Activity: We talked about what we could do for the project and formulated a solid idea, we then worked on the fundamentals of tattooing and what strokes, brushes and what needles do what on the skin.
Commentary: I learned about what needles do for different effects for tattooing

Activity: We started to work on the drawing aspect of tattooing and what is possible and not possible in the medium of tattooing and began working on the types of art that is the easiest to work with.
Commentary: I learned about what is possible in tattooing

Activity: Work on contrast and more outlining
Commentary: Mr. Hulsey and I began with discussing my recent work on flowers and skulls and proceeded to apply them to fake skin and understand how to correctly match and contrast the tattoo

Date, Time, & Location: February, 17th Villa Rica Ink Tattoo Shop.
Activity: Shadowed while mentor tattooed and explained what he was doing and why he was doing it to give the tattoo different looks. I took notes on how to do the detail and line work he was showing me.
Commentary: I reviewed the techniques, Mr. Hulsey answered all my questions and provided additional instruction on how to apply the different techniques.

Date, Time, & Location: February 18th Villa Rica Ink Tattoo Shop.
Activity: We worked with the tattoo machines. He talked to me about what every part does and how it’s important. He then took one completely apart and told me to figure out how to put it back together and make it run. After that was done we took 6 machines and I was told to make a customized machine from the parts of others.
Commentary: I worked for hours creating a customized machine from the parts. The outcome was that I was successful in creating a machine. Mr. Hulsey looked at my machine and gave me feedback. He told me that I had successfully completed the project.

Date, Time, & Location: February 19&20
Activity: I spent the 19th and 20th tattooing grapefruits and working on the fundamental aspects we talked about before. I also was managing the front desk of the shop. Taking money, handling and processing paperwork and setting appointments
Commentary: I was successful in handling all aspects of the front office. This was a great experience in learning all the aspects of the tattooing business. Mr. Hulsey was very pleased with my performance and everything that I had learned. This was a great experience. It has given me a clear knowledge of the dedication and hard work that it takes to be a successful tattoo artist. The tattoo images that I created on the grapefruits were very good. Mr. Hulsey was pleased with my tattooing.
