Hello, my name Autumn Bible. I am a senior at Cherokee High School. I am a fastpitch softball player. I started on varsity all four years, and received a softball scholarship to Reinhardt University. My goals are to become the best player I can possibly be. To be an All-American in college, and graduate with honors. Then to move on and become a coach. I want to be able to share my knowledge, and to also help teach kids and help them grow into young adults. So I decided to coach a young softball team for my senior project.
My topic for my research paper was how sports positively influences adolescents. I learned that sports have a big impact on kids lives. It really helps them grow as a person. It also teaches them life lessons and leadership skills. Without sports kids would not be as willing to work along well with others, because they haven’t experienced team work. It really shows how much sports have even changed my life. Without it I would not be where I am today. Sports really does have a huge impact.
For my product I put together live video of the team working on their skills, and game footage. It will be able to show their growth over the months and also how their attitudes have changed. Working with eleven and twelve year olds is not always easy. I had to earn their respect first. It was a challenge for me to do that because they did not see me as an adult figure at first. I was able to earn it, and they came to respect me and took in all my advice and constructive criticism I gave them to help them grow.
Going further into the coaching field I learned that it is definitely something I would want to do. Being able to see firsthand how a simple game of softball could change a little girls’ life is priceless to me. I learned that I also need to become a more assertive person. I need to be able to become better at scheduling and better at talking to parents when they are upset about a kids playing time. I will be able to fix those things and carry out my dream of becoming a coach.
Coaching is definitely a big role I believe. It is someone who a kid would be looking up to and coming to for advice. Also the person who helps mold them into the adults they are soon to be. Thank you Judges for your time.
