part, the country folk involved in Rural Community Tourism, thanks to the benefits they receive from this activity, are increasingly motivated to protect the environment and preserve their customs and traditions.
Costa Rica has invested more than 50 years in rural development, as well as the rural communities have struggled more than 500 years in order to defend their identity and claim the right to development and equity. All these years of efforts are capitalized today into new initiatives for the endogenous enhancement of the local economies.
Community Rural Tourism is one of the initiatives that, little by little, has represented an important means of development for those rural communities potentially capable of competing with other high quality attraction sites. The rural world is therefore kaleidoscopically unique as for assets, history, nature, talents, and hopes. This is the meaning of community rural tourism, an authentic tourist product impossible to imitate, an important tool for the development of the communities and the enhancement of the Costa Rican identity.
In 2003, the creation of the Alliance of Organizations for the Enhancement of Community Rural Tourism integrated an informal place concerning the coordination efforts with organizations showing a recognized experience in the field: COOPRENA, ACTUAR, and Mesa Nacional Campesina supported by the Program of Small Donations of GEF, PNUD, and ACEPESA.
The goal of this Alliance has been to enhance Community Rural Tourism (TRC) as one of the main tourist activities at a national level and to consolidate it as a tool to generate sustainable development with equity and a high participation of local investment.
After having clear concepts of rural tourism, we present a SWOT analysis that we made.
Lots of natural resources, flora and fauna.
At least 30 waterfalls in the district
Rural Community Tourism.
Association of tourism enterprises.
Lack of organization.
Lack of tourism promotion.
Tourism is not the main economic. activity
Create a Asosiación (values, mission, vision).
Select 3 proposals for tourism products (obervación bird, organic fair, walks).

The Nauyaca Waterfalls are located in a canyon approximately eight meters wide.
One of the falls is forty-five meters high in free fall and the other, twenty meters high with a tiered fall, forming at the bottom a 1,000 square meter and six meter deep pool. There are also other smaller natural pools where visitors can seize the opportunity and enjoy the waters with their families or friends.
Nauyaca Waterfalls is the ideal place for nature and adventure lovers, where tourists can walk, swim, climb, jump, take photographs and spend a marvelous day in the warm waters of Rio Barucito, enjoying one of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica’s South Pacific.
These waterfalls are a reference point for adventure ecotourism, as they are recognized worldwide for their beauty and the excellent services offered.
Whether you seek high adventure soaked with pure adrenaline, or peaceful hiking through pristine rainforests, we have what you want. TREE OF LIFE is the only company offering tours to the top of the spectacular, 600 foot, Diamante Falls!
After an invigorating hike up the mountain, and a dip in one of the natural pools, you will enjoy lunch in an amazing open air cave nestled between twin waterfalls perched high above the Diamante.
We offer several tours to the top of the mountain, including hiking, both beginner and advanced rappelling, canyoning, cliff jumping and swimming in magnificent natural pools beneath the falls. We offer one day and overnight tours with accomidations in the cave.
Río Magnolia is a rainforest eco-lodge and coffee farm situated above the southern Pacific surf town of Dominical on a 280 acre
http://www.riomagnolia.com/pdf/RM.pdfproperty with great ocean, jungle and valley views. We are located between Manuel Antonio Park and the Osa Peninsula in the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor. The corridor of forests was developed by a conservation group called ASANA, friends of nature, to allow habitat for the movement of wildlife. We are home to many species of birds mammals, butterflies, insects and other interesting critters!
Our Costa Rica ecotourism project is located near the small rural towns of La Alfombra and San Cristobal where our employees live. Our commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment is reflected in a number of initiatives. Our electrical power is produced by a renewable energy source, the river Magnolia, which runs through our property. A 12 kW hydro-electric system provides all of the electricity to the Lodge and is distributed to the various buildings by buried cable, thus protecting the wildlife from harm. Out of our 110 hectare (280 acre) property, 90 hectares are primary and secondary rainforest, which we protect. The balance is pasture, where we have some cows and horses. We participate in a conservation program whereby its 84 hectares of natural forest are protected for the mitigation of greenhouse gases, the protection of the water resources and the preservation of the biodiversity and ecosystem. We have also planted various species of indigenous trees on 3 hectares of pasture as part of a reforestation program and continue to plant more.
The Waterfall Villas at Cascadas Farallas is committed to environmentally friendly practices and supports sustainable tourism. This means that we take care of the plants and animals of the property and foster indigenous life. It also means that any waste is ecologically recycled or securely contained. This requires our guests to practice water management and be aware of how they dispose of waste.
The unique architecture of the Waterfall Villas is Contemporary Tropical Bali Style - modeled after a Balinese family compound and temple structures suited for Tropical Living. When the Spanish arrived in Costa Rica, a few hundred years ago they clearly did not understand a tropical environment nor green architecture design - their buildings fit the Mediterranean climate, and a tendency to close off views to the nature around them. The Waterfall Villas lets the nature in while in total comfort! . http://www.waterfallvillas.com/about-us/eco-tourism
Tinamastes Richness: Flora and Fauna
It is important to consider what is the Flora and the Fauna of Tinamastes to justify the creation of new Tourism projects helping to the development of the zone.
Nowadays birdwatching is one of the most atractive activities in Tourism, for that reason this porpouse pretend to take advantage of birds that Tinamastes has. The idea is developing Birdwatching tours in different properties to offer the tourists a variety of places for enjoying this activity and at the same time creating some benefits for the entrepreneurs of the area.
It is important to know that Central Pacific coast is considered one of the best places to practice this kind of activities. For example, according to xxxxxx, Carara National Park is the house of the 48% of residents birds. That is really important because Tinamastes is located in the sorrounding of this Natural protected area, using taht kind of information we can show the importance and the richness of birds just for offering to visitors who want to visit Tinamastes.
In adition, the central and south pacific lowlands are benefited with so much diversity of mammals, such as Racoons, White nose coatis, Grey-headed tayra known as “Tolomuco” and considering also the presence of the Puma, Jaguar and other felines into this blessed tropical rain forest.
Reptiles and amphibians represents an important porcentage for biodiversity in this caracteristic zone. Only for Tinamastes sorrounding we can talk about more than one hundred seventy species representing the Herpetology. This group of animals is structured by more than fifty amphinbian species such as caecilians, salamanders, frogs and toads and the reptiles are represented by one hundred species aproximately. (Barrio-Amorrós, 2016)
Knowing the importance represented by this group, it results relevant for us talking about an endemic and destacable viper snake known as Black-headed bushmaster. This viper is a mystical snake but unfortunately is considered an endangered species. One of the alternatives that we want to give is combining tourism and conservation projects, because it could be an excellent way to protect the habitat of this kind of species that are sufering the consecuences of the human acts and also through this project we can also
White nose coatis
Masked tree frog
Red-eyes tree frog
Glass hour frog
Granular poison frog
Emerald glass frog
Panamanian Dwarf Boa
Green basilisk lizard
Berthold's Bush Anole
Tropical nigth lizard
make turists to be more awared of the issues that human has been caused to the nature and at the same time encourage the local people to be part of this project.
Important species for the tourism
As students of ecological tourism we recognize the importance of developing proposals for ecological tourism in the communities of Costa Rica. uctures suited for Tropical Living. When the Spanish arrived in Costa Rica, a few hundred years ago they clearly did not understand a tropical environment nor green architecture design - their buildings fit the Mediterranean climate, and a tendency to close off views to the nature around them.
